I wanted to make robes and ribbons for my giant robots, and looked allover the youtubes for some tutorials that could work. Found some. Then I saw this suggested, slapped my forehead because I forgot I was already subbed here, and found this video. This is perfect and ideal for what I am going to do. Thanks Mel. You remain a staple in my hobby mind.

Absolutely BRILLIANT!!! I've been wanting to do barrels, crates, ammo cans, etc... draped in canvas but didn't want to use paper towels & was waiting for a vialbe alternative. Thank you for the great tip.

Excellent tutorial. I always liked using paper type materials to make bedrolls and tarps rather than sculpting resins. This is my tool kit from now on. Loved the bit about teddy bears.

Great tip using the baby wipes. I happen to have all types of scrap cloth around the house so I use that instead of the wipe (natural cotton cloth) because it is thinner and easier to get the folds in for doorways and such. I can also pleat it.
I have some course weave cotton around here somewhere from one of my ex-wife's projects that I have used for tents and tarps but I will definitely give the baby wipes a try.

Terrific work @TheTerrainTutor. Looks fantastic in your scale. I model in N Scale RailRoad.
Baby wipes didn't give me the detail I needed for N, no for paper towel too. So taking a chance I tried Kleenex. Wow I got details, wrinkles and folds like crazy. It's quite a challenge and you
need a ton of patience. N Scalers give it a try. I folded a Kleenex in half doubling the thickness. Soaked it in 50/50 white glue and draped it over my form. Let it dry completely and ... success!!!

Watch a couple of your videos. Until a week or so ago, never though of using foam board to make a building. Looking at building several zombie dioramas in 1/35th scale and buying modeling buildings can not only be expensive, but you're also limited to what's available. And looking forward to using baby wipes instead of paper towels/toilet paper.Thank you for the videos.

I've used rice paper (the Chinese use it to write on it) with a similar treatment to make banners (like in medieval battle banners).
You paint the piece of paper, then add the PVA with a brush and then you stretch it and bend it.

For your base coat, if your canvases are going to be the same color, just add it to your watered down PVA. It will add a little bit of strength, and you don't have to worry about wetting it with your base coat.

This is fantastic! There's always a pack of these knocking about at home (kids don't get any less messy in my experience even at 7 - always seem keen on finding the stickiest/messiest substances known to man!)
Could they also be used for things like cloaks, flags and standards etc?

great tip- I used pure huggies those in asda cost 3 pounds for pack of 4 but have teddybears all over the place. great texture and kind of strong for wipes - but you can't do big surface with it, my daughter is using this and are great for her allergy so I am sort of bond with them but not recommend if you need it flat, you can hide teddy's in folds as I do

    • @TheTerrainTutor

Awesome vid good sir! Im building a Chemical/ oil refinery terrain board and was wondering if you could do a tutorial on crates and barrels?, lol iv got a bunch of pallets made up but i dont have anything to put on them and after watching this tutorial i thought it would be epic to make tarps to lay over the barrels so that it gives the effect of supplies being stored outside the facilitys (kind of a shipping yard if you will), iv tried making both barrels and crates before but they never really turn out right lol, Thanks again for the tutorial good sir, Cheers!
