I just played a pentatonic sca-ale :) la la la. And then I played a root chord and it sounded almost cool 😎. Practice practice and then a bit more practice. Thanks Tom! 🙂
I like this video it is a great exercise for learning this scale.I am using it to get faster at it. I'll never getto your level but i will try. 61 now but getting better from my learning the chords in my younger years and how to transition. I just don't know all the names of them in my head just where my fingers go as i learned from a book with pictures of where to put your fingers in the 70's but i love learning and am very pleased with my progress on my own and some help like this. Thank-you so much for sharing.I live in a small town in Newfoundland Canada & this stuff comes in handy for learning.
That's the first time I've ever understood that. So bloody simple, the bar chord comparison just made it click. Jesus, people beat and the bush when teaching this. I'm gonna start fucking about with it tomorrow. Thanks
Hi Tom, Do you have any video where we can see how to connect pentatonic/major/ minor scale over the fretboard?? Can we put them in a pattern and use them for soloing in different scales?
Yo Tom! I've been playing guitar for about 10 years now but I only play it casually. My problem is that I'm not improving because, first of all, I'm self taught, so I never went to or tried any formal guitar class. So you see, I'm kinda lost and don't know what to improve. Can you help me out?
Around 9:30, you say to use alternating picking. But you don't explain what that is. Is that where you first pick down on the string, and then pick the same string in the upward direction? Great lesson! Thanks for the help. I've done a lot of rhythm and folk strumming. I know lots of chords. I'm pretty comfortable with bar chords. Got lots of strums and even a few picking patterns, including Travis. But I don't lead pick at all! So this is just what I need. Thanks again!
Tom, i've just watched an old film, and on the credits i think i saw your name mention as the guitar player, would it be you. the film was Clover bend..
I dont know why i came across this channel so late. This is amazing channel for beginners and intermediate
Some of the best advice yet 5:13 "sing along with your notes" that WILL associate a tone to a string & fret. Thanks for that one Tom! !! !!!
Your channel is a gold mine. If I wanted to learn guitar from anyone, it would have to be a session player.
That was straight to the point (note) . A good way to teach , no fluffy stuff straight into the meat and potatoes.
Thanks Tom. I just started practicing this scale on the 5th fret. I now know the next step and see how useful learning this will be.
Thanks Tom, I will share this with a friend who I just introduced the Minor Pentatonic Scale.
You’re an excellent teacher. I appreciate you
Amen
Great advice to sing along. Thanks!
Please, share more videos! You're great!
Good lesson,very good lesson
Thank you Mark.
I will add this to my practice book, thank you Tom 👍

so true... I'm 65 and pretty much still beginning after too many false starts.
Really learning from this video. Light bulb going on, finally.
Great to hear Mark!

Yes, that's what that means. I should've been more clear. I said "up and down" in a previous take but this one I dropped into professor mode a bit.
Thank you so much for watching BTW.
I like your video lessons very much , does the middle root note always stay on the d string as you move up the fret board?
Yes. With that shape it does.
Thank you so much for watching BTW.
Do you have anything for beginners
I have a few things if you snoop around on my channel.

Haha. Yes that was me. A long time ago. I didn’t know I had a credit. Thanks!
I disagree. Pentatonics should come after learning basic licks.
