  • We had a quick work trip to Orlando in between our time of SD and going to Michigan to visit family so we decided to take the camper so that we could go to Disney for a couple of days. By the way, in case you didn't know this is a very warm thing to do and I don't really recommend it during the summer... but sometimes you're just in the right place at the right time. We only had a couple of weeks notice and so we didn't really have a lot of time to prepare. I started looking on Campendium which is my go-to if I'm just trying to find a campground near an area of interest. I ran across a couple of campgrounds with availability in the area and while SunOutdoors Championsgate is a little more of an RV park-type place which we usually avoid we gave it a shot. There was some construction on the road in front of the campground, but it wasn't horrible. I will say when you first pull into the park it's very confusing where you are supposed to park to check in at the office. I feel the sign tells you to stop before the office, but then you feel like you are going to possibly block traffic, especially if another rig comes in at the same time. However, there isn't really anywhere else to pull over either. We pulled up beside the office.
General Information: This park is actually in Davenport Florida which is on the southern aspect of the Orlando area. It took us about 20 minutes to get to the Disney properties from here as long as traffic was ok. The park does split their sites into standard and premium sites. One thing to keep in mind is that you can't book a specific site without paying a site lock fee. The cost of our site was around $50/night which included a $10 resort fee.

We have never camped where there were just shells. Also, we have found that most Florida campgrounds are really tight. Nice review. Lynn and Danny

I did stay at Fort Wilderness for 3 nights. To me, it was worth the money with how nice the sites were and the amenities that come along with staying on property. I would not stay there all the time because of the price so maybe the other half of a week at Thousand Trails in Clermont. Nice job.
