Just bought an older used drz and check the oil only to see that it was empty. And I had the appropriate reaction like you said pure panic. So thank you for your video help a lot.😅
Man thank you so much for this video just the other day I checked my oil and thought it was empty now finding out the bike has to be warm first your a life saver man 👍🏽we appreciate your content
I literally just rode to Halfords (motor store) to buy oil for my new (to me) DRZ. Got home and checked it again and realised it now reads much higher. Thanks for conformation.
Did my first oil change on a used drz I got. Went to check the oil a few days after before a big ride and saw the dip stick bone dry. Freaked out and your video was the first I found. Thanks so much for posting this
Having an 08 with 41k KMs on the original, never opened engine I'm more than familiar with checking my oil, if I don't go hard on the bike It sips like 0.4L every 1500KMs so I just top it off at that mark and than ride another 1500KMs and do a full oil change, done it this way since I got it and it had 29K KMs on the clock and it runs good. IMO the best service interval is oil+filter every 2000KMs, with Motul 7100 Oil the shifting get's stiffer after around 1000Kms but 3000KMs is the sweetspot. Also, overfilling the bike a little won't do no harm since oil is stored in the tank, I always go a little generous on oil quantity with mine since it likes to take a sip of it every now and then.
Heart attack will be a good definition of what i fell now i know better it need to be warm up first like any lady thank you very much for the important information much appreciated
Thank you i learn hot to ride 3 weaks a go for my first time with a youtube video got my self a 2023 drz hop on it and start riding and this little things help me a lot, and coolant got me scared to 😂
I have a 2023 drz400sm. Same Delkevic exhaust, baffle out people didnt want to ride with me it was so loud. Put the baffle back in and its still loud af. sounds good af but other people hate it lol
I ve read somewhere that You need to warm up the engine for 3 min and that wait another 3 min and then check the oil level. How do You think ? Thanks for the video.
Yep, when I changed my oil, the first time, I waited for a few hours and checked it again. It was LOW! I poured in a little and got a full reading. Waited for the next day and (without warming it up) checked again and (haha, you see where this is going) it was LOW, again! I looked for leak's.... Then I re-read the manual... 😆. I didn't put too much in, but I had it FULL! 😅
I overfilled it once and had to drain some out, which was a bitch. I saved that excess oil to use for future top offs in case it was burning some. It's been 8 years since then and it's still sitting in the bottle (definitely old now and wouldn't use it anyway), but I laugh because it never needed any of it. My bike burns very little oil even after 14 years. The DRZ is among the greatest motors ever made.
@@linksgarage1985 awesome 👍 I'll get an update video soon! Just finished doing a valve job, coolant flush, oil change, spark plug, full carb rebuild, put it all back together and fired right up. Running absolutely perfect right now. Love that machine!
Maybe my experience will help someone... I have a new DRZ400s. I read the manual very carefully and even created my own step-by-step procedure for changing my oil. When checking my oil, it looked like I OVER-filled it. I know that's not good, so I tried to drain the oil from the frame. I let some drip out and it hardly changed at all. So I then let a lot out and I let too much out. Now I have to order more oil, lol. Frustrating. and every time I checked my oil, I warmed up my bike for 3 minutes and then waited 3 minutes. I must have checked my oil 10 times and I still didn't get it right. My solution will be to add just a little bit at a time and check - patience!
If you clean the oil filter (stainless steel here) and get excess oil out of the oil filter compartment AND clean the strainer like I do every oil change (requiring you to drop the oil hose on the bottom of the frame oil tank - and losing the oil in that hose) - THEN the DR-Z will take almost exactly 2 quarts. And - just for the record, 2 quarts is equal to 1892 mL. The shop manual calls for 1800 mL on an oil and filter change Safe bet if you don't mess with the strainer is to put in 1700 mL or 1.75 qts., check the dip stick, and top it up - of course.
Lol my DRZ used to drink oil - I absolutely loved that bike. Would still have it if the police didnt steal it... a sad story. Happy ending I got a 701 now..but I wish I still had that DRZ, I would have kept her.
@@linksgarage1985 It was in a foreign country.. a little crazy and culminated in a 12 day stay in a concrete box. I would give the experience 1 out of 5 stars - would not recommend.

Smell it. You’ll smell fuel. You can feel it also. It’ll be watery. And if you’re vice grip garage, you can taste it. That’ll do the trick.
