@@v3n0mm3n0 Yes, I know. I'm just thinking about why they haven't built that stuff into amps decades ago. Probably because of the imperfections of all equipment, recording etc.
4m10s. I had a wonderful sound person cut the earth to the desk before we got to the gig. I stepped up to the mic with my tele in hand and got 240v AC straight in the gob. When I stood back up(thankfully) I even impressed myself with the variety of invective that I directed towards the desk at the back. The caretaker shut the power off and we cancelled the gig. I was shaking too much to play or sing, had ringing in my ears and a baaad headache for the rest of the day.
Sounds like a good idea, my old house is hum plus plus. Glad it’s not a ground lift on AC, don’t need to be electrocuted more than I already am. Thanks Andy!

I'm in a 1950s built apartment with old wiring. On a good day, my amps- all practice ones- don't hum on their own. On a bad day, everythnig you try to negate it only screws up any tone I'm trying to get. This Humno or even the HUm Exterminator is a problem solver.
Having 50+ years in electronics and music I must say that in that little package there's no room for a well dimensioned line filter, and, a line filter, on the other side, is designed to reject hi (RF) frequencies on both ways. So, I only can imagine that this black box is only a resistor in series of both ground pins, with a value large enough to minimize the loop ground current, but not too large so there's still a good grounding for AC dangerous leaks.
Yup I remember growing up in the 70s and hearing stories of Guitarists getting shocked or even killed when their strings became "live". It made me wary of electric guitars and amps for a while.
My dad (electrical engineer) explained it to me at the time and he drew some circuit diagrams to show which amp designs could potentially go "live" and those which couldn't. Never ever cut your EARTHING! Anything with a metal case or chassis should be earthed. I also remember him saying double insulation and no earthing was a very bad idea and I still think it is even though a lot of gadgets are double insulated instead of being earthed these days.
It's always worth putting a resistor between your Earth wire and your strings on your guitar
@BeesWaxMinder I would never do that and you shouldn't have too. If your guitar is set up and wired right it shouldn't need it. An earth path should be direct without interruption. You do understand what a resistor does?
@@wideyxyz2271 yes BUT it is a fairly well-known mod if you put a low Power element so that when it's subjected to the electrical force enough to cause bodily harm it will blow/break & will act like a fuse in that respect
Had a tube amp from a stereo when I was 16. Sometimes the strings were hot. I would turn it on and ask somebody to hand me my guitar. If they didn't yell I knew I was fine.

hey man great! i have a big noise problem mostly figured out with 2 noisegates but this thing seems interesting. Does work wirth only one amp too? Maybe a dumb question but i need to know
I just purchased a radial twin city aby switcher to switch between my twin reverb, and my marshall jvm410c. As soon as I plugged it 8n, the marshall was screeching with a horrible noise which I would assume to be ground hum. Would the humno fix this problem? Thanks so much
It's just an very expensive mains filter. You'll get a the same functionality for less then 10 bucks. There are also replacements for ICE mains sockets. So one could retrofit the amp with it.
So, no snake oil but way too expensive.

Yes! I have the same issue but it’s only at certain places.. it’s driving me nuts.
Try the Morley Hum Eliminator after you first have a professional work on your guitar for ground issues.

My amp buzzes like this with only a (humbucker) guitar and speaker cab attached. I've tried the Ebtech HumX eliminator and it didn't make any difference. I see Morley has a rebranded version of that unit too (called the Morley Hum Exterminator). I'm curious what the difference is between that $79 Ground Hum Filter VS. their $105 HumNo ground loop filter.

I'm wondering if what I have in my studio at home is ground hum, the sound is similar but not exactly? Let me attempt to explain:
I have a powerline to have internet between the rest of the house and my studio.
I'm running everything (or almost everything) through a multi plug socket: computer, mixing table, Helix pedalboard, studio monitors to that powerline's IN so they all get power.
I hear a hum at times and it seems to come from the mixing table from the testing I've been doing.
Would the Hum-no help? because I am dobuting it does since everything in the room is coming from theoretically the same phase, but if anyone knows any better please do let me know

A DI box offers a ground lift.

So would you need one for each mains electric ring? Say each amp is on one ring and pedalboard on a third would you need two in order to isoltate two of the thring rings? Then the third ring is isolated byproxy.

All you need is one Humno in your set up to break the loop. That said, the Bass player (or 2nd guitar player, etc) will need one of their own to solve the problem in their respective set up.
Bottom line is that each player will need their own, but only one per instrument set-up.

Ought to be worth mentioning that this isn't really a smart purchase for studios, since you can grab a full power conditioner for around the same price. Definitely valuable for situations where you're leaving the house though - gigs, rehearsals etc.
It’s not though as power conditioners do not filter out ground hum.
will this get rid of hiss though? I dont have a hum with my Marshal DSL but when using the Ultra Gain channel I get hiss when the gain is about half way. Is this electrical or should I just live with it?

I get a hum while trying to use a Focusrite USB interface into my computer. What am I doing wrong. Both are on the same circuit.
Dude, exactly the same. I have tried literally everything. The only way I can get a bearable signal is to have the gain at 0... all appliances turned off and line level not inst level. Then boost the sound as much as possible in software before its horrible again
My issue is my power cable is hard wired into my tube amp so I can't add it. i wish they made a EU version Hum Extractor as I would buy it in a minute.
I had this problem with fender deluxe reverb so i cut the plug off and added one of these

It only removes ground hum. You’d maybe be best off pairing this with a power conditioner

that’s a noise suppressor/noise gate job- the humno just works for the ground loops from mains, although getting a power supply which is isolated instead of a daisy chain etc. should also help! :)
@@tobyzxcdI couldn't recommend that enough...it's not fun or cool like a new pedal, but isolated power supplies are money very well spent
The keyboard player/rhythm guitarist in my old band could really have done with one of these devices as he had major interference problems from his keyboards after buying a guitar with P90 pickups. It was so bad he ended up replacing the pickup with a P90 sized humbucker.
Then you need to rewatch this video. This device cannot get rid of noise/hum/buzz that is picked up by the guitar pickups. That’s a different type of noise than the ground loop noise that this device fixes. He makes that clear in the video. You must have missed that part.
I appreciate you didn't plug your amps into the same power strip like Collin of CSGuitar did.... and claim he had a ground loop afterwards. I'm not an electrician but from the research I've done reading people who are, what Collin did was a ...miracle. I just asked him how he managed that ..... but I have a hunch he will never answer.
Way back when, when I was a mere child in the bass playing woods, I got shocked so badly on a live mic that I'm still afraid of electricity almost 40 years later. Do not recommend. Please miss this experience....don't be cutting prongs off plugs...they're there for a reason.
The same happened to me more than once in my teenage rehearsal room. I don't know happened but we using old borrowed gear. Tingly Lips!

Theres no reason it should be more than 30 squid/euros/whatever - 140 is just taking the micky.
@@mordokchthen produce a competitor and sell it for less. Products aren't priced at what they're "worth" to you, but at what (enough) people are willing to pay. For gigging/recording musos, 140e for hum elimination is worth it because there are few other options, until your cheaper unit hits the market.
