the warhammer website is absolutely horrendous, even when you search for legion specific, half of the time its buried under 100 non specific units, just to be sold out when you get to it
I also really really love the random bug where after you search something, if you search again you are only allowed to type the previous search term's length minus a character, and if you go over that limit, you lose another character, and this repeats until the search bar is completely unusable
not to mention when something goes out of stock it plummets to the bottom of the list half the time. Want some legion specific terminators? Try scrolling down 4 pages to find they are out of stock. You need a masters degree to sift through the puzzle that is that website
@@egnaroelprup Try to buy something, I remember I had something in my basket thinking I would pick it when I had the money and the time (chance would be a fine thing), anyway they delist thing entirely and force you to restock you your basket manually, instead of updating your basket automatically. Frustrating.
Interesting view on the old world.
Since launch, 3 factions launched, taking it to 5 in under a year.
2 rounds of meaningful FAQs.
Empire confirmed for early for 2025 with High elf soon after. Leaving 2 core factions left for release.
Outside of the two main games, it is probably the most supported in 2024
55:50 From GW warhammer community the top selling armies this year are 1.) Chaos warriors 2.) Dwarfs 3.) Bretonnia 4.) Tomb Kings 5.) Orcs and goblins. So in theory their 2 most successful periods were recently with chaos warriors and the dwarfs right behind them.
The solar aux basic troop kit has parts to make a medic guy, but it’s not advertised at all
You're kidding me, right
@ yeah, so there’s a bit which looks like the surgeon’s needle gun
And the bare head is a guy with a mask and a collar
It being near to the gun on the sprue and the look makes me think it’s meant to be your surgeon’s head
I just googled the instructions and
They show the two being paired
And it calls the gun a needle pistol
@theylivewesleep.5139 a "needle pistol" in warhammer is NOT a medical device lol
@@cthuludreams1 yeah, I checked and apparently solar aux sergeants have had them as an option for some time now
Still, one of the resin surgeons carries one
I would definitely say Bloodbowl is in a good place, last year 2300 people turned up in Spain for the Bloodbowl World Cup. There is a thriving sceene around the game a lot of it outside of GWs arena with a healthy range of miniature producers for the game both 3D printer STLs and physical minis. GW abandoned our game and various people filled the gap they left so unlike other systems we are very accepting of non GW stuff. GW only runs a tiny fraction of events where their miniatures are required which has given rise to a huge diversity in themes and styles for all teams while also having the easily accessible GW miniatures too for new people and people who prefer their stuff.
I just got back from a weekend in Florida where 200 of us battled for the Chaos Cup. Had a great time.
Ive been collecting and playing since the 2001, GW prices are so obnoxious that it feels like im working with my childhood budget. I mostly buy 2nd hand or via part works magazine now. No longer play because 10th ed is terrible. Bolt Action is now my main game system, good rules, reasonably priced models and the sculpts for the new kits are really good
29:00 nah, you're not an idiot. The website is dumb.
1:15:30 Tactical Command Squad allows you to build a Marshal for free, and is (at least I think) intended as a dual kit for Tactical Command Squad and HQ Command Squad.
Fun Fact: Games Workshop hasn't updated their website framework, back end, front end or layout for 15 years, the longest period the site has gone without an overhaul. They have been using the same set up since 2009 and have overtaxed it. The reason it's a mess now is because GW is trying to make a site do stuff which was never designed for what they're trying to do. All while GW's executives refuse to sign off on an updated system because it will mean they will have to replace all the online store computers in all the shops and upgrade their servers.
I bought an entire brand-new Bolt-Action Army for cheaper than 10 Space Marine Scouts. GW exists to point and laugh at, not to purchase anything from.
True.
For thr price of one small hero you can get a Lance of mechs in battletech
Hot Take: not every problem, but a large number of problems with GW currently are due to them killing Warhammer Fantasy for Age of Sigmar.
-they kill Fantasy, release AoS
-AoS sells, but they get complaints about dropping Fantasy
-Total War: Warhammer series sells like hotcakes
-GW sees viability of Fantasy range
-GW tries to develop new factions for release of the Old World
-oh ****, we don't have the design staff for TOW and AoS and 40k and Heresy and Warcry and Necromunda and...
-uh, just re-release models for factions with large plastic ranges, and start making metal models again, too
-oh no, now we're making too much for too many systems. We can't keep up our release schedule
-let's pause for four months.
I don't think the problems caused by the death of Fantasy and its replacement by AoS are talked about enough. Take the lead-up to AoS's announcement and launch as an example. It's often overlooked, but the development of AoS didn't just occur in a vacuum. 4-5 years (at minimum) prior to it's release in 2015, GW would have had to start moving resources toward AoS - resources likely reallocated from Fantasy. This escalating lack of investment compounds and intensifies many of the problems already present within Fantasy, leading to a self-fulfilling narrative of failing Fantasy sales.
It's my opinion that GW management nuked Fantasy due to their attitudes towards I causing a self-fulfilling prophecy. They thought it would fail, they wanted it to fail, so it failed. It's this same belief that had GW blindsided when games like Totalwar Warhammer and Vermintide showed an unequivocal interest in the setting by a wider - totally untapped - audience.
@@spnked9516 I think your timeframe for AoS 1's development is perhaps overly generous. AoS 1 came across like it had eighteen months, at best, of development.
@@Vidve Pretty sure AOS was so rushed that some of the start collecting boxes still had some models on square bases.
@@spnked9516 Allegedly Warhammer Fantasy was already having sales problems by 4th edition. The entire development of Age of Sigmar happened because Fantasy sold so badly for so long that it was threatening to drag the entire company down with it. And, whether that's self-inflicted or not (I'd err on the side of self-inflicted given Games Workshop's track record), the entire Total War fanbase nearly imploded over a 5 dollar DLC increase. That's not a reliable long-term audience for a very expensive tabletop game.
At best, if Games Workshop had kept Fantasy around they would have pushed back their problems by another year or two; but given that at one point in they were literally weeks away from bankruptcy it's far more likely that they'd have just folded completely.
I have a bunch of friends that now want to play anything Warhammer related after SM2. While that would have made me happy years ago, I genuinely have no desire after being in this hobby for years. I’ve tried to push them to things like Bolt Action or any other wargame that actually might be worth it in terms of price and enjoyment, hasn’t done much. Anyone have any advice of what I should do? It’s like I’m actively watching a car crash pileup.
You could try OnePageRules Grimdark Future. It's totally not 40k *wink*, but without all the rules churn tied to the business model. Your friends can spend stupid amounts of money on GW plastic, you can use whatever minis you like, and you all save money not buying books that will be worthless in 2 years.
Yeah, definitely check out opr grim dark future. The core game rules are free, the army books and army builder is also free. It's a great simple game for beginners too
You can always try to get them into the old 40k FFG TTRGs of that's their thing.
Get them to play mechwarrior 5 and then introduce them to battletech
I thought the STLs for Trench Crusade seemed a bit high, too. The beautiful thing is that they embrace third party models. The best part of the campaign for me is the accessory "sprues" that can be used to tie models from any number of different ranges together. Part of the hobby for me has become finding STLs that could be used for various games or factions.
They are insanely high for a couple of minis its around the price you would expect for the same models in resin to come to your door, totally nuts I didnt back it for that reason, rules are free so thats good, will use other models have similar style of minis just need some guys with guns to use for some minis.
I would like a video of you covering eldars change as you talked about in the video. Eldar dont really get much coverage when they should
HH is so frustrating. Didnt really need typhon / cerebus, resin despoiler set, all those IF n SoH characters, few of the consuls. But no plastic breachers / recon / javellin etc.
Not fixing tanks / dreads issues has just been poor
I'm OK with ToW being dead - I can buy the models I want now, play any edition I want, and stop having GW ruin it.
The arcane journals are very optional, especially since all the meta armies are basically all the grand armies which are in the main book.
The website is cooked. I go to 3rd party websites to check things now.
Legions Imperialis is the best game GW have released in the last 20 years! The pace and quantity of releases have been like a fire hose! Which is awesome. I’m buying it like I’m assuming it’s going to be canned in a year! Which won’t be a problem as I’ll have many multiples of everything by then!
The pace compared to Epic: Armageddon is glacial. But if you're happy, I'm happy for you!
Uncertainty is everything GW gives you these days. If I buy a unit you have to hope to play them before they killed ot of.
Dont stress Macca, we'll see how trench goes. Ps looking forward to this weekend bro. We'll have tp do a couple of episodes
1:38:41 That's why I taught my wife 40K when she first asked about wargaming, I fairly bluntly told her it wasn't my favourite game or in my opinion even a very good one, but it was the easiest in terms of availability and finding other players later who weren't me. At this stage 40K is popular because it is popular, it's less effort to start 40K than to start not40K so 40K becomes the default newbie game.
And for what little it's worth I think Mantic, long a byword for low quality knock-offs, is ten times the game creator. Firefight and Kings of War are both genuinely very good games, part of what frustrates me about the performative 'fuck GW' crowd is that Firefight is basically everything 40K could be if GW had the guts to shake it up, but no one plays it.
OnePageRules is still a solid contender for Warhammer. The two main issues holding OPR from superseding Warhammer is it's not a product you can go to a store and buy. It does not have a very good setting distinct from Warhammer. So long as its factions are "Battle Brothers" "Custodian Brothers" and "Battle Sisters" it will always be that knock off Warhammer clone.
people always give me shit in comments sections when I tell them that GW will be obsolete in 5-10 years. How someone can be so enamoured with a corporation is beyond me.
Indeed - K. Roundtree & His "Lucked-in *Cronies"*_ see you & I, The Paying Customer: as no more than Unwashed Drooling Plebs Who'll Buy Anything w/ The *-GW-* Warhammer Inc. _ Label on it.

Don't love the company but disagree. The IP combined with the quality of the plastic and the ease of purchasing will keep them in business. The main killer would be if they do something to kill the IP love like maybe female space marines. Despite gains resin printers are unaccessible for the common normy as the cleaning and place to use is harder.
@@Wcverhaagh the IP is large enough and with enough interest to continue to exist if GW were to die.
You're correct about ease of buying models, for a few years, until 3d printing becomes even easier
GW have peaked and their decline is now inevitable.
The business interests are now blatantly contrary to the customers and staff at this point - it's over.
@@Wcverhaaghthe IP has been used and abused so much since 5th ed and it really ramped up after 8th. If that stuff hasn’t killed it for casuals, then nothing will.
29:23 You're not an idiot. They recently changed that and it made the site even worse than it was before.
Love the idea of a revamped 1st. I keep finding myself leaning towards the old zone mortalis and mournival events. I think an outer circle house rules would be great.

Played 40k since super early 2nd until mid 9th when rules changed so fast i couldnt keep up.
Started hh 2.0 at release and mostly happy with it.
I only played a bit of 1.0 when it first came out. Only had one mate interested in it and it was costly back then with leather books and pure resin so we never did it properly.
I hated the destroyer table though lol
@Mac I'm looking forward to your port of heresy 1.0 to 2.0, I'm currently looking to do something similar with 40k 2nd and perhaps sixth edition. I feel getting back to basics would be better and tailoring things using USR as well as a few other things. Question, why do you think GW cannot add the skitarii/praetorians to both admech in 30k and 40k, did they just throw them out after Epic and forget about them? I really wish they'd add those units as it would give a bit more choice in line units.
There's a great set of 2nd edition datafaxes for modern units like the Contemptor - maybe you've seen it but if not lmk and I can hook you up
I just hope that when he does it, he doesn't change plasma to breaching

Macca, you are an arbiter of truth and justice. Thank you for your content
I really dislike the direction KT has gone personsllly.
Granted, some of the kits are great. I like NL upgrade; though lack of jump pack sucks.
But I hate how KT has become fixed squads, selling fixed 40k units under KT banner.
It’s no longer a “skirmish game” but a mini 40k. There is a difference
I am looking forward to getting hold of your v1.M Heresy Rules. 😂 I like Epic Armageddon, Warmaster, and BFG:R. Systems seem to do a lot better once GW drops them and the fanbase take them up. I'm finally getting into Heresy thanks to the arrival of the plastic Mech. I think the ZM rules are a good starting point. I'm hoping for plastic mk ii in the 3rd ed release. Not holding my breath for an upscaled mk iv. Resigned myself to the old box. At least they should fit ok with the FW models.
Keep up the great work! I always enjoy hearing your views. Like you, I'm pretty much disillusioned with GW after being treated pretty shoddily for the last 20 years. I just bought into the lore bigtime as a schoolboy, so here I am...
Checking up once in a while on the website makes me realize how dumb GW is honestly, not sure who is responsible for this overhaul, but it is as confusing and no logic. I remember there just being the game system, type of product, factions and specific army choices.
I am not sure how the company is doing financially but all of these nebulous release schedules seems incredibly mismanaged, certainly for a company that supposedly was on the brink of collapse a couple of times in the past decade.
Please do a critical review of trench crusade. I feel the game is being held in degrees way too high for what it is, which still isn’t a bad world/game but has its flaws certainly that I hear no content creators talk about. I feel way too many people see it as the game that owns the GW libs and is the killing blow to 40k and don’t spend any time reflecting on it.
I think Man o War (and Warmaster) might be more accessible now than when they were sold in GW stores...
100%
Was not expecting Garand Thumb style dad advice at the end of this vid.
Well I am an adult man, a teacher, an executive manager, an engineer, a scout leader and a retired military NCO, I should have SOME advice up my sleeve lol
If GW go from new kits to discontinued in less than 12 months for standard series miniatures, unless I'm buying the model FOR THE MODEL (like I did for big Nagash), I'd be skeptical about buying anything game-wise from them!
Yes the website is awful. No the TOW is not dead. 5 factions released in one year with rest coming next year. Tournament scene is thriving. Legacy factions not getting official releases and support is a bummer. Spot on about HH 2.0. HH 2.0 is garbage compared to 1.0.
Old world is dead but warhammer fantasy battles is alive and well. Plenty of 6th ed and 8th ed happening in the UK. There is a comfort in knowing that the company has almost zero impact on the health of your fave game. By killing warhammer they immortalised it 😍
Still playing 8th myself. Old world while it might be good was just unnecessary.
I agree, the GW website is truly terrible.
As far as the website goes it amazes me that there isnt a little bubble on the thumbnail of each model with the faction and game system so that you can tell at a glance what it belongs to. Even Space Marines, the poster boys of 40k, its not clear that the massive list of models which are all Ultramarines work for whatever chapter you want. It gets even more confusing when you want to buy a unit of Necrom Deathmarks, and you cant because the shop will only sell you a box of Immortals. Unless you read the fine print you wouldnt know that the Immortals box builds the other unit too.
The products that are constantly sold out online are insane. Like how do you run out of vombat patrol box sets? Those are supposed to be your intro sets to get new players into the game and you're out? How is that not your priority? Moreso you couldnt be bothered to throw in one of those cheap clear plastic rulers or two generic dice for free so that a new player can have everything they need right out of the box?
Sometimes it really feels like GW wants to fail as a company.
58:11 Empire is next and is getting put up for preorders mid January (according to their last live stream) then presumably there will be another couple months of nothing to not steal the thunder from 40k with their Dkok release and AoS with their Ogre release.
Can't believe Macca is a filthy clanner!
Correction, Ghost Bear is both filthy clan and weak inner sphere....
In my opinion heresy² is 40k lite
Only thing I really keep ttack of on GW is books and Old world. 40k just isn't for me anymore, HH 2.0 was a huge let down for me. AoS doesn't stimulate my list building autism like old 40k or old world. Been playing a lot of conquest by parabellum now though
Why was hh2.0 a letdown out of interest? My entire gaming group switched to it on release and we're having a great time.
@padanfain7466 horus heresy 2.0 was kind of a gate opening up to the premium HH community. Instead of pricey forgeworld resin cheap(er) GW plastic. Me and many others got the starter boxsets. Started our legions, (white scars in my case) only to realize the release for plastics was barely supported. No bikers, no assault marines, no breachers, beakies across the board. So it failed to railroad me and my group into the game. The really shitty rules didn't help either.
@@CyrodiilCome well...we have assault marines now at least, and the upcoming melee box at least solves the despoiler issue. Whilst I agree the plastic release schedule has been slow (which actually suits me just fine), the rules are the best version of warhammer I have ever played. I've had about 40-50 games, and they are nearly all close run affairs with gritty close cut finishes. The reactions are great at keeping you involved in your enemies turn. Sure, there are some very small issues with the rules, but overall it is a very fun game to play.
I haven't looked at kill team in years I don't know how it is done now, I remember when it came out it has point lists based on model plus gear and changed the game several times in how it works with different editions (the idea of it having like what 3 o4 editions in 5 or so years is just insane and a joke anyway) seems like it is all pre set characters meanwhile just look at OPR has their own kill team game snd and it is amazing, customisation friendly, rules there can add extra stuff to it snd and drop storylines in no problem. I mean it works better for customers but GW also hates it's customers
The difference between Mantic and GW is so stark. They actively promote the upcoming releases with expected release dates.
They are so consumer driven.
No cyclical rules refreshes.
Kings of War rules are really good. Game plays fast and is extremely tactical. Unit positioning, flank, and rear attacks are everything.
No one should be playing GW games.
52:12 in defense of the multimillion dollar company they put out a free index on their website that has all the stat lines and special lores for each faction. So the arcane journals are just for the lore nerds such as I.
53:58 in less than 1 year old world has released rules, complete armies, and expansions for 5 armies. The released rules for all factions in the game, the "legacy ones" such as dark elves and chaos dwarfs are free pdfs. Horus heresy has put out (generously) 2 complete factions. (Traitor and loyalist marines) Put out I think 2 free pdfs for daemons and militia. Then 3 campaign books, with recycled missions in what like 3 years? Feels like you're being a bit biased here lmao.
I just hope Old World lasts long enough for Glade Guard to return.
thanks for your clearv words to 40k,
people dont want to hear that.
but look at primaris stuff and tell me that looks good.
I'm still mad airnautica got cut off right when I got into it
Talking about “getting rid of new things”
I’m waiting for GW to run out of Primaris ideas for units and then, suddenly redo the whole faction
1:29:49 yeah; they’d have much more respect from me if they were transparent on sooooo many decisions.
I feel like people don't inherently get into wh40k just to play games. i love the universe, the lore, etc. started collecting my first models about 4 years ago. didn't really play my first game until 2 years in. getting into any hobby is upfront expensive. and DEFINITELY if you're getting into 40k and want to buy 2,000 pts right from the get go. but i think $60 for a unit thats going to take me about a month to build and fully paint and be proud once i set it onto my shelf is a reasonable price when you consider the amount of time with those models.
Time is not the right way to measure a product. Imagine all the little things you use day to day. Would you pay $100+ for it just because you use it everyday?
@@MajorSquigglesthis. I see this "time spent enjoying the model" argument all the time and it's just pure cope. A Lance of battletech mechs is $25 and provides way, way more time enjoyed than a $70 box of troops. They'll be on the table faster too. Let's not act like warhammer models don't spend the vast majority of their life sitting on a shelf collecting dust until their well painted enough to field. You can use this argument about any game with buildable or or paintable miniatures. And gw looks worse with every single comparisom
You should just go ahead and do your Heresy rules Macca. Lets face it, GW will only make a fresh mess.
41:59 have you seen the rumors/leaks that the Battle Fleet Gothic re-release is going to be HH lmao
135 for 10 scouts??? It's like they are invested in recasters 😂
The Old World dead -- five factions with broad releases within 10 months? That is not a section every 8 month as claimed in the video.
Much of that was just ported from AoS, and two were on drop, realistically it's Orcs and Goblins that's a proper TOW release only, but if you want to say Chaos and Dwarfs are equally valid, I'm fine with that, we all have our own measuring bar!
The unit bloat is why they’ve gone for fixed squads imo 1:37:58
Not surprised you’re former military.
Concise analysis. Disagree on TC regarding pricing as game can be played for free with conversions which are encouraged.
There is no similar game you can play for around $60 total investment. Free rules/ campaign system is a winner. Less if you STL.
Clan Ghost Bear is the best clan
the reason gw may not think its too expensive is that it isn't in the uk where it still is affordable to the demographics they target
Is it though?
@@darko-man8549 let's see. A box of chaos space marines is around 42£. Average pocket money for warhammer aged kids (12 - 18 years) in the UK is around 15£ per week. So the average British kid would need to save up for at least 3 weeks for a box of chaos marines.
For context: I got around 1/4 of that when I was a youngster, I'm not sure how hard inflation has hit pocket money. Is that cheap?
