I just watched this video because just a week ago or so. A friend gave me thier grandmother's jewelries and I found a few of Miriam Haskell's. It has tags and patent numbers so I look it up. The tags are so much the same as you showed on the video. I really like vintage stuff and knowing they are valuable makes it so much better. ❤
That is awesome!
I think that I am becoming passionate about vintage pieces. I am a self taught metalsmith. I think the quality of the jewelry, how it's made, that is the best way to tell.
Ms.Hudson, I know this is beside the subject of vintage jewellery..........in every video clip that I watch of yours not only do I admire your knowledge and the beauty of the pieces shown......I admire your beautiful ”natural” and I am stressing the word natural NAILS...... gosh who isn't wearing fake nails today? And if you don't they usually are bad, like mine 🙄
One of the nicest comments I have ever read. Thank you so much for your words, and for watching XO~Dawn
HUDSON VINTAGE ☺️
#4 on my watch list tonight. You have the best jewelry content.❤
I love the idea of using all your senses including the sense of smell. Great tip! Another example I can think of is rubbing Bakelite. Your pieces are exquisite!!!! I recently bought two vintage haskell pieces at the thrift store for under $7. So you can still find them.
It is possible! THANK you for watching XO~Dawn
Thank you Dawn for this video. Love all your videos, I binge watch all of them. 😊❤️
Yay! Thank you! xo~Dawn
Thank you Dawn. Very nice. Thank you for information 👍❤️
Fantastic video. Nothing like Haskell to make your day.
Wow, wow, wow! You are the best, Dawn! I learned so much in this video. You weren't lying; this will serve as a reference for me. I have a newfound respect for Miriam Haskell jewelry. The backs of the jewelry are almost as beautiful as the fronts. Such ornateness and intricacy - kind of like a beautiful lining on a coat. I love the fact that the wires are all hidden, even in the back. So much attention to detail. And the dimension! So much of today's machine made jewelry is flat. I appreciate the labor that went in to all her pieces. I would have loved to have been one of those ladies who brought the findings home and assembled everything by hand. Sounds like it would have been a fun job :)
BTW, when you mentioned the smell test, I had to laugh, as I have a really bad nose. I wouldn't be able to tell a Haskell from a Robert piece, or any other piece, for that matter!
Thanks for the great advice about paying someone for an appraisal and not selling your jewelry to the appraiser. I had a friend who found an Edwardian brooch at a flea market, and some guy - probably an antique dealer - tried to tell him it was worth nothing and convince my friend to sell it to him! Thankfully, my friend knew he had a treasure and didn't fall for it. Red flag right there!
BTW, do you happen to know where we can get pin guards? An estate saler once gave me a vintage pin guard and told me they are no longer being made. Those are handy to have on hand.
Thanks again for the great video! I will need to get my hands on that Miriam Haskell book!
I would heart this comment a million times if I could. THANK YOU so much for your wonderful kind words! I always felt like I was one of those women in another time, I can just picture them listening to the radio and making jewelry with their cats next to them.. thank you again and the book is so worth it ❤️❤️❤️
I have a pair of Miriam Haskell's signed watermelon green clip on earrings! I've never worn them! I cherish them! I've been collecting since I was 13 years old something or another!😁
Such a wonderful education video!!! Thank you Dawn. I love how Miriam put her jewelry together. ❤️💎💍
Me too!

You have given me such a better appreciation for the design, construction and craftsmanship of this designer. I will be on the lookout for some of these pieces, now with an educated eye! Thank you Dawn!
Dear Dawn, your videos are so much fun to watch and you are so interesting to listen to. The Miriam Haskell jewelry so strikingly beautiful!
Thank you for watching Eva Xo~Dawn
I love this video when u explain ❤
I absolutely adore you. I found you a few weeks ago. I started thrifting to eventually resell glass and porcelain a couple months ago. I am always drawn to the jewelry though. Especially things my very classic and beautiful grams would have worn or had. I started grabbing a few things. These videos are so helpful. I just put a bid on a couple vintage lots today because I was able to identify a few pieces because of you ! I think I’m going to start just doing vintage jewelry now. Luv ya. Thank ya ..bless ya ... Mazel!!
❤️ ❤️
As you discussed value I was reminded of something I learned some time ago and I thought it is a very important point especially in reference to an auction. But that is that the value is also determined by how bad one, or more, really want it and even more by what a buyer will pay and so market may in fact be way off! I certainly could imagine paying quite a bit more than 700 for that belt. Now all that aside I just adore these videos from you, and the education. You are so lovely to do this for your viewers, you are so articulate and knowledgeable and your lessons are just as valuable as the jewelry you show! Thank you very much!
Thank you Kelly you are very very kind! xo~Dawn
I am growing to love your Videos more and more, I love to start my morning with a cup of coffee and one of your lovely informative videos.
I started collecting some monet jewlery recently, and would love to see a video on monet pieces and what they are worth today.

Thank you for the lesson on Miriam Haskell and Robert of Hollywood. I inherited a set, some signed, some not. I will probably e-mail you with a photo if you do not mind, for an valuation.

It's worth it!
@@HUDSONVINTAGE It definitely was! ✌xx
I have a signed pair of clip earrings that my grandmother left me.
COOL!
You made this 2 weeks ago!! Wow! I cannot tell you how long I have been wishing a relatively comprehensive video such as this were in existence. I am an eBay reseller and have been selling vintage jewelry for almost 7 years now and have been fortunate enough to have several Haskell pieces move through my shop. I will admit to having made some errors along the way, but I started out small fortunately. But what absolutely makes me insane are the blatantly, horribly produced, fraudulent pieces that are being sold on eBay sometimes for hundreds of dollars. I mean to tell you Miriam Haskell must be rolling over in her grave. There have been occasions when I’m in a mood and I happen to see some of these horrendous pieces bearing her name, I will report them as fraudulent to eBay but it’s apparent that they take no action. And it’s a shame because it is far more difficult for me to sell my original pieces when people are 1, focusing on fraudulent pieces and 2. know there are fraudulent pieces and don’t buy because they’re unsure if yours is in fact an authentic Haskell So I am sure that you are going to get a tremendous amount of traffic on this video and a good majority of it will be from me recommending it to people from the Ebay community . Your collection is beyond magnificent and I am so extremely jealous. I absolutely adore Miriam Haskell, her pieces are almost magical. The craftsmanship is beyond impeccable, and there is still enough pieces that the average person can afford such as a strand of Haskell pearls or a Haskell brooch. They are treasures no doubt. So I want to thank you for taking the time to do this and I learned a great deal even having dealt with her pieces for as long as I have. Thank you so much. And i will see you at your facebook group!!
Hi Julie, Yup I've done all that too.. sometimes I write to them and let them know. See you in the group! XO~Dawn
I would love to find a Haskell piece !! I really love your collection and I think you have great style! Thank you for inviting us into your world! ☺️
I expect a full report of the hunting adventure :)
Thank you so much for your advice on evaluation.
What a great video, very informative. You have amazing collection 👏👏
I'm glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for watching XO~Dawn
Such beautiful pieces! Thanks for sharing your knowledge ❤️❤️
You are so welcome!
I've been collecting for years..I once found a knot of Merriam Haskell gold hat pins and they were all gold.
Dawn I was going to ask if you can do a video on how to identify Haskle but now I dont have to I do have an unsigned broach and matching earrings ?
Awesome!!! I guess it was good that you watched!! ❤️
Absolutely fabulous video..you couldn't have done a better job of it...
So enjoyed this...
YES! Thank you so much! I really worked on it XO~Dawn
You are totally Awesome and so knowledgeable
Lovely! Thank you so much for sharing your valuable knowledge ❤️
You are so welcome!
Watched tonight July 2024
I love those stars jewelry very unique I hope to find one or two pairs but sounds like it be a while😊
Can you do a segment on newer jewelry by Miriam Haskell? I sold a pair of scarab earrings for $150. Found them in my mother's jewelry box. I don't see much information on the newer pieces.
Hi Dawn - what an amazing amount of information & great tips! I'm confused about the Frank Hess amethyst earrings. I saw wires in the back of the earrings. From what you said earlier in the video, if I saw those wires, I would probably pass on purchasing something similar. I am new to your channel & have been binge watching for 3 days. I absolutely love & appreciate your knowledge, presentation & especially your passion for vintage jewelry. Thank You so much!
Well Great observation, there are rare times when some wires are visible.. I guess nothing is absolute. But for general knowledge it is best to say if you see wires it's not Haskell, you can tell if you hold it next to other jewelry with exposed wires. Also, if I remember correctly, these were from the showroom or the factory, I got them from the collection of the president and owner of Haskell's wife.
Hi I learn so much every time I watch one of your videos. I never see any Sherman. Is that because they are Canadian makers. Or Julianna.
Where does one sell a piece of jewelry? I have a necklace that I was given by a great aunt when I was a child to play dress up. I tried selling on Etsy and no one was interested???
I would have to see it to answer, Thank you so much for watching XO~D
Love This ! Thank You!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think I might’ve found MH necklace that is not signed. Its obviously very old. The Pearl like beads and clasp design look a lot like MH style. When I try to google lens it all that comes up is Miriam Haskell. But the metal on the gold clasp has silver spots. Like it was rubbed off with the time.
Beautiful pieces ❤ 😍
How were you lucky enough to buy directly from the Haskell family? I would have remortgaged my home. Lol
Proprietary secret darling 🙏
All the jewelry is awesome
I have been learning a lot about haskel
YAY!!!
I bought a wonderful Haskell brooch at auction. Really like it but never wore it. 😁
That is awesome!
What is a Rose Monty?
OMG Dawn we’re almost a neighbors. I’m only 40 miles away from you 😳.
Another wonderful video.
I thought got several pieces of M.H
Now I think it’s only one after watching your video 😆
That has happened to us all! Thank you so much for watching! Xo~Dawn
Another wonderful informative video. So true, never sell to someone that gives you an evaluation! Very unethical on their part.
So true!
Thanks!
❤️ Thanks for the tip Mike!
Love Haskell, can you tell us about Coro also. I have friends that collect it
I will try, in the meantime check out the other videos XO~Dawn
What do you mean by double layer is it filigree on the bottom and decorated filigree on top ?
❤
Great video.
Thanks!
WoW Nice watching frm europe
Thanks and welcome MBV xo~Dawn
I like your dress.
Thank you! 😊
I have a pretty signed Miriam Haskell earring set and the back clip on is missing on one earring. Is it still valuable?
I have a pair of signed earrings but there's also a number 5 kind of scratched or etched onto each clip in the back. Curious as to what that is there for. It isn't stamped in.
Thanks for watching and commenting @mistykelley684!
Do you know about the Coro jewelry brand?
Oh yes you must check out the rare finds video I did...
OMG IM HAVING HEART PALPATATIONS! I adore Miriam Haskell Jewelry! How’d you get family pcs!? Love your channel just found you!
Thanks for subbing! Thanks so much for watching Cathy Butler!
WOW!
❤️
I agree. Not to be critical, but it is difficult to see details or even take a screen shot because of the erratic movements. Please take 5 to 8 second increments of still time between details. Thank you.
❤️
Thanks. I love jewelry history, history in general. She had her breakdown during World War II. Think about being a Jewish person at this time? A very scary thing and she may have had family in Europe.
Thanks for watching and commenting CJ Smith!
Yes I’m watching Haskell for the 5th time. I can’t figure out these earrings. Lol
You got this!
Hello I just saw this video All About MIRIAM HASKELL Vintage Jewelry! I found a gold tone Lariat Necklace at a yard sale that has some sort of paper tag with Miriam Haskell signed in cursive. Did they ever uses this kind of tag? The necklace looks like a Haskell necklace but not sure if it is because of the tag.
I would have to be able to see it :)
Ok thank you. Is there a way I can send you a picture or do you need to see it in person?
Thank you for the information. In further videos, could you please not move your hands as it was hard to see the jewelry and what you were showing. Thanks again for the wonderful information
The new videos are much better! Thanks for watching and commenting hockeylilly!
How did you get the jewelry that came from the family.
They contacted me
I found a pair of signed Haskell clip earrings in a terribly tangled wad of jewelry. One has some damage. I don’t know what to do about the damage and I’d love to learn more

This is a great video! I love miriam haskell jewelry but I just started collecting, I bought a pearl necklace with a signature but I'm not sure if it's real.
Thanks for watching and commenting Lu Liu!
So there are never exposed wires in a haskell piece? or is that too much of a big never? please let me know thank you :)
maybe its a damaged haskell? or the 2nd layer of filligree came off ? i found a suspected haskell piece and was just trying to research you dont havre to answer lol thanks
Well I don't like to say never, and sometimes small repairs are recorded.. case by case, and helpful in identifying when there are a lot of wires and obvious construction, so not Haskell.
Haskell often sold their beads to other jewelers.
Thanks for watching and commenting CJ Smith!
I have a signed miriam haskell pearl necklace set what are some of the value of these jewelry
need to see the pics babe xo`Dawn
Hi I have a necklace dont know make could I send a picture to you thanks
Yes of course! hudsonvintage@me.com

Oh that's a hard one! Have you watched my "how to care for vintage jewelry video" ? Also I know someone in NY, not sure if she is still doing it.. I'll check. Email me so I can back to you if she is. hudsonvintage@me.com

You would have more engagement and followers if you up your camera work and remove yourself from the show and tell aspect of showing the pieces. You move around, the pieces twist and turn, get caught in your hair and in general you are photographed in medium format so unfortunately it difficult to see. This is a visual medium. You have the expertise and great taste but people are not engaged due to weak blurry visuals.
Hi qbee53, Thank you so much for your important feedback. This video is an earlier video that I did, when I was just starting out. I needed to pay for better lighting and sound. I was also trying to stay consistent with my uploads during the lockdown, and had to set up at home, with power outages due to fire safety shut offs. I learned to stop moving around in my more recent videos, and they are worth watching. Thanks again for writing!
Slow movement down
👍 ❤️ 👁⬂👁
Fantastic info but you are still moving too much on closeups and often no time to get in focus. Frustrating to watch
WHY DOES THE MUSIC NEED TO BE SO LOUD?
Because I was still learning all the technical aspects of shooting video.. it's a whole other study on top of jewelry! Thank you for watching Lorraine! xo~Dawn
And it lasted sooo long. 🙄
Petty comment
Never ever Russian gold gets this cheep metal color!😅

Exquisite Haskell pieces 🤩🌹❤️
Right?!
Thank you for such an informative video! What a beautiful collection, too! I collect vintage clothing but wasn't very interested in vintage jewelry until a family friend let me go through their grandmother's collection and I came across quite a few amazing signed Haskell pieces, mostly chandelier and drop earrings covered in findings. I believe she actually worked at the department store where they were originally sold, assumedly around the 50s-60s. I was kindly allowed to keep what I wanted so my collection had quite the start! Oddly, I've still never bought a piece on my own, but I've been gifted a couple more. I wish all my collections were like that, haha. Once the pandemic is over, I'm so ready to go on the hunt again!
Oh you are lucky! thank you so much for sharing your Haskell story! xo~Dawn
I adore you too!! So interesting. I was never a big fan of jewelry, but I can’t stop looking at them in thrift store because of you. ❤️
That is very sweet Natalie, thank you kindly. Now go find something good! :)
Such a wonderful video Dawn! You have an amazing collection. I do have a question. At 33:34 the back of the earrings have wires exposed which I thought you indicated earlier shouldn't happen with Haskell. Please explain the exceptions. Thanks!
Hi! You have a great eye! These were made for the wife of the president of Haskell at the time, Mrs. Moss. They were sort of in house samples. BTW I recognize you and thanks for watching and writing and all xo~D
@@HUDSONVINTAGE Ahhh! Mystery solved! I've always loved Haskell and would like to become good at recognizing it. Love your videos!
11:00 please care for the “verdigris” issue with this lovely bracelet it will destroy not only the piece it’s growing on but any other jewelry stored with it
Yes I noticed it when I was taping the video! I will most likely do a video on "getting rid of the greenies" Thank you so much for watching! Xo~Dawn
