Hi Stuart. I also do metal detecting over here in England. This week I found half of a half groat. A groat is four pence. A half groat is two pence so this is half pence worth of silver! This was of the King James 1 (James iv of Scotland). He actually wrote a book on witches and started a lot of the witch trials. Imagine a King writing a book on witches. This is kept pretty quiet! Best wishes Stuart.

Hi Nigel. Thanks for sharing this. I recall you showing some of your finds in previous videos. Very cool you found the half of a half groat. I will admit I never heard the term groat before. It's very interesting that he wrote the book on witches. I can see why it would be kept quiet. There is a lot of history in England going way back. Best wishes Nigel.

Interesting to listen to your rumination here, I love your careful, thoughtful responses to these books, struggling to align author intentions with reader expectations - really engaging discussion. Thanks for this, Stuart.

found your yt video on a recommendation! thanks for sharing your thoughts on normal people. i realized that i actually haven't read a single book in 2024 (crazy), so i began to read again this year. i'll be saving myself the hassle from reading this book and using that time on other literature pieces instead.

I would have been tempted by "The Paleontologist" as well. Sometimes, they just seem like they should be better than they are. I liked the cover on that one, too.

Very true. Sometimes they just don't live up to expectations

We agree on a lot of these, except for Carmilla -I quite liked it. Haven't read the Stephenie Meyer

I remember enjoying Midnight Sun when it came out... but agree that it was definitely too long 😅

I was actually thinking of reading Intermezzo because I've read that it is much better than the early Rooney novels. We'll see. Very thoughtful video, Stuart. You certainly don't sound like you're ranting at all. You're discussion is very balanced.

I you do read it, I will be interested in what you think of it. Thanks Pat. I try to recognize that just because I don't like a book doesn't mean that others won't like it.

@@stuartgriffin1001 exactly. I never really rant about a book either. I might say that something doesn't work for me and why, but I'm not about ripping books or writers apart. Ever.
