I'm sorry to hear about the shoulder... Just thinking about your comment for more surgery, I bet your subscribers would love to hear from you "with or without your riding... You could update on your surgery, update on your favorite kit, bike maintenance, biker scran (even if you don't ride) just chatting with the guys... Don't go radio silent, we'll miss you :). As a 51 year old southerner, I can't recall another winter so endlessly wet and miserable. I know we're well used to it in the UK, but we've had low pressure over us since October which even for us is exceptional. It really has been utterly awful. Sorry to hear the shoulder is still bad - double (or is that treble) misery. Really hope you get a result with it soon.

Love these blogs, Andy. Lovely part of the world there with some fascinating history. You gave us just enough to pique our curiosity to find out more. I discovered that the chalk excavated from the Hellfire Caves was used to make that bit of A40 between West and High Wycombe! Despite the ongoing saga with the shoulder you still managed to make a wonderfully uplifting vid full of the joys of spring. We’ll be gutted to see you go off-air, if it comes to that (though obviously not as much as you’ll be), but us Missenden Flyers will be rooting for you and wishing you the very best for a speedy return. Here’s to better weather and light at the end of the caves.

Such a lovely bike! You hit the nail on the head (for me) ref the touring vlogs! I can't ever imagine paying the high cost of those long distance tours ie Canada or Japan so I didn't watch much of them. I plan to ride much more around the UK so would defiantly be interested to watch anything you do in the UK. Very sorry to hear your shoulder is still bad....that's a real bummer. Fingers crossed it gets sorted soon.

So sorry to hear the shoulder isn't doing what it's suppose to be after your 1st operation, and wishing you all the best for the next step. Hey man, if you do have to take a few weeks off, just make some videos about gear and such. Another great video here where you just talk about what’s on your mind. I mean bike reviews are great, but we get to know more about you and where you are over there and what it’s like over there. A lot of us Americans will probably never see this stuff even if we were to visit Britain. Just probably the tourist stuff. With videos like these, we get a tour, so to speak, and I love it. I was in Spain from 92-97 in the Air Force and I always loved to just ride around and explore the Country and my kids loved hearing about it. Wish I had a bike camera back then so I could have shown them what it was like. This is great! Still adding you to my prayer list for your shoulder. Get well soon!!

It's refreshing to see these places through the eyes of a fellow biker. Also we all watch plenty of content on bikes we can't afford or will never own, so why not tours.

The weather looks lovely there when the sun is out. I have had the opposite problem with too much sun. It's been an awful hot summer here, and it's been difficult to find the motivation to put on riding gear when it's 35 centigrade and 90% humidity. I feel a bit guilty I have only had my bike out twice over the summer, but now it's cooled down and I can ride without being sunburnt and drenched in sweat I am back out and loving it, especially cutting through the traffic on the way to work.

Once you’re patched up and back as the ‘bionic man’ I agree entirely with doing some tours to show off the great riding roads and areas we have in the United Kingdom. I had a fantastic week last summer riding around the North Pennines and Yorkshire Dales, fantastic riding roads/beautiful scenery and very little traffic. I can thoroughly recommend the ‘Fat Lamb’ Pub as a base, run by petrol heads/classic car fans in a wonderful spot for exploring the area. So much variety ride on our doorstep there’s no need to travel very far 😊

Good luck with your shoulder, hope the recovery is swift. I too have a dodgy shoulder (& knee come to that), but for fear of living ever after under the 'scalpel of Damocles', I'm reticent to subject myself to the surgeon's joy. There's loads of content you could publish without being on a bike - news, garage stuff, general bloggage, gear, bike mods/maintenance etc....., so please keep it coming - unless of course you fancy a break, which under the circumstances would be understandable. Some touring would be most welcomed upon your riding return & I like your ideas - maybe even some European stuff - get yourself down this way (Comumidad Valenciana, Spain), not often tread by UK bikers, but well, well worth it - I'll give you some pointers!!!!

Praying your shoulders get squared away; multiple surgeries are not for the faint of character. This winter here in Michigan, USA, has been up and down. 60s F one day and then 20s F the next. Unbelievable range of temperatures. I love the vlog type of videos and share the exact reason you ride - it's therapy for the soul. I don't always rip around at full tilt, but that adrenalin burst is thrilling. I've recently lost my father, so getting out when I can on the bike is entirely necessary. There's nothing to enjoy about riding when it's dark and wet in my opinion and I don't take my bike out when there's salt on the roads either. As for the Diavel, it's more bike than I need and definitely more bike than I can afford!

Hi Andy, great blog and what lovely weather. It’s done nothing but rain here in the Western Pennines since October! So no biking and no golf - how will I survive!! I know, holidays abroad and that’s been our bag with bike hire (Singapore was great fun). Sad to hear about your shoulder - just get it fixed, Andy. I got my right shoulder pinned almost twenty years ago - and touch wood - I haven’t had a problem since, aside from initial physio to get range of movement back. Anyway good luck with it. Once you’re back, and from my perspective, do your tours! They are relatable as they show people and places one might not normally see and with bikes. Yours aye, Alan

Speaking of being blinded by the Sun, where I live, in the weeks just before winter, and for a few weeks in the spring, because the Sun is low in the sky, you often get the Sun right in your eyes, which I hate. When blinding sun is combined with a 30 km/hr headwind on the highway, that's brutal.

I know what you mean about the weather here in the south. I have been on garden leave since January and was hoping to get some riding in. I have spent more time cleaning the bikes than riding them. Not sure what your shoulder problem is. I had a rotator cuff repair 3 years ago and it was 6 weeks in a sling and then physio for me. It was worth it though. Good luck and don’t rush the recovery. Your patience will be rewarded

The Diavel has never really appealed to me, plus it's so expensive, I just think there are far better choices for fun to be had. I can relate to the depression when unable to ride. So far we have had 3 false starts to spring, each time temps dropping to below -25C, plus snow again after it warms up again. Last week I had a long drive home, every road was closed after I joined it, blowing snow, blizzard conditions, 1.5'-2' of soft wet snow. It was so bad that the journey took 2.5 extra hours over normal and I had to pull 4 different families out of deep snow and a couple of ditches, there were cars and trucks strewn everywhere. Usually my mood starts improving, after the sun is out for a few days, I can smell spring and I begin to get excited for my first ride of the season, then more crap weather and spring seems so far away again, it's a roller-coaster. Sorry to hear the shoulder is still farkled, hopefully take 2 will give you some relief 👍

As a former Diavel owner I must say the new V4 is way better looking than my old 2013 Model, the only problem with the one you are riding is it's NOT red ! I was impressed with your off-road testing skills in the car park it's not often you see a Diavel doing the adventure bike bit. Sorry to hear about your shoulder , hopefully it won't prevent you touring in the summer. I do have a suggestion that while recuperating from your surgery you could always entertain us with kit reviews and additional bike news slots.

We’re having a glorious spring day tomorrow and I’m going to ride my bicycle. First grow some ‘bottom flesh’ (as we say here in the Netherlands) (make your bottom getting used to sit on a saddle for a long time so it won’t hurt) before I’m making a longer motorcycle ride.
It will be the only nice day of the coming weeks because the weather will become colder and wetter again.
You will have to be very careful with your shoulder for the rest of your life and make sure you don’t overload/overstrain it; especially after surgery. The first few times you do, it won’t that hurt that much but then inflammation will be at its peak again and it will take very long before that decreases and you may hope the inflammation stops. I have experience on this 😢. I had surgery on both shoulders and for ten years everything was fine. But then I had to move my old fridge because I had bought a new one. The day after I almost cried of pain. Only now, a year later, I can say my shoulder is hurting a lot less.
I hope the best for your shoulder surgery. I did a special program to strengthen the shoulder muscles without overstraining them. Training with weights of about 1-2 kilograms, no more. More exercises with light weights is better than less exercise with heavy weights. Build it up slowly.

Shoulder is going to be tough. maybe visit some local delers, museums, etc. Things of motorcyclists interest. My new knee dominates my life so I can relate. A year given up at 68 for the unknown future. ate to miss riding but also feel the same about being in pain. Duc is an interesting piece. The view from the bars is great. Not a big fan of the stying but the ride looks great. That's what counts. Local tours to the lakes and other areas, some restaurants rides with the guys, a club meet and a rally ABR? things of that nature. Next time.

    Andy,
Only 30-45 minutes of riding at a pop is a bummer. Hopefully the second procedure on your shoulder will do the trick.
My foot recovery is normally progressing so I have returned to riding without a time limit. Soon, I am going somewhere on an overnighter. Possibly New Mexico and Arizona in May before my nephew's wedding. I am also going to ride to Savannah, Georgia to visit an aviation museum.
From what I hear the Ducati has a uniquely pleasing sound. Nice looking weather for a change too.
    Cheers from Tennessee,
    Mitch

Hi Andy. Another great blog. Sorry to hear that your surgery hasn't been as successful as hoped. As a all year around rider aswell the weather does take the shine off of it, and I too look forward to the brighter and warmer days. Can I request that you try the BMW S1000R. I've watched your previous review some years ago and having owned both versions I think they have improved. While I'm on a roll, there is a new biker cafe called 'The Chopper Shop' in Bristol. Keep up the good work and all the best for your next surgery.
