Can’t believe I’m about to comment on a UA-cam video for the first time. I should know better.
I think this video captures a moment in time. I think the use of AI here has been directed by an artist and utilizes the uncanniness of AI in an effective way. This video is successful now because it uses AI limitations as an intentional aesthetic that will likely be repeated but not as effectively as this. I think it was Brian Eno who said something to the effect that all media is defined by its limits: the hiss of a cassette tape, CDs skipping, VHS tracking issues, these define that media. That is this. I’m an illustrator. I work in feature stop motion. I hate AI. I think it will be gone soon. This is a good video. You may now get mad at me a lot.

Completely enamored by this band! I tell everyone that cares about them. Heard them in 2016 and had a chance to see them in my hometown(Vegas), but I missed out.
Indie Lo-Fi/PinkFloyd/Beatles/Sebadoh/Pavement and, of course, Radiohead all mixed in one. You tube will have to suffice for now. Long live Wand!!!

To the critics:
Wand are a band - music is their art-form. Why do we expect musicians to release visual art alongside their music? We don’t ask professional painters to accompany their artworks with songs. Personally, I wouldn’t care if their music video was just a dog shitting in slow motion.
You’ve sidestepped the point; whether you want a video or not isn’t the issue raised, it’s that a video has been created (most likely label paid for) and instead of bringing in a relevant artistic skill and giving that opportunity to artists who rely on this platform to eek out a living and niche for their creations, whilst enhancing the audio artistry, the commissioners have instead turned to a cheap and quick fix that is damaging to art itself. To turn your argument on its head, if Wand were to release AI generated music it would remove any artistic worth and reason for its existence. The analogy to America’s institutionalising and global spread of fast food and industrial food production works well...by the time the price was realised it was too late. Generative AI in creative artistry fields is the onset of humanity’s lack of faith in its own abilities. The seeds of idiocracy. But yeah...I’d rather have had the dog shitting in slomo, waaaaaay more interesting and organic.
You’re exactly right, bands and musicians have absolutely no obligation to release a music video to accompany their songs….so then why do it anyways, and half ass the effort by hiring someone who uses generative A.I. ? There are no doubt an incredible amount of artists out there who would have LOVED to animate, draw, or record something from the fruit of their own creative minds, for such an amazing band. Something that was inspired, had soul, had character. The type of A.I. animation seen in this video - yes, it has a very peculiar and difficult to replicate vibe - but at the end of the day there is no merit to it. We should all be willing to sacrifice that particular vibe if it means actually getting to see what true creatives have in mind. Inspiration is one thing, yes as artists we are all inspired by someone, but that is in no way the same as the blatant stealing that is an A.I. product.
I have so much respect for Wand as a creative being. Cory Hanson is one of my absolute peak influences. But I’m my opinion, they should have hired a real artist, or just not released a video at all.

Radiohead is my fav band for the past 20 years and this reminds me so much of them. Wand has so much depth. Another incredible track here. Well-written as always. Have not heard a bad song by them yet.

Damn dude. Huge huge Wand fan for a while now, love the art direction theyve had throughout their career from album cover, to music video, to merch and such…. Which makes the choice to use A.I. images even more of a disappointment.
I will always support the band and won’t judge them off of a single circumstance! But I truly hope to never again see them choose A.I. over the true soul and inspiration of genuinely human-produced artwork.

Great music. But AI "video:" remains lame and limited. Skip it. I'd prefer stop motion.
I recognize many of the artists that the algorithms in this video stole from. Nothing will stop this from marching on but it fucking sucks that the artists responsible for the aesthetics in this video will never get credit or compensation.

I’m glad to see the pushback against AI in music vids. Yet if the original source is from an animator maybe that’s ok. Yet almost all AI characters look like (in music vids of all genres) like their from that popular inbred family.

why? A video made with stopmotion costs anywhere from $10k upwards. you think they are going to sink that into a music video in the age of tiktok? in an era where artists are paid less historically on every front?
Using AI (effectively, in good taste) is so fine. demanding artists not use it is arrogant and limits creativity. Its simply a tool.
@@bambogini commissioning a simple briefed (cheaper even public domain sourced stock footage and texturally animated video) can be done smartly for £800 to £1500 to a freelance creative editor, be completed within 2 days if briefed correctly, and will have a resonance much more analogous to the bands music. Generative AI imagery and animation lifts directly from reference materials it has no right to, and in the end arc of its evolution removes the art, skill, nuance and humanity that makes the moving image so powerful. It’s Easter egg work, hollow and lacking anything beyond a sugary quick hit and denigrates the music it represents.
@@Farold_Haltermeyer point me in the direction of the creative director that will make something at that price range that is of a decent quality. Because I will use them immediately.
Also are you aware of how expensive stock footage is? (and how poor free stock footage is). If you were using free stock footage it would take a very long time to find what you need and enough to cut together for a 4 minute music video.

I love the way AI is used in this video. All the morphing and uncanniness works really well with the hypnotic vibe of the song. Feels like a massive stretch of time merging into a blurry memory.

so Spotify = bad (which it is), but AI = ok? The track slaps, but I'm really disappointed at them for this video, having showed that they had qualms about streaming platforms which don't compensate their creators fairly. And yes, same topic here, idgaf if you think because it's video it's somehow unrelated.

The fact that everyone can immediately tell that this video was made with AI kind of proves that, in this instance, it isn’t stealing any particular style or aesthetic from any actual human artist, as its primary aesthetic is being made with AI. The weird spatial bloopers, the shaky instability, etc is the dominating style here.
