Maybe if it's a remake instead, where you can actually level up so the 90% of encounters that were wasting time are worth doing. Or at least make it so skipping encounters doesn't require you waste a deck slot on a dedicated escape chip and HOPING you draw it. Some kind of map to navigate those convoluted areas wouldn't hurt either.
This collection is amazing. The nostalgia from the badass story to the hair ripping memories of being stuck on one damn boss for days is beautiful. Capcom outdid themselves with remastering some of my favourite gamboy game days

They aren't gonna make a Megaman Zero 5, because Capcom originally intended for the Zero series to be a trilogy, but in Zero 3 they made Omega the main villain to give more depth on his backstory and that of the Elf Wars, and in Zero 4 they made the main villain Weil to end the series and Capcom killed Zero to avoid making a fifth Megaman Zero game. So you mean they'll hopefully make a third ZX game, maybe called Megaman ZX Ultimus.
I'm glad that even though the reviewer may not be good at the games or not have the time and play on causal mode that they still gave a review that accurately judges the games quality and the effort put into the collection. I think the points made about soul crushing difficulty and spending hours on bosses are exaggerated but it is somewhat true for new players which the reviewer was probably one of them. Even with that he didn't list that as a negative unlike some other reviewers who played classic games for the first time like that terrible Crash bandicoot review awhile ago. Great review all around.
i feel like it was a very wrong design decision to make the buster the main weapon by default starting on Zero 1. i've seen a bunch of blind playthroughs and that ends up leading a lot of new players to primarily use the buster for most of the game..and also by design the buster is almost worthless compared to the saber. so they're essentially playing a self imposed hard mode. as soon as you get the saber on Zero 1, the game should automatically swap the buster to the sub weapon slot, to give the message loud and clear "this is your real weapon".
Saying “maybe we can finally get another megaman zero game” is a things I’ve said for several years now. And I’m still willing to hold out. Gunvolt is cool but no replacement for my man Zero
The Megaman X series had stinkers near the end, but the classic series was always consistently good. Megaman 8 is the weakest game, but it's still fun. 5 and 6 might be "more of the same" to some, but individually speaking they are among the best games on the original NES.

For me there weren't any bad games either in the classic collection but some like 4, 5, and 8 are in my opinion rather forgettable. X collection though...yeah I'm not defending 6 or 7.
I love that Capcom gave Zero a different colour in the journalist mode so you can instantly know to dislike the video. Like Jesus, watching you play is embarrassing, no wonder you call this soul-crushingly difficult
The gameplay show was Horrendusly Bad and A new megaman zero? really? Is like this Guy didnt even play Megaman zero 1 to 4. The story IS DONE. there is no way for MOre Megaman Zero games. ZX were the continuation 100 years into the future after zero 4.
Well, there could be some new Megaman series taking place between Zero and ZX. It's just that Zero's own story has ended, but there could be a direct aftermath of it. Seeing the origin of the Biometals and whatnot.

There is also the business with the first gen/prototype Megamen like Prometheus and Pandora, and the Trinity's upbringing. There might not be any named heroes or villains as of now, but there is a lot of material to make something out of it.

Heaps of praise for Capcom remastering the cutscenes and including blood splatters in the Japanese version. But after two other legacy collections, is it really so hard to give us options to have Japanese voice acting with English text? With an hour of work I was able to switch out the god awful English dub and cutscenes for Japanese in a ZX Advent rom. It's the only way I played the game all these years despite owning the actual cartridge. There's literally no excuse Capcom couldn't make a simple menu setting to mix and match audio and text so nobody has to hear the shameful dub work they conducted. And include a blood splatter toggle while they're at it. And maybe revise the localisation too so we don't have janky dialog like "He's going to retire us". A villain might threaten that once or twice. But nobody uses that in normal speech, especially to refer to oneself. There are certain artifacts of retro games that are quaint and humorous in hindsight like "It's dangerous to go alone. Take this" or "I feel asleep." "Retire" is not one of those things. This is a game with a story that begs to be taken at least somewhat seriously. Kinda hard to do that when the dialog snaps you out of the entire experience.
Zero series was never really That tough, the biggest issue came from penalties from using cyber elves if you cared about your rank at all. To make it worse they locked zeros traditional techniques hed normally learn just by killing a boss in the x series behind the ranking system as well, making it so at least an A rank was required to learn those skills.
Good god, who recorded this footage, that Cuphead guy? First of all they're using the smoothing filter which looks horrible. And all they do is spam uncharged buster shots and walk directly into enemies. No wonder he mentioned "soul-crushing difficulty" and having to spending hours on the same boss...
I wanna get into this series, but my god it's so UGLY. Why is it 1000 years later, but Zero looks 10 years younger? What happened to his badassness? Thick, stable, mecha legs/feet were replaced with slender, anthropomorphic legs and boots like he has actual feet in them. His likewise buff, chonky robot arms to accommodate all that power in his Z Buster was downgraded to dainty sticks that could barely hold up the little shit peashooter he outsourced his manhood to. Finally, an unstoppable, unpredictable beam of energy that was at times half sword, half whip (but became more lightsaber-like in X6 onward), was replaced with a translucent Christmas tree.
Yeah they can be very difficult. Lots of longtime mega man fans can agree on that. But it's insane difficulty done right. This series deserves its pedestal. 💙
Final Verdict is: Just Use An Emulator. The devs behind these titles don't even WORK for Capcom anymore, so if you really want to support THEM, go buy Gunvolt.
Inti is still in a large chunk a freelance company so Capcom can always hire then for some new projects, like they did with Mega Man 9 and 10. And Capcom is still gauging interest in the series through the collections. In other words: buying it only boosts the chances of ZX3 happening so yeah. Do it.

I may a be a fan of the series but I honestly stopped caring about these games bc capcom essentially deserted the franchise. I honestly only paid attention to this bc capcom performed curveball this year. But thing is definitely for sure. Unforgiving level design is one of the major points in the zero 1 and sometime zero2 all these others one are honestly quite fair. For you to constantly critique the game for it’s difficultly when you’re obviously refusing to actually charge your weapon and z saber seems self inflicted. Learn how to actually play the game before actually trying to critique a game for it’s difficultly. This isn’t a fanboy talking here this is just a gamers perspective
This review was in general pretty weak, I haven't even gotten into the game yet, but the start menus are atrocious, and the BGM volume can't be adjusted, the settings in general are weak as shit, with barely any options to adjust at all, it's not a good look so far, and I would think a review would mention that, since the whole point of owning a collection like this in the first place instead of just emulating it yourself is ease of access, which to me the collection is failing to deliver for me so far, just my 2 cents.
Really terrible review i made sure to dislike. We need reviewers with consistency. First of all mm 1-10, if you like 1 there's nothing to dislike or drop in quality... I mean it was cheap to cop out of making a mm11 with 9 and 10 but still if you like 1-6 theres nothing to dislike Onto zero... Samething, how tf does zero 1 not hold up? If thats the case then there isnt a single goddamn mm game that holds up. Its story is the most epic and the gameplay is fantastic, even if they improved the games with each release it still holds up... Leading us to ZX and ZXA... Zero 1 doesn't hold up. There's some bad level design, the scoring system\ cyber elves are bad, and grinding for weapon levels is annoying. Its not bad, but it had some kinks that Zero 2 cleared up.
