  • If you're a fan of sailing or pirate games, "Sailwind" may have slipped under your radar. Made by single developer, Raw Lion, "Sailwind" brings a lot to the table for those looking for a more realistic approach to sailing. In "Sailwind," you play as a merchant mariner sailing from island to island looking to make a profit. "Sailwind" does not hold your hand and forces the player to learn and adapt quickly to their surroundings.
Do you have what it takes to sail the ocean blue?

This is simply one of the best sailing games out there. It's simply amazing, navigation and sailing 100% realistic but still approachable to gamers. I play Sea of Thieves and still play this game a lot for the realistic sailing.

Your tutorials on navigation has been incredibly helpful! Just watched a bunch of them this week and it expanded the amount of enjoyment I get from Sailwind.

Unless they add combat, this is not really a pirate game

Sailwind spoiled me on ship games. Unless the mechanics of actually getting around are at least that engaging I'm probably not interested. :P Here's hoping for Sailwind's success and maybe a bigger-budget sailing RPG in the future.

Agreed. Other sailing games are boring to me now.

ive had my eye on this one for a while just havent picked it up yet. maybe if sea of thieves ever bans me for exploiting how their servers work. basically you can get a solo player world if you use macros and know how the servers work. their motto has always been "tools not rules" so if i know how their servers lock down after 24 hours so no new ships can join and via a mechanical keyboard and a macro i can keep myself from ever server merging off that locked server... thats a tool right? they did add safer seas but its so restrictive theres no point to that. though when you are the only ship on the seas as people on safer seas are realizing theres no one else for the constant pve to spawn on. so every trip between islands you do you will get skeleton ships or meglagons or krakens so yea its definitly not relaxing even if you dont have to worry about pvp theres so many pve spawns now.

What's the point of being on a server yourself at all? The other players and interaction is what makes the game fun?

@@tjw_ Sailing without combat doesn't hold much challenge in SoT, but it can still be a nice relaxing experience doing some merchant runs and fishing or whatever. Plus you can still fight skeleton ships. It also has the graphics advantage.
Though for engaging sailing mechanics, Sailwind wins.

Good vid mate, one small note. The sails you call “stray” are actually called “Stay” because they mount onto stays. 😉

@@tonybodlovic5825 I was referring to what they are grouped as in the game, I didn’t want to be technical. In the game you can put any genoa or job on stays fore aft or between the masts
