Quick note regarding the Palette, the centre section that holds the pans lifts out to provide an extra mixing area underneath , Happy days :)

The gold ochre is a 3 pigment mix, PY43,+PR102+PY2.
    The rest of the 24 color Sonnet set I have: Zinc white=PW4, lamp black=PBk7+PR63:3+PB15, orange=PO13, bluish green=PB15:3+PG7,violet light=PV2, violet deep=PV3, raw sienna, burnt sienna and burnt umber= PB7, Sepia=PR102+PR187+PBk7, english red=101, emerald=PG7 (so actually phtalo green), sap green=PG7+PY3, green deep=PG8, hanza lemon=PY3, yellow medium=PY1, yellow deep=PY2, red light=PR2, carmine=PR170:1,madden lake=PR63:1, ultramarine light=PB29, azure=15:3 and blue=PB15.
With these numbers you can find some more detailed info on lightfastness than the 3 star rating system on the box.
I agree with your review, and the quality (and not in the least price/quality ratio of this brand) makes me convinced when I will upgrade to artistgrade, White Nights will be a good idea.
    I

Ooohhh I did paint while youtube was “talking in the background” in its auto play. I didn’t really recognize what was on there. And I suddenly heard your voice! Immediately recognized you by that!!! I know, there used to be many people telling you that they really find your voice soothing, as do I!!! On top of it, I do own that palette and have had it since summer and noticed that it was not very popular around UA-cam so far. So, I am twice as happy today!!! Have a great one and stay safe and healthy!!!😊

I love this yellow set! Ive been wanting one for over a year. Maybe 2022is the year I finally take the dive. Sonnet were the first good watercolors I've used and I still have a few colors left from my first set. I have a small set of 16 White Nights, which I bought open stock and are curated for my own preference. Very good review!

Hi from Estonia. White Night's quin rose and rose looks exactly the same but quin rose has three star ratings and rose just one. And if you liked White nights red ochre then you definitely would like they Shakhnazarskaya red.

Superb and very thorough review! Thanks for sharing! :) I recently finished a lightfast test (5months) of this Sonnet set, scans up on my blog if you're interested. In a nutshell, Madder Lake Red PR63:1 and Violet Light PV2 faded significantly and Orange PO13 faded as well but not as much as the previous two I mentioned. All the others remained unchanged, even Violet Deep PV3. Quick note: my palette hasn't been stained as badly as yours; manufacturing inconsistency maybe?

Hi! Where can i find results? My first watercolors were sonet, looking into ladoga and white nights, would be grateful for more info about fading.

That's good to know, thanks for that work.
I do love that PV2 and PV3 and have bought more in White Nights pans, lightfastness doesn't worry me, I'm only learning and practicing.
I can't find anything in White Nights equivalent to the Sonnet deep yellow PY2 , that's something of a gap unless one wants to go for a cadmium. I'm definitely on the search for a lookalike somewhere.
You may like to know that I've found some old recipe Carmine 170:1 at stpertersburgwatercolours.com I'm not sure where they mail to or how long they'll have the old stock as it has the same product number (irritating) but I bought 3 and they are all old version. I think is still old version in some of the Sonnet cardboard boxes but who knows when it will or has changed!

The only open stock from Sonnet is the metallics.

Hi, I'm just starting out what watercolors would your recommend, winsor & newton cotman 12 set or sonnet 16 set? I would very much appreciate your suggestions

Hmmmm, do I get this 21 set with it's lovely tin, or the 24 set + separate empty tin that I can expland and grow...decisions, descisions!
Great video. I cant quite afford the splurge on White Nights 36, so a £20ish price point is perfect to start out with.

Is the clip at the left under the blocks an extra mixing tray ?? I see the numbers on left corner of each square on the insert are there refills available. Thanks for review 🤗

    • @smoothie77drawingpainting
      @smoothie77drawingpainting  3 роки тому

Yes the centre section that holds the pans lifts out so you can have extra mixing wells, not sure about refills? I couldn't find any info about that.

These look much better than Van Gogh! I guess they are not more popular because of availability etc.
