I don't know if you'll see this, but I wanted to thank you for making this very specific video. I've used PIA for a couple years now, and I've used a Untangle router for over a decade(!), and I had no idea the two could work together like this until I saw your video. A couple details in the configuration have changed a bit, but your video had all the info I needed to figure it out and get things working.
The reason why I found this so helpful right now is because of annoying youtube ads. Every evening when I come home from work, I have dinner with my father and we watch a youtube video or two on his ipad while we eat together. Here in Iowa, the local political ads on youtube have reached OBNOXIOUS levels. Trying to get through the latest episode of 'Welcome to the Basement' (about 30 minutes long) there was a political ad for our governor about every 2 - 4 minutes. The constant interruptions almost drove me into a rage.
Thanks to you showing how to make PIA work in Untangle, and specifically, how to turn individual devices on and off with it using the tunnel tag, I can now "tunnel tag" my father's ipad before dinner, make it look like he's in Chicago, and now we get no more annoying local political ads interrupting our youtube entertainment. I had all the tools necessary to do it for years, but I didn't have the knowledge. So for that missing piece, I sincerely thank you. Not a lot of people out there talk about Untangle, so I appreciate it. 👍

Tom introduced me to Untangle from his last video. It has replaced my pfSense. Really like their web filter module, especially the "online ads" category. Ads are blocked but websites do not detect that you have a ad blocker installed and limit your functionality until you white list them.
On top of other features, vLANs are super simple to setup, their UI is super simple to understand, easily explained, reporting is well done. I'll be purchasing their 5 year home pro subscription here soon. Love it.
    Thank you Tom.

Pfsense is great at being an open source firewall, but it's not as turn key as other solutions like untangle. Might need to give it a go, to be honest I'm dreading having to redo my setup on untangle.

This is great, should mention that the tags do in fact need to be setup and you need to check the vpn you want the traffic routed on or it will just route it normally without the vpn since that is technically one of the available tunnels.

Thanks Tom, might have to look into Untangle at some point. 👍

I've been trying to do this with ExpressVPN and pfsense 2.4.4 for days. Unfortunately, the ExpressVPN tutorial is for pfsense 2.3.3, but I thought it can't be that different surely. Boy was I wrong! I'm sure pfsense is a great product, but I just need something that works now so I'll take the easy route and go for Untangle.

I’m curious if you have to tag traffic on the Gateway to deny this traffic from going out the default gateway should the VPN fail.

I wish you could tag or route certain type of traffic over it, not a host, for example the torrent traffic, does not look it's supported

So do you recommend this Untangled over ASUS implementation built into routers *just speaking vpn *. Setup is similar in about the same time and plugin with OpenVPN? Always great video!!

Thanks for making these vids, I always enjoy watching them. Quick question RE: Untangle, Secure DNS/TLS DNS. I done some searching and from what I can see it doesn't support Secure DNS. Is that right? Any suggested workarounds? Untangle looks awesome but I don't want to got back to normal DNS. Cheers.

Does this also prevent DNS leaks? And I assume if the VPN drops out that client would have zero internet access? I may have to switch to this from the unifi gateway.

It would take writing more polices but it could be done

Is there a way to route from the SAME media player to different VPN services?
meaning if BBC is being watched it routes to UK VPN of if HULU requested then choose USA VPN.
Route traffic to the BBC, iTV, etc. out through the UK VPN.
Route traffic to Hulu, Netflix, etc. out through the USA VPN.
Route all other traffic normally through the WAN.

I tried Untangle following the steps here but with a different VPN provider. Traffic didn't initially go through the tunnel but many hours later it did. Do you need to flush the routing table on either Untable or the clients on the network?
