    Best video I have seen so far on SLC and I have watched a lot of them so far. A few questions though:
    1. At the 0:45s mark what are you stapling to the wall to keep the SLC from getting under the drywall? Where can I buy this?
    2. Can you show a detailed video of how to stop SLC from moving into a utility room a closet space? Use wood or drywall to block?
    3. Does this process change if I am laying down in-floor electric heating cable? Do I still use the spiked roller or do I need something else to help me release the bubbles without destroying the wires?

    Thank you for this tutorial! We will be doing this if our linoleum tests negative for asbestos, otherwise we will encapsulate it. If it is asbestos, do you have any suggestions for what to seal the linoleum with before we put the new floor on top? It's located in the kitchen and mostly undamaged except for a small dime sized hole. The new floor will be interlocking vinyl planks backed by dimple sheeting and someone suggested we use tar paper for leveling. I would value your feedback, thanks!

      You can level your linoleum with concrete self-leveling. Just use a special primer for it. for example: Mapei primer T.

    Nice video hopefully it can help me I just ripped out a strapped basement floor because of a water leak. This time around I do not want to strap the floor so I am thinking I have to find the high point then level the entire floor based on that . Not sure how to get a straight level board to check 25 feet of width.. Can I make a 25x 3 at the high point level that then continue working in 25 x 3 sections till I finish the entire floor. I will have to cut my frame to whatever height gets me to level.
    This means that if my floor is 25 x40 width by length I am breaking that area into small segments rather than doing one pour. The first pour gives me a reference for the secoond pour and so on. Less scary.
    I plan to put down laminate on top of a foam layer is this ok or should I put down plywood first.

    I have an old (1890) home. Floor for the most part is thin layer of concrete over brick. One spot in floor is just brick and the low spot. Maybe 1 1/4 or so. Entire are about 25 x 12. May put vinyl planks or maybe just the floor after leveling. Should i find a spot and frame in and pour in multiple area? Any advice please

    • @MrYoucandoityourself
      @MrYoucandoityourself  7 років тому

      Hi Russ, I would say, to feel up low spots with regular concrete first, and make top coat with self leveling underlayment. Vinyl planks the best idea in this situation. But you have to ask your local specialists, please.

    Drying time is far to quick. i had this writings pasted further down on a 11 month old article. Please help you specified a 25 min time period for using the spike roller. This doesn't work for me at all. After even 5 min the spike roller will leave the spike holes in the compound.(mixed exactly as indicated on the bag) The compound start to dry way to quick. I'm down to doing very small areas at a time(far smaller sizes than what you are doing in your video). I even having a hard time with the straight edge to smooth it out, some times parts of the compound will break out(dry), it will also leave the straight edge marks behind in the compound(not smooth at all). I tried adding more water to the mix but its like you have mentioned it somewhere else, the compound is soft when it dries. i'm not finding your preferred used compound "Mapei". Not found here in Australia. I'm using www.bunnings.com.au/lanko-20kg-173-floor-leveller_p0966696. I have also tried the dearer lanko make, without any success. www.bunnings.com.au/lanko-20kg-133-pro-level-floor-leveller_p0966662. Trying to patch the floor after, leaves a 1 to 2mm holes or grooves around the patched layer. I tried feathering the edges with a trowel, but its to hard(dry) by that time. I am adding more water to these edges to try and feather in the edges. This finish i believe is not good enough for glue down vinyl planks. The job is turning into a nightmare. Any advice? Today i had another go i found a tile supplier selling Mapei novoplan 21 www.mapei.com/public/AU/products/Novoplan%2021%20SDS_6627-67_300816.pdf. I gave this a go today. Product is better, stays longer wet and was slightly easier to use. However the edges was still the same, i also bought a rubber floater, this helped feathering in the edges. But still had to wet these edges(as they are to dry by that time). It took me more than an hour to feather in one bag only. The last 1/4 in the bucket got to hard for further use. Please help?

Also the mixing barrel in your links are OOS/not avail in Canada. Would a plastic Brute 20gallon bin work? They also have this brute dolly that can lock onto the bottom of the bin which seems interesting. Or I see you use a metal can, I see those also in 20 gallon. After even 5 min the spike roller will leave the spike holes in the compound.(mixed exactly as indicated on the bag) The compound start to dry way to quick. I'm down to doing very small parts at a time(far smaller sizes you are doing at a time in your video) and having a hard time even with the straight edge to smooth it out, some times parts of the compound will break out(dry), it will also leave the level marks behind in the compound(not smooth at all). I tried feathering the edges with a trowel, but its to hard by that time adding more water to these edges to try and feather in the edges. This finish i believe is not good enough for glue down vinyl planks. The job is turning into a nightmare. Any advice?

    Why do you use foam to cover the gap between drywall and floor? Do you see any issues using duct tape?

    • @MrYoucandoityourself
      @MrYoucandoityourself  4 роки тому

      Hi Anna, this foam I used for keeping expansion gup between subfloor and walls. Duct tape just covers the gaps. If you put just little amount of self-leveling compound, yes you can use duct tape, but if it's going to the driwall I would recommend put foam. Does make sense?

    • @philindeblanc
      @philindeblanc 5 років тому

      self leveling is just a marketing word. It should be called Leveling compound. All liquids self level. But this is a cement and is thicker than water. It will need help to spread to all areas. If you pour a lot, it can self level on its own due to density, but for thin layers in flooring, it needs to be spread so its faster and covers areas before drying.
      So, yes, you need a edge, and even the spike roller to help it even out and release air gaps etc..

    you can mix the primer with the cement. no need to roll on. if it's a floating floor on concrete no primer is needed. it's more for gule downs and tile. is your joint stager 12 in?
    it should be no less then 12"
    I like to start the stair step with a 16" a 32" an a full board.

    • @NateBFlooring
      @NateBFlooring 7 років тому +2

      Jacob Garcia negative on the add the primer to the mix. Some may but follow all instructions on materials. The primer that is rolled on the floor is so the self leveling can stick to the substrate. We always use a stiff broom to apply so its worked in. rolling can cause inadequate coverage

    Parody - not to be taken seriously.
    FOOTPRINTS IN THE UNDERLAYMENT
    One night a man had a dream. He dreamed
    he was installing an underlayment with the LORD.
    Across the floor flashed bags of MAPAE from LOWES
    For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the underlayment:
    One belonging to him, and the other to LOE.
    When the last part of his underlayment was installed
    he looked back at the footprints in the underlayment.
    He noticed that many times along the edge of
    his floor, there was only one set of footprints.
    He also noticed that it happened at the very
    lowest and roughest part in his floor.
    This really bothered him and he questioned LOE about it:
    "LOE, you said that once I decided to follow
    you, you'd walk with me all the way.
    But I have noticed that during the most troublesome areas in my floor, there is only one set of footprints.
    I don't understand why when
    I needed you most you would leave me."
    LOE replied:
    "My son, my precious child,
    I love you and I would never leave you.
    During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
    Author unknown.
