I've been wondering about algae scrubbers too for a while and I may implement one later in the future if I can't control my nutrients in any other way. Thanks for the video!
Hey FishOfHex! i wanted to ask how much of the screen needs to be above the water vs below? I "think" i see half of yours IN the water and half above it? Does it matter? Or is it only important that the whole screen be wet from top to bottom?
Think I'll try the same. Why the switch from over flow to pump ? I like the over flow idea but not if there's a big down side like with return rate. Thanks good work.
I have the same or very similar led light and I get no algae growth where the blue colors shine on the screen. I read on a forum that you need 35 gallons per hour per inch of the screen width for best nitrate reduction. I don't like having splashing or spraying in my sump of the waterfall type scrubber so my mesh floats on the water surface while the pump washes water over it from the side. I'll be interested to see which of our designs works better.
Hey man I need help! About a week ago I added dry rock to the tank and got a small diatom bloom as expected. About 3 days ago I added some new sps and zoas to the tank and fed them reef roids. The day after I fed them the diatoms took off! I measured my nitrates and they are at 40! 1 week ago they were 2. How should I go about fixing this?
how old is the system? did you cure the rock before adding it? if not you are probably dealing with die off. Feeding the corals just added to the problem. I would up my water changes and stop feeding coral and cut back on how much you feed the fish until you get the nutrients under control
awesome build and good idea running a separate pump for flow
Thank You
Mad plumbing skills! Great job
Nice job. I like the way you repurpose items for your projects - very creative = )
Thank You, I always try to save money one way or another
awesome job buddy and your build is very easy to follow.
great DIY. thanks for documenting it all very clearly. I may have to try this soon if it works out for you.
Thank you and no problem
wow nice work man
Great video

no problem man they are easy to setup
Good idea Hex
Thanks
Interesting. Wish I had room in my sump to do this
This is awesome. I am definitely going to try this. Have you noticed a difference with your 120?
Nice.
What lights are you using?

Did this work out well?
I've got a question do you put your timer on for 18hrs for just the lights or lights and pump

Slick! Need an ATS for my reefer 250. Don't know how I can fit one down there.
Why not just put the netting in the sump with a light on it?

I'd be scared of touching anything in that cupboard hahaha you did a great job as always 🤗🤗
:)
do u think the scrubber is better than macro algae?
idk we will find out
How long is the lighting time for it
Great diy, what light are you using on it??
How'd this work for you
Not sure how long you have had this running, is there any sign of rust on the supports or the light conduit?
+Charles Adie video was posted the same days as install. No rust
Charles Adie i just used plastic pvc i think its more easy
Thanks for the video, do you prefer it to the chaeto?
How was your chemistry?
I have use both and honestly i get the same nutrient control.
Same nutritional control yes only you don’t have to spend a bunch on chaeto and you don’t have to worry about it dying
how long should you wait after bonding pvc together to use with tank water?
I wait maybe 30 min
are you concerned about splashing and salt creep with no acrylic on the sides of the algae scrubber
I dont see it being an issue with this type of setup. Its easy to remove to clean if needed.
Is it noisy? I'm interested in making one but my tank is in my room.
no its not
Is this setup quiet?
Yes no sound
I don't understand how growing algae can reduce algae in your display tank? I don't know how all this works
Growing alage where you want it reduces available foods for it go grow where you don't want it

How big is the pump that you put on this build? I think it was a great build and you really helped me. Thank you so much. 👍
