It is like a very private vision into a world, David's creation, that has gone so long ago. His voice is so iconic and familiar that it can only be him. Absolutely wonderful, thank you!
I sincerely wish that whomever purchased this from ebay however many years ago would somehow make the entire thing available to us all - these are just too wonderful and too wonderfully short!
Christ, why weren't the full versions of these included on "The Gouster" in the "Who Can I Be Now?" Boxed set I've just shelled out for. You know what?; these snippets sound so good, I don't even care about having to buy them separately as long as they are eventually released......... And soon!
Beefheart1 blimey mate I wish I had a 100 quid to spare! all I want for Xmas is the gouster why can't they release it separately? How much money does the CEO of David Bowie is dead Inc think the average fan has to spare?
The original multi-track master tape had been stolen years ago and posted for sale on ebay. An investigation occurred, the tape was tracked down, seized, and was handed back to Bowie or his management. So, the one to ask about releasing these in their entirety is Bowie himself. Perhaps for future addendums to "Nothing Has Changed"?
Part of the chorus of Shilling the Rubes has also surfaced. These songs were definitely recorded in their entirety, we could only hope Bowie would release them officially. How about a limited edition record store day release?
Like it! I knew 'After today' already, and that's great-and so of course is 'Young Americans', but I never knew 'Shilling the rubes' and 'I am a laser' both of which sound really interesting.
Thanks for posting. Somewhere around 1999, Eddie Kramer auctioned some multi track tapes from his work on David Live. this was on Ebay. As I understand it, they were sound check tapes and nothing he did showed up on David Live. I think the final selling price was around $1,000. Anyway, would be interested in hearing some of those.
So good to hear him experimenting with all this stuff for Young Americans. i love the comments too! "Then I can sack you!" Completely off his head off course! More please!
The second is called 'I am a Laser.' It was written by Bowie for the soul group he was putting together at that time called the Astronettes, or something of that sort, it was meant as a vehicle for his then-girlfriend and backing singer Ava Cherry. I believe you can now find this track on UA-cam if you search it. It was later rearranged/rewritten by Bowie and recorded as 'Scream Like a Baby' on Scary Monsters in '80.
the ghouster track seems to harken the explicit self referencing of the 'thin white duke' set to rolling piano line that has a the feel of tvc15. The proto young americans is fun, and the vocals are exploratory and yet awesome
+Baofeng Manual Eat shit. If you can't contribute then shut up yourself. Who are you to tell people to not ask questions in hope of expanding ones' knowledge base. Are you a preacher or a politician that you don't like people to find out information?
+Baofeng Manual That would explain your lack of intelligence, since you post assumptions. You are a low life and I am done with you. Go learn how to behave like a human.
It’s partly because of Bowie really wanting to get John Lennon on his album. They met and got on well so Bowie scheduled an extra recording session with Lennon, after the rest of Young Americans had already been recorded, and that’s how Fame and Across The Universe came about and they had to be fitted on to the album. Such a shame that Who Can I Be Now? had to be left of for them, that’s a superb track.
the 'music labels' release old stuff to get 'fans' to but them again and again - its money in their pocket. . . if you don't know this never get involved with the 'music' industries!!
I Am A Laser by Ava Cherry is exactly the track you are looking for. It would have been for the Astronettes album. ua-cam.com/video/gDidSNQyB24/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Wow! This is something I haven't heard before!! Thanks for the great music, David and thanks for posting La Galette Infernale!! I bet that's Bowie on sax, too!!! WHOA!! Listen to the vocal changes...ooohhhhh!
I have dabbled. And when you're on coke, you have more ideas. It can make you waffle on with depth about things you didn't even think you knew. I mean, there's a reason many students study on cocaine
If only many of these late '74-'75 fragments were developed furthur, then 'Americans' would've been a superior release... why 'It's Gonna Be Me' & 'Who Can I Be Now' were omitted is a crime... Why wasn't 'After Today' included on last year's box set??? Where's 'It's Gonna Be Me' w/strings???
Assuming I am correct, the very first track is a "long lost" track called 'Shilling the Rubes' that was demoed during the early YA sessions during the break in the Diamond Dogs tour in August '74. As far as I know this section is the only portion of the track yet released.
What... what the HECK is with that picture? Was Bowie trying to do an EMF experiment to determine whether God was trying to tell him to stop doing so much cocaine?
Fernando Graça he was abit everything at one time or another. In the later days especially during heathen period he wasn't religious in the traditional sense
I've said exactly the same thing on another channel! "If I sent a letter to IMAN, NEW YORK, AMERICA... would it actually be delivered to her?!! 🤔" Am desperate to have these Songs it's almost become an obsession trying to find them and at least gather them together on my Playlist... 🙄 Intuition is telling me that perhaps maybe on a definitive" Anniversary" of David just "going on ahead a little while" as it feels so much more comforting to think of it like that, to myself anyway 🙃 yeah heart still busted but so much worse for his Wife, Family and Friends... That they shall finally be set free (just like that Bluebird) for us to be able to buy at a reasonable price and cherish always 🤗
1) There never was an "entire Gouster album" - it was just an early working title for the Young Americans sessions. 2) What the record company is cynically describing as the "lost Gouster album" is really just some alternate mixes of Young Americans tracks put in a different order. 3) None of the demos heard in this UA-cam clip are contained in the new box set. #recordcompanybullshit
That's not entirely accurate; it is a cash grab, but "The Gouster" was finished and mixed by Tony Visconti in '74, Bowie decided to shelve it after he recorded "Fame" with Lennon and it morphed into "Young Americans". These tracks were never intended for the final album, and Visconti revealed a picture with the complete track listing as it is being released now.
According to your definition I may not be a "serious bowie collector" but I'm a life-long fan and I'VE never heard this. Be happy these gems are available for us to enjoy and quit acting like they're shiny bits of plastic for your crow's nest.
It's "I am a laser" that was eventually recorded and released by the Bowie endorsed Astronettes - featuring Bowie's backing singer and then girlfriend Ava Cherry. It was then re-imagined by Bowie as "Scream Like A Baby" on 1980's Scary Monsters album.

I admit I was disappointed when the first song ended lol
I sincerely wish that whomever purchased this from ebay however many years ago would somehow make the entire thing available to us all - these are just too wonderful and too wonderfully short!
This guy could never sing a wrong note. "period" .
Jesus h Christ this is amazing....all I want are full versions of these friggin' songs.
Of course it’s amazing It’s David Bowie❣️
Just fucking amazing
Christ, why weren't the full versions of these included on "The Gouster" in the "Who Can I Be Now?" Boxed set I've just shelled out for. You know what?; these snippets sound so good, I don't even care about having to buy them separately as long as they are eventually released......... And soon!

Matthew Bluhm l
Now WHY on Earth would they do that ?
When they can get everyone to buy the same stuff all over again ??
Wow. This is amazing.
See the laugh in the background just before the second track, it sounds exactly like the intro to Andy Warhol
Correct - this was a sampler of a few tracks posted by the seller to confirm authenticity
He never like his stuff being bootlegged ❣️ I would spend happy days looking for them…in Stockport in the late 70s🙃😊
holy crap im obsessed with these
I have loved Bowie since the late 60s, but never heard this one - thank you so much~~~
Part of the chorus of Shilling the Rubes has also surfaced. These songs were definitely recorded in their entirety, we could only hope Bowie would release them officially. How about a limited edition record store day release?
2:27 sounds like an early run through of "TVC15".
Definately!
randomviewer2007 do you know the name of the song at 2:27?
haha, I read that at exactly the same time it came in
.. spot on.
And then he gave I am a Laser to Ava Cherry (i am a laser is also a proto Scream like a baby)
Oh o o o oh... 😊
david has to release these sessions NOW
Like it! I knew 'After today' already, and that's great-and so of course is 'Young Americans', but I never knew 'Shilling the rubes' and 'I am a laser' both of which sound really interesting.
+Ian Stone 'I am a Laser' was later reworked into 'Scream Like a Baby' for Scary Monsters :)
You can also listen to Ava Cherry's version of Laser.

this just makes me sad.
He died too soon.
Stephanie Borns Oh bring up him dying, way to go....
Mike Girard How would you know you f***** idiot. Yeah, there’s a lot of great songwriters tearing it up right now.
Gosh,, I just love finding stuff he did..!!! :)
So good to hear him experimenting with all this stuff for Young Americans. i love the comments too! "Then I can sack you!" Completely off his head off course! More please!
Bloody hell, this is amazing. Throws new light on what he was doing at this period (which I didn't quite get then!).
Excellent ... hope my YT Bowie songs makes him smile from far far away.
Oh how I wish they'd open up the Bowie vaults and give us the full versions!

This I am a Laser is pretty awesome. Why didn't this make the album?
I think it became scream like a baby
It’s partly because of Bowie really wanting to get John Lennon on his album. Now THAT is rare! ;-) Thanks a lot!
His voice was so young, but I suppose that was youth.
Thanks for posting these rarities.
So im assuming the full versions of the songs don't exist outside of the record label's possession, right?
not true.... in a few months this album is slated to be released along with remastered versions of many other rarities
+Jayron's Studio these songs aren't on there
They just released "The Gouster"...... but left these songs off. Go figure. :(
Incredibile..meraviglioso

Они прекрасны!!!

What... what the HECK is with that picture? Was Bowie trying to do an EMF experiment to determine whether God was trying to tell him to stop doing so much cocaine?
It says "my crucifix" on the bottom lol. Was he religious in this time period? I wonder.
Nope.. always searching and grabbing this and that from all over! My understanding is that he first adopted the crucifix for protection from "evil".
Rebecca B I read the same thing. He always wore a cross from his early days
yes he was a bit religious, he even wrote Word on a Wing...
Fernando Graça he was abit everything at one time or another. In the later days especially during heathen period he wasn't religious in the traditional sense
We all need to get together and express our request for these to be released
