I think you would make a great guest on The Duran (Independent media covering politics 230k subscribers), giving a very unique take on the whole world crisis from a financial angle. Because two people splitting the bills is better than one trying to pay for it all. When I needed a new computer for work I found myself with a problem, after research I couldn’t find any computer companies not linked with suppliers involved in child force labour…And ended up buying a MacBook… Is it possible today to purchase/build a computer without supporting somehow child slavery?

I AM a wage slave. Once I graduated high school and started working for the low wages that they paid back in the 90s, I became an addict. I couldn't help myself and I didn't realize it until the last year Orso. I just was not okay with dedicating my life to something where I was going to be miserable doing the same stupid s*** everyday and so I felt I'd Ruined My Life by losing the one good job I had and started becoming an attic and beat myself up every single day just about. Except for butchering the name of my home country from "the Democratic Republic of Congo" to the "Dominican Republic of Congo," I think this video was spot on. Thank you for voicing out the abuse of modern-day slavery. I've been seeing a rise of people addressing these issues and that is a good step in the right direction. The previous administration in Congo had practically sold every sector of our economy to the highest bidder and shared the profit with himself, his family and cronies. A dictator through and through, but he has been ousted and hopefully will be tried and not die in peace. You might also want to have a look at Libya today where Africans are sold for less than $400 and are forced into slave labour. Would love to know about the financial implication and where this traces back to.

I’ve been thinking about this topic for some time now and I believe, that this is another way how to make us feel subconciously guilty, make us want more stuff and yet we all feel that there is this one of many dark shadows of our very comfortable western society. Our comfort, which is not good for us as we already know, stands on the pain of those we are neglecting as our attention has been directed to all of the distractions, things we are supposed to want, need, be, achieve...Every mass produced sh*t surrounding us holds this pain of those who made it, how can we be ever at peace this way?You are right, the power is in our hands. Do we really need all that stuff? Imagine buying a coat from a local tailor, who’s bought the fabric from somebody who made it from whool of sheep of a local farmer...etc...The coat would be expensive but last forever (you would’t need six more in different colors) and breathe peace into your mind atleast... Imagine having all of your stuff this kind of origin...❤️We do have the power!!!

The main issue about slavery is: detachment.
Majority of people believe they are not contributing to the issue because they bought their product in a store in their own country. And "no way my country would allow slave work, we have laws against it".
So the majority of people funding slavery believe it is not their fault.
The other small part of the people believe slavery is indeed happening and "shame on X and Y company for doing so" but they still buy their products because they believe "it is the company's fault but there is nothing I can do to stop slavery and they sell millions of X products, so the 1 product I bought will not stop slavery. So why should I suffer?."
Then there is the very very small percentage of people who discover their favorite brand is a slave-supporter and they go "I will never EVER buy from X brand again!".
HOWEVER, even this small percentage are not aware that, even though they don't buy products from, let's say for sake of example Nestlè, they still buy Coca-Cola and Colgate - which are 50%/50% joint ventures, or Haagen-Dazs and pet products because they believe Nestlè is only about Chocolate and Bottled Water.
I am glad there are still people, like yourself, not afraid of shedding light into people's mind (and pockets) about how deep does the root go. As you mentioned once before in one of your videos "Follow the 'root of all evil' (the money)".

The ‘detachment’ you’re speaking of is very real and so deeply embedded in our psyche largely because of something called the industrial revolution some 200 years ago. Mass production of commodities became possible when labor (real people) where brought from the farming fields into factories with appalling working conditions. A complete transformation of society and psychology occurred and we lost the sense of how a product is produced. We quickly learnt that if we have money enough we are ‘entitled’ to anything the industry can provide for us. Money became the ticket to irresponsible behavior, not only by the very rich, but everybody was taught that if you got the money you’re free to act and buy anything. Money became the ‘carte blance’ for any irresponsible behavior by anybody who owns it. It has gotten so far down the rotten rabbit hole that today money equals virtue in some societies. We hear nonsense like -“If so and so is rich he must be a good and upstanding person.”
The big multinational corporations of today are just tapping into that same principle that was firmly established several hundred years back. The only difference is the sheer scale of it’s devastating effects, not only on a direct human level but also on the environment as a whole. The psychological ‘detachment’ you speak of is a fundamental ingredient for this whole destructive pattern of operation to be possible at all. Our role, as human beings, is to become completely aware of our own actions and detachment from both causes and effects is going against all what humanity should be doing. Very soon we will have to face up to this catastrophic behavior anyway. It destroys everything in its way. The rich may manage to ‘buy them some more time’ yet but soon no-one will be spared and the consequences will hit hard. Nothing goes unnoticed in this world. What goes around, -comes around.

Even if we were simply able to get people to stop supporting slave labor unnecessarily (such as not constantly buying the newest and greatest tech products from slave-supported companies), we could see a marginal improvement. The risk is that some people will see this information and then say, "Well, it's all terrible. There's nothing I can do." Doing less, buying less, is always a choice.

There is such cognitive dissonance (at best) with rich people/business owners who somehow think that a pittance paid for hard, unethical labor is just fine. Somehow, the truth that these are our *brothers* and *sisters* is lost in the name of profit. Thank you for this video.

If only that was all that is lost in the name of profit. Too many people fail at finding their own path in life and pick the default one offered by our lovely modern society, consume and you will be happy. If consumerism wasn't a promoted concept and people didn't "need" to change their stuff (devices, cars, clothes, etc.) so frequently because of unnecessary or minor upgrades, the concept of profit could even be a positive one. There's nothing wrong in offering a good or a service that society needs or even wants and profiting from that. However, everything is wrong with creating a fake demand out of thin air through aggressive advertising, basically abusing certain weaknesses in the human psychology, for the sake of profiting. Either way, as much as we like to blame the people doing these things, at the end of the day it is us paying them. Stop consuming and many of the world's problems will be solved.

"Slavery" is a natural progression of our enslaved beliefs. The thought, "I need this thing/ person to feel happy/ be enough." stems from the thought "I am not enough" / "Life is not enough". Once believed, this notion is acted upon and we become enslaved to desire, greed, lust, depression, hatred, jealousy, and can be moved at will by those who seek to profit from our self-imposed slavery.
If you wish to end slavery, end your enslaved beliefs. Your actions will follow. And then the world.
Everything that is needed for life to exist and flourish is present, and gifted naturally and freely.
Beliefs that more is needed are lies and will enslave the believer to toiling to find this "more" that does not exist.
    E v e r y t h i n g exists > therefore, nothing is needed.

You could have presented real cases of slavery, instead of a list of names of poor countries, that can not defend themselves here. Modern slavery can be found in every country among the poor (and the rich). And you could have talked about modern financial slavery in rich countries happening right now, which is much more widespread. Instead you mixed things together, that are not equal, such as forced labor and child work. Child work has many aspects and I likely lost my wife and mom of my kids, for health reasons, because she did dangerous phosphate digging at the age of 16. But she was never forced to and had options. And she would never bother about modern financial slavery (and poverty) when buying gadgets - even after she did that type of brutal slavery for 12 years herself with 6 days a week 12 hours a day non seating (electronic components, never being forced). But that does not mean, that I don't have to bother. But I bother even more about the suffering around me in my rich country and it is in fact about modern slavery. For example big or rich companies abusing the population for financial reasons, controlling media and governments (and as a last step - each one of us). And teaching us what is right and what is wrong and who is good and who is bad. This is the actual slavery happening right now above our own heads. And some of them are still using the words freedom and democracy for it, which is blasphemy.

"Actions definitely speak louder than words" 100% agree WITH another caveat! I'd say that for the majority of governments & big business, their "good" actions aren't really all that great. What do I mean?
For instance, years ago the US government said how they were treating those effected by the war in Kosovo. Being that my husband was an infantry soldier there, he knew that the army medical doctors were using the Kosovo people more as "practice" than actually doing it out of the kindness of their heart. Plus, there's the whole "win with hearts & minds" bit.
Even now, US and other governments sending weapons to Ukraine in support. Yes, some are new- like the kamikaze drones. And most are weapons they've had stock piled for years because our own military no longer uses them- at least on a large scale. I'm talking about 113s troop transport and 50 cal machine guns. That was shown on a recent national news here in the US- Ukrainian soldiers having difficulty because the weapon kept jamming. Again my husband pointed out that the 50 cal has to be "dialed in" after every other shot!
So yes, go beyond their words and look at their actions. And then REALLY look at their actions again. ✌️

i've argued this point for a long time. Slavery never went away. Its been labelled and re-packaged in numerous ways. It's still as ever present as ever, from literal slavery, to indentured slavery, to wage slavery, to economic slavery. And ofcourse capitalism is the key culprit behind it in modern times. This is also why i fully expect a world war III in the future, because our global culture, even in the lauded "enlightened" western world, is terribly primitive and hasn't really changed since the classical period of history.

If I came and tried to enslave you, just how would I do it if you didn't wish to be a slave? If you fight back, I couldn't do it, could I? So slave means helpless. It also means stupid. Stupid people are very easily manipulated. So let's just look at things properly. If you are smart, "that in itself is a very missunderstood concept" Then you could avoid slavery. Or am I just blowing smoke? If you think going somewhere to work for a wage is slavery, It's not. It's just that you were too lazy to be on the other side.

@@russellaustin4988 you thinking is very simplistic, on both politics and economics. You would do well finding out, and hopefully enjoying reading about the last 2000 years of history. While it may well be that our initial states are predatory, they are in equal parts co-operative. And typically it is the few predators that screw up real community in search of self-indulgence. And politically and economically speaking we have not progressed since classical times. Ultimately you must choose for yourself what sort of world you want to create, and it seems you are happy with the predatory state that it is in? but if that is the case, don't kid yourself you are civilized, and by that i mean a 'human being'. What separates humans from animals is our choice to stop being animals.... which is actually possible. animals don't have that choice. Why would you choose to remain an animal if you had the choice to be more?

Excelent ! Now that you did this, get your research deeper and look into the "spiritual slavery"... the aspects of the everlasting war for the mind of men, between our Creator and His antagonists. The clash of mindsets between the Law of Love by which we've been created and the laws of force, or the laws of the powerful, by which we all are increasingly being coerced... Why is there such a war ? How each of us take part on it ? How our Creator solved the controversy and offered us a escape ? Why and how we must give up everything, specialy the attemps of saving ourselves by our own merits, to be accepted as His ?
Our Creator is not behind a veil anymore. He never did anything without anouncing it beforehand. God bless you !

We blamed here those western companies and us, the customers, for endorsing forced labour. ...Can we think for a moment about the local schemes of corruption and disregard of the rights of others in the countries where this is hapening?
Can’t speak for Bangladesh and Eritrea first hand, but coming from another (a little less) chaotic country I can imagine the local crap going on.
I’ve passed the point of feeling merely sorry for these situations. It seems to me that foreign retrieval of the scene would not be enough for the problem to go away: there would be still forced labor and those who can would still steal from those who can’t.
I don’t think that our wokeness would allow for further intervention and “telling people from other coulturrs how to live their life” either.
So I’m left with being angry at the lack of responsability in people in my country and, by extension, in a way, locals who organize forced labour south Asia.
I’m talking top to bottom! Quick example: my neighbour participates in human trafficking. He drives pregnant women to the neighbouring country so that she can sell her kid, and he gets a percentage. I can’t go to the police because he proudly told me about it on the street, and he is more likely to intervene on me than the police on the traffiking. Is it the politician’s fault? Western governments? McDonald’s? Fuck no. We chose to live this way and we deserve our misery.
I don’t know how it is in countries where slavery is going on...I am just reminding everyone that it is partially also a responsability of those who live there. Top to bottom.
Disclaimer: again, not saying that foreign companies and their target groups are not fueling it.

You're right, but modern slavery is not just that. And let me tell my point of view. We are actually living in the digital era. And Silicon Valley has become a huge international tech cartel, selling their 'tech drugs'. And not just tech companies. And as the title says, we are living in a slave planet. I'm a software developer, its a beautiful job, but guess what, at the end of the day, i develop software that runs either on mac or windows, or ios or android. And these operating systems are owned by the tech giants, and you use their products and their services as a developer or as a user or both. And in a certain way, i feel like dependent on them. They have all the market, and building software, rather if it is a independent developer or a company, you are building software that runs on their platforms, 'filling their pockets'. Of course you will got paid very well, but it's nothing in comparison to the amount of dollars these corporations earn. Now we're talking about metaverse, the new digital frontier, quantum computers, and super artificial intelligence, but the main players are still the same. They don't want actually to lose their power and prestige, and the grip they have on the people. Nothing changes, everything just becomes more sofisticated. Having said that, my point is, there are different types of slavery. We are all slaves of something. And yes, it's our fault. We created a 'bubble of slavery'. Which is really sad to know, because we are a race that could do miracles, we have the potential to be a great species, to fly to the stars, to become an interstellar society, but we're still stuck in the same stupid and boring habit: self-destruction. If we want to build a better future and become a better society, we have to evolve into next step of human evolution. But I don't know, maybe humanity is doomed, and sooner or later it will collapse on its own mass of crap. I still have faith though...cheers...

I've believed that for a long time. But also in different ways. For instance the minimum wage or just recently the virus restrictions. Or the qualifications to raise and supply marijuana. Or to start any other business. When slavery went out of fashion in the 1870s. Those people still had to have food and shelter. That was basically the minimum wage then. So if you look at it in the same perspective. Companies are even better off today then before. In the early 70s, minimum wage was$1.65 an hour. That's very little but the cost of everything was much less. 67 Camaro was about $3,600.00. A Snickers bar was a quarter. And so on. Then Free Trade. The 80s when all the American jobs went to Mexico, China and Korea. That gave the companies still here the ability to control the wages here.
So today with all the automation and the unreal profits of monopolistic companies. They are also guaging the pricing with unexplainable amounts. So has slavery went anywhere or have the oligarchs and loved government just went about in a different way? Unlike the slaves of the past. One average worker of today can not afford food and shelter. Even if the wages were doubled it would not be enough to live on. The people are not counted as unemployed after the unemployment runs out. Their just forgotten. Slavery is what it used to be. It is hidden in the numbers.

I mean sometimes I spend 1/2 month making my own blanket, but if it means I make my own stuff - like grow my own food, so no slave hands are a part of it - then that's what matters. It's such a shame when vegans (seen by the hypocrisy of the Apple company - the fruitarian obsession) want to abolish animal slavery that they neglect that most plant foods come out of slave hands. I mean crops were why there was slavery in the US South anyway for the most part. Humans are animals too - we need to care about every animal on the planet, not just non-human ones! The best part is that plants are the easiest to grow at home, so there's no excuse to not buy chocolate, blood vanilla, blood avocado, etc. just to stick our heads in the sand about it!

You certainly picked an interesting topic! Slavery should really be defined clearly or else we are just talking about low wages . If the choice is that someone works for $5 a day or has nothing ... is that slavery or are the employers saving lives? If I do a job but get paid just a fraction of what I had hoped for - is that slavery?I respectfully remind you that about 130 years ago nearly everyone existed on less than a dollar a day in today's money - is that slavery? The sad truth is that if you want affordable things in the West from your phone to your bed sheets or car tyres then somebody has to work for way way less than you do for you to be able to get the goods- it is just plain old maths . If they are forced to do this work - then they are slaves , if they can walk away they they are not . That is my opinion though I doubt it I will be a popular one .
