True story: I was at this race...so do you all notice how the stands are mostly empty? Well there was actually a lot of people there that day and the Pony kept pulling hard to the right on the launch. He had to let out a few times or else he would of been crossing lanes, so they made a few adjustments to the car and it still wasn't wanting to hold the track. So what they finally figured out was that if all of us in the bleachers went down to the end of the track and stood in a big crowd behind the sand trap fence the Mustang would head straight for us as long as the throttle was pinned 🤪

@@expatrocious You can tell it's the other car as the turbos have no sync whatsoever with the camera car's RPM, gauge or audio, and then follows the other car as they launch.

@@serrael-182 Considering the guy had a chute pop out the rear, I'd say going that fast is realistic. Plenty of "big" cars going extremely fast. Likely a full drag build, not just a modified car.

Left lane was about 3.5 seconds faster, so low 8s. He also had a chute, so a purpose built drag car.
3.5 seconds faster would be low 7's which seems accurate.

That was a family sedan, it needed roll cages and a chute to go faster than 150 mph and under 9 secs. That’s the rules.
This wasn't a 1/4 mile race, it was 1/8 mile - left lane completed in ~4.5 seconds, judging from when the chute was deployed. Right lane came in around 6.4 @ 115mph. If right lane hadn't let off at 1/8 mile, probably would have hit high 9's in the 1/4 mile.
R. Brown, I have a 2002 Camaro that requires a chute and has an 25.5e chassis cert but is not a dedicated drag car. Its just fast.

If you slow the speed down to .25 and pause right around 0:17 seconds the body frame looks to be a Buick national. But under the hood is probably what drives the Uss Starship enterprise.

No shit this triggers my memories to a Buick National years ago, I’d say 2003 or 2004, at the Union Grove strip. This silver sleeping beast with limo tint was laughed at on the first couple of runs. I told my buddy I saw the teams tent and trailer and saw a twin turbskie. Firsts runs were mid 8s, they were still gapping everyone at that. The sun went down, a horrible classic car accident had happened, RIP driver but times were delayed. So the fog is creeping. Union Grove is in farm country in South East Wisconsin. After the crash we thought teams will tune different to adjust for moisture but people guess what team tuned it up? The Buick national. We are 10 runs from end of show jet truck car shows. I see a fucking beast Nova brumbrumbrumping up, the lady was running mid 5s and low 6 all night. Next I see the Silver bullet quietly pull up. Then, fuck your ears, the bastard two steps his warming and it sounded like a tornado and machine gun fire. The crowd was legit and no one has left. We all turn to each other and mumble about the National like wait wtf? Tree turns and fuck the Nova, guy was at the quarter before the nova hit 8th. The fuckin National ran a 5.49. It lives rent free in my mind since that day. I hope that team went on to build even more spectacular weapons.
@@krackajay1638 it is 100 percent minus a few aero changes in rear, it’s clear as day a 95 or 96 by the plate area design on its own. Plus we all know what a Fox body twin Turbskie can do with the right set up and tune. I’m just blown away by the constant 4 wheels on the ground launch.

All this Audi talk... I used to race a 1990 Audi Quattro 90 20v in SCCA autocross around the rainy wet Seattle area. (That's 4 valves in each of the 5 cylinders, my friends. What a sound!) I put some Yokohama street tires on that thing and blew up the PAX index. The Z06's and Boxsters were not a fan of that little red coupe.
That thing is a dedicated modified drag car. That would beat even a Model S Plaid, and a Rimac Nevera.

He didn't deploy the chute before the finish line. This was an 1/8th mile run on a 1/4 mile track. So the "finish line" was actually just half of the track. As a side note, as a car guy I have always DESPISED the idea of 1/8th mile races. Everything about it is lame and pathetic.

I rewatched this at .25% speed, focusing on the 2 second internal where you went from 0-62. During that period, he passed you right around the one second mark and by the 2 second mark was gaining considering speed. Of course, I don't know the exactly distance he gained, but by the length of his car and the parking lot to to the left I can generalize the distance he pulled ahead of you in the second second. My guess is the mustang was between 40 to 60 feet ahead of you. On the low end, that means he traveled 40 feet further than you in a 1 second interval. Based on your acceleration of 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, I estimate he was going fast a fuck boy.

V8 powa is correct, that was only an 1/8 mile pass. His system must calculate the 1/4 mile time off of ET and speed at the 1/8.
Count the timing blocks.
1st block is the 60 foot block.
2nd is the 330 foot block.
3rd is the 660 mph block.
4th is the 660 ET block.
4 timing blocks means 1/8 mile race.
You need 7 timing blocks for a 1/4 mile pass. 5,6 & 7 are missing from this video.
5th is the 1000 foot block.
6th is the 1320 foot mph block.
7th is the 1320 ET block.
Still both are fast cars. Drag cars setup for 1/8 mile are geared to accelerate crazy fast.

The drag surface is super sticky. It’s prepared with a glue-like compound. You see videos where people try to walk across it and their shoes come off and just stay on the ground. He could never do that on the street. He’d still be hella fast, but he wouldn’t have the traction to put a fraction of that power down.
Tire and suspension setups have come a long ways especially on a prepped track... Drag radials are getting almost as fast as big tires these days

Yes, I realize it was a test and tune or whatever it's called at your local track. I just wanted an excuse to, first, tell him that his video is a great look at what a fast car can do compared to a purpose built drag car, and second, to show how dumb some excuses are from people that can't admit somebody else was faster.

It is hard to understand until you experience it for the first time. OCIR 1974. Our small block , 3200# 55 Chevy bracket car ran 11.92 @ 112 all day long. Super consistent for a 4 speed car. At about 10pm I was lined up next to a 32 bantam roadster. I left on him and did not see him until about 800 feet. He went by me like I was tied to a stump. It was a 10.50 car. It gets your attention.

I got a video of me doing a 1.51 sixty foot with my rear tires. My front tires were hanging in the air for 200 feet. The car next to me was at the 330’ mark by the time I came down. He really took the wind out of my fenders.

But I dare to say very few have been sub 10 secs from a dig in comparison. That pass would have been in the realm of I dare say 8 secs. If you think that takes no skill - or specialized Engineering… I’m afraid you don’t know what’s really involved.

He pulled his chute and my guy was doing 118mph before he let out. My guess, that dude pulled a 1.18 60 foot 1.75(0-60mph)and pulled the chute at 175 before crossing the ¼mile roughly 8.6 secs.

Yeah there's only a difference of ~4s between a dragster and that mustang, but a 4s quarter vs an 8s quarter is an incredible difference. That mustang in an 8s quarter is still trapping at high 100's (like 180mph or something), but a 4s dragster is trapping at 300mph. It's an entirely different league despite their being only a 4s difference. You're comparing 800hp to 11,000hp.
As the time goes lower, the speed required to get there goes up exponentially.

I was in Baton Rouge at the Cajun Nationals track years ago. My friend asked if I was going to race. I replied my car wasn't ready. He said race your van, the one I towed my car with. So I did. In time trial I went to the line with a Super Comp 8.90 rail in the other lane. The tree was set to our times, him 8.90 me 20.30 I left first hammer down, kept watching in the mirror, when I was about 200 feet from the finish I thought he must have broke, so I let of just in time to see the puff of smoke out of his zoomies. I floored it again. He beat me to the finish.

This reminded me of the first time I went to the drag strip to race my little stock 350Z.
Guy pulls up next to me and I could no longer hear my own car!
I darn near burnt the clutch out on the launch because I confused my shift points with his and was red lining to the max trying to keep the paint from being sucked off my car!
It was insane!
Some times you just gotta know when to shut yours off and enjoy the show.

You should never take a stock car to the strip unless you aren't planning on racing anyone and just looking to get your stock times 99.9% of the people racing are not stock.
