@@hoohoohoblin it says in another tutorial not to leave slack in the cable when tightenning though hm..
Great video.I'm new to disc brakes,my stable of steeds include ancient rod brakes, drums, side pulls and v-brakes. Your video is clear and precise and no silly disco music! Thankyou sir.
You’re welcome
Just purchased an MTB and bikes nowadays are way much different than bikes years ago as far as I can remember. Only had rim brakes before but after spending a lot of time outside with my new bike, the brake pads have worn out, needed to change them and your video is just as informative and educational. Thanks heaps.
You’re welcome. I’m glad I could help.
2:25 I had only pulled the cable down and then tightened the cable holder, but the brake lever had no resistance when pulled. After seeing this video I tried pushing the arm up a bit and then tighten, like what you did. and it worked! So glad I found this video. Thank you so much!

It's so funny...I have been able to do this numerous times with my hydraulic brakes, but I need a video to work on the simplier mechanical ones....Thank you for your help. If I can't stop, then I shouldn't be making videos....Well..........hmmm
Thanks.
Same here....then after all my efforts dealing with the pads..it was the cable that was slipping. I pulled it extra tight and hopefully that works...Loctight next

I have no brand or anything on my brakes but ordered pads that looked the same shape and I'm hoping for the best we don't have bike shops in my town
good video 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Thanks
Hello thank you for the video it gave me some clear information, why was it that you had to screw the pad adjuster out again? Thanks
To give it a little bit of clearance so it doesn’t rub on the disc. But it is still close enough to be effective when you put on the brakes.
awesome !
Thanks!
I love disc brakes
Thanks
You’re welcome
Can i just remove the cotter pin to change the pads without doing all the other steps?
Well done 👏
Other people do drama
Thanks
why r we not talking about the round pabs

What kind of tiers are u using on that bike?
WTB Thickslicks. 27.5 x 1.95
Careful with the pliers
If the back pad is designed not to move then how does it apply pressure to the disc when the brake lever is squeezed?
the other pad squeezes the disc into the back pad.
1:53 that screw wont move on my bike can someone help please
Do you know why my front brake handle doesn’t return back after I let go ? It seems to get stuck and doesn’t spring back all the way
Either of the return spring is broken or the cable is stuck.
Hi, is this the video that you were implying? I was the guy who asked about my front break not working.
Yes. In your comment, it sounded like maybe the cotter pins that hold the brakes in the caliper were missing, so they were moving around.
dude, what happened to your spokes?
Salt from the ocean!!!! I’m glad this bike has an aluminum frame. Everything else is rusting away from riding at the beach.
What do you do if you've done all these steps and they rub?
If they are rubbing, you will have to release a little bit of tension so that there is more space between the pads and the disks, or maybe you have a bent disc.
@@hoohoohoblin so release the cord a bit right?
my pads look different like round whats with that
Some manufacturers make them round. The process of changing them and adjusting them should be the same though.
I've seen people adjust this part ( imgur.com/a/0GHnkP3 ), I think it also affects the brake slightly but I'm not sure? Could you explain what it does and if it's different from the stopper thing we adjust on the handle?
It does the same thing as the one on the brake lever. You can screw it out to create more tension on the cable.
@@hoohoohoblin cheers
Kot-ter pin?
Everything's rusted up pretty well....
Yes sir. I do most of my riding at the beach, and all of the salt and moisture are rusting it to bits. I’m glad at least I have an aluminum frame on my bike, so that won’t rust.
i got the poor man s pad
I'll just remove my whole front brakes.
I don't like brakes on my mtb dirtbike.
Good video, but he could have use proper tools
