You cannot change your weapons without consequences. At the beginning this is true, but progression materials are time gated so you won't be switching after deciding on a build.
@@enzos6059 I'm not exactly sure. You sink your old weapons into your new weapons but I'm not sure if you can fuse a sword into a wand for example. The real problem is the skills and weapon mastery. All of the skills/passives/masteries that you level won't work for new weapons. Those upgrade books are limited through story and time-gated stuff. Basically if you want to change weapons you're going to pay real money or be set wayyyyy back.
@@mufasafalldown8401 Thank you for clarifying. Now i'm wondering how much we can get a feel for each build without spending any of the skill books you mentioned. I'm hoping it's enough so we could decide early on.

It's just frustrating to see that this style of "weapon-type" combat really forces niche combinations of weapons in order to function. It comes off a lot like the pitfalls of New World combat, but with more restriction for functionality, although time will tell. I usually play an Arcane Warrior archetype, so pairing a Staff and Greatsword or Staff and Sword, straight outta Dragon Age or D&D, and when implemented in a game like this, becomes more a detriment to survival and the overall flow of combat given how those weapons are individually designed. This game is definitely unique in its weapon implementation, but its frustrating to see that the two weapons I would most enjoy suffer from the same issue or overlap considerably in functionality, which either forces me to pick another weapon to be more viable in PvE / PvP or face a straight loss of utility when compared to a game like ESO or a Souls-game where its not only viable, but can be built to fit your own playstyle. New World definitely suffered from this exact problem at launch, and has since come around in making alternative weapon combinations more viable given how specific stats focused and supported specific weapons, making the interchanging of weapon types a pitfall if they didn't fall into the same stat block like Str, Dex, Int, etc. Hopefully the abilities within a weapon tree allow for more customization or work in tandem with status effects across weapon styles to compensate in T&L.
I agree but it does seem like there is much more complexity and build diversity within the different weapon combos. It also helps having access to more than 3 skills at a time. New World was way too simple.
