@@thedevil5544 Plenty of people are still using this since the sound Quality is Excellent and even if they have newer "better" equipment too, as I do, I still use mine since just the ZOOM modulations are Superb as is most everything else. For maintaining skills WITHOUT INVOLVING A DAMNED COMPUTER this is more than good enough. This or a Peavey VYPYR VIP make amazingly Superb practice tools as does the light and handy little VOX Adio that is well engineered and has a BIG and Wide room filling Stereo effect in it too.
I would ABSOLUTELY buy this again Brand New and even without the Tubes but if it were easier to replace the Tubes, well now,THAT would make this Beast perfect. Plus, these days with such smaller chipsets ect. it could probably be made even lighter or smaller in size if Zoom wanted to.
I plugged mine in for the 1st time in over a decade, I couldn't believe what I was able to dial in with this ancient unit knowing what I know now through experience over what I was able to dial in back then! IMHO...this unit has stood the test of time especially when considering I bought a new "blemished" unit on eBay for $175 back then.
Ah yes...never underestimate the old or "obsolete" stuff that can sometimes surpass the newer "better" things that maybe aren't truly better at all but just different, cheaper or not even as good.
Great video, Paul always gives great reviews. I've played Digitech, Boss, Line 6 and compared to Zoom, Zoom blows them all away hands down. The quality of the sound both live and in recording is stellar: nothing comes close!
This is the best pedal in the world by far. Kicks every over-electric piece line 6 crap in the face. The ui is awesome, the features are so unique, its easy to use, its got 2 tubes, and 3 banks of patches each holding 50 patches. And each patch has a second chanel so you've really got twice that. The z-pedal is great to use as I can do so much more per effect and its built like a tank, it never has and never will let me down on stage. I am unlikely to ever want another pedal.
you know.. at the end of the day it comes down to what you like and think is easier to use. I haven't messed around with a Zoom but I think if you're after some weird sounds this is the pedal. If you're looking for a vintage sound go with Line 6.. looking for a digital sound that's good for modern rock go with Boss or Digitech. I remember when PODxt Live and Boss GT-8 came out I was really confused on which one to get! Both of them had features that the other did not have. Both were really good.
Actually G9.2tt is easy to use after spend around 2 years discovering its hidden secrets. I hope to see its upgrade (I don't mean the G5) with a thoughtful "User Manual" and a real 4CM with stereo return (5CM)
This was the times when Zoom engineers was very creative,....i still use the Zoom S2t,.. and it sounds epic,....I did not know about the G9.2tt until now,...=)
i think zoom g9, i have one, and it is really versatile, i have played with a boss me 50, line 6 hp 400, and i notice that the zoom g9 have a great distortion because the idea of the power is the two valves!!!
@marviosantos one quick note for ppl who are interested the cab simulator is mainly for direct recording if you are useing this pedal though you're effects loop of your rig turn it off and you will be rewarded also this is a very transparent pedal so if you are just starting out it will magnify all your mistakes
@NixxerJixxerWixxer the distortion on this unit IS analog, thats the great thing about it. it actually uses it's 12ax7 tubes to create overdrive/distortion. that's more analog than the distortion pedals you probably think of, without tubes.
I also tried both and I stay with the Zoom I have a g9.2tt unit and the only thing I can complaint is that's not red as the b9 unit for bass, also a friend of mine has a b9 unit and both are just incredible good toys. but the thing is that depends on your style or what you need at the moment of playing guitar... I tried the boss in a store, but a friend haves it and we tried both side by side and I can just say that the Zoom has a real rich evil boost that comes out of the tubes!!
The main reason this pedal is superior to all others in the class is because it processes signal with 32-bits instead of 24. That extra 8 bits is huge- 2^24 = 16,777,216 vs 2^32 = 4,294,967,296. The main problem with digital effect pedals is that a ton of sound information is lost in the conversion from analog to digital, so this discrepancy represents a much more accurate and detailed reproduction of the original signal.
This unit actually sounds really good but you have to be ready to tweak and go deep with it. Since its actually got tubes you'll be suprised how authentic it can sound...this isnt just dsp. Try it, for the price its awesome!
The ZFX3 processor is an Analog Devices chip. Companies should give credit to silicon manufacturers, much like Line6 does. And by the sound of this "console" the ZFX3 is a blackfin processor, which is not meant to be used for heavy sound processing.
@assgroos I'm sorry my friend but the Line 6 dl4 is still a digital multi fx pedal, it's a modeler delay "stomp box", basically, it doesn't have analog response.
pedals almost always sound better.. but Zoom are top class in this field..they are underated in my opinion.. they produce fantastic gear at great prices and the sounds are usually far better than boss or line 6 and the rest. They are always leading the field in price, features and sounds
you make a good point :P what i like about this pedal, the expression pedal, which looks awesome! but changin to a wah or volume also a huge plus. not to mention its like 100 dollars cheaper than the boss. Something about the boss, seems like an old man pedal. if that makes sense. can the zoom g9 be programmed from the pc via usb? like can i download patches onto it?
its called "pitch" and you can get it in 2 ways: 1) buy digitech whammy (google it by imamge) 2) get ANY multi-effect, with a expression pedal aff course :) (like korg AX5G or zoom G1X) the expression pedal looks just like a wah but its on multi-effect so you can use it however you want! it can be volume control, wah, gain, delay and also as pitch-shift. anyway, you dont need that huge multi-pedal thing, just buy a smaller one or just the digitech whammy! any questions?
@Pathvoid sounds like your compressor is up to high also if you're running it with the znr it just squeezes the signal too much and won't let the signal breathe for some reason the default on most settings both are on keep workin with it
is depends what you want. Boss has digital sound with a lot of effects, but the sound of the zoom is much more "real" than boss's. It's up to you. I have the Zoom g9.2tt and i love it.
The horizontal pedal, functionally, is the same as any other pedal except the movement. It has a minimum setting, a maximum setting, and sweeps between the two... just like a standard pedal. It's not different, really, then having 3 expression pedals on the board, but to save space they merely put it in a different format.
I have one I don't use anymore, I wonder what would be the price point of this unit with maybe 3 hours of use. It is perhaps the last of the muscle effect board
It's not plastic. The buttons are steel. I should say the switches are stell. I've had a G2 for 7 years and gigging it steady with no issues but had to solder the ac jack once.
I have one and it's certainly, the best pedal board of Zoom. Be aware the preset are as usual overdosed of effect like all this kind of stuff. The right way is to turn off all effects and learn by listening all the given possibilities. A simple preamp like SB crunch and Equalizer is the beginning of a good crunch, a little bit of Chorus and its really good. we must take a long time to test all possibilities and tune with our own taste, guitar, amp, ... This is not for beginners !
Yeah, found that out about 5 minutes later. Crazy price. I was hoping for it for Christmas. I have a Boss ME-50 though. I'm pretty happy with it. It would be horrible for live use, which is what I need
@xngr I don'tknow what your buddy did to his pedal but I have had mine 2.5 years with zero problems and have giged with it droped it and just abused it in general and it is built like a tank not to mention it has one feature that you don't find in alot of pedals transparency it does require alot of tweaking to find your sound but patience will be rewarded
@Pathvoid sounds like your compressor is up to high also if you're running it with the znr it just squeezes the signal too much and won't let the signal breathe for some reason the default on most settings both are on
Both have a dim light. I don't really see if the lighting changes or not while turning the knows, although the sound changes a lot. be careful with the left one, as it controlls the general gain, and as a consequence, it changes all the parameters from the patches. I use solid state know at 0 volume. On the right, the knobs are at the end of the chain, and it could overdrive the input of the amp. You always must keep an eye on every volume of every effect in the chain. watch my videos, I play 1
hey man, finally, who's got the g7.1ut and plays some heavy music:))i'm thinking of buying it too(the g7.1ut)but i'm not sure if it can handle some as i lay dying tones?:PAlso i'm thinking of buying this effects processor OR the digitech rp500.what do you think, which is better?thanks in advance
ive had mine about 2 and a half years now and its been great! ive never done half of the stuff this guy has done but i sure am now lol....and yer after about a year and a half the tuning switch got a bit stiff and wouldnt work properly for me, but i just opened it up and sprayed some wd40 in it and i was fine. not a problem! the best piece of kit you can get for the money in my opinion...im savin up for extra expression peddals thogh as i need an analogue dalay and it only has digital :)
@VIZZICKS I never even said anything about using a Crate, that was another guy - so much for being able to read. And by the way, I'm trying to help people too by telling them to get some other multi-fx unit. We even tried running it through a high quality speaker impulse response (i.e. those things that make almost anything sound good) and it still had absolutely no definition and vanished instantly in any kind of mix, unlike the sounds we made with other units (POD HD, Vox Tonelab).
I'm waiting for mine. I actually own a HD500 but man, i want a 2 channels per preset, I want 3 pedals, 2 tubes ( and they make a difference.. ), a faster response when switching presets , an acoustic simulator, a polyphonic pitchshifter. Don't get me wrong: HD 500 is fine and soud amazing. I'll A\B the units and let you know my appreciation. Keep on rockin' anyway !! ;-?
@PhoenixSinistra this unit gives lots of different sound tweaks and all the tools in order to experiment.... i already own some boss stompboxes the ds-1 and od-3 for boost, also a behringer graphic eq and a hellbabe wah... i'd choose this for modulation effects, another eq filter and some pre amp boosting too.... guess i like to get the best of both worlds, sweet tru by-pass distortion and alien like modulation effects. deffinetly a very affordable alternative to the gt-10
Nice video. I have a ZOOM G1X right now and I love alot of the sounds that I have on it. However live it can be a bit of a problem switching between various types of distortions and then to acoustics, is this easy to switch between say 4 sounds a song using the pedals?
@syndgr834 no problem, just keep in mind. generally no matter which one you get it's gonna take some tampering to get the sound you are happy with. So just be patient and test each one out before you buy one.
Hey Brothers,do you know that feeling of having a great Amplifier with nice "GoldCelestians" & BrandNewSet of fresh Strings on your guitar and ofcourse,a Nice Big Cup-a-Coffee???Well that's the feeling you will be having every time you step on your "BBE SonicStompMaximizer"Pedal with ("Contour"setting on FULL)&("Process"setting on one click back from FULL).Simply Inspiring and you WILL NEVER go with out one in your setup again!!!!Oh,by the way,IF you want Sustain&Tone,Get an "Egater"TubeAmp,too!
I do like this pedal, I bought one and to be honest I find it a bit hard to understand compared to my gfx707 which is really really easy and has some great effects.is their a site with basically an idiots guide on editing effects etc, I do have the guide book but I wouldn't mind it simplifying.I just want the most out of it and at the moment I don't think it's fat greater than my gfx707 as they still have similar sounding effects anyway
@bonz0416 I havn't tried any of them just looking at reviews and videos on the net!! The me 70's advantage is that it has a phrase loop which the zoom doesn't but the zoom comes with cubeace for recording with a USB port so thats what decided it for me. Theres only €10 of a difference between the 2 of them in musicstore in Germany which is where i get my stuff!
not partucaly. my mates dad let me use his today. i spent about 1 and1/2 hours tweaking it and it just sounded amaizing. i know a guy whos rig is this and a marshall power amp. they are brilliant , for the money your getting so many sounds. im now saving for one of these after i get my seven string.
read all comments. made a conclusion of getting the G9. zoom here i come. screw Boss and Line 5 i mean 6 he he. Tubes make the difference. and i'm looking for control in sound. this pedal does it all. it like i'm getting a DS-1 with it.
@VIZZICKS The Zoom isn't even really tweakable, too: You can't change the order of the effects, some of the parameters have pathetic ranges, the gain settings don't do much above 30 or so, the list goes on and on. So that's not even a matter of opinion, unlike sound quality. Usually I only take lessons from people who know what they're talking about and can articulate themselves, but if you're ever near Mönchengladbach I'll be glad to make an exception ;)
Does anyone had the issue where factory reset does not work? I turn on the console on with store button pressed but the option "all initialize" does not appear. Any tips on that?
I reccomend you the Zoom! i test Zoom G2.1u and sounds really good for his price. I hate the digitech pedals because the sound is too digital. Get the Zoom or if you have $100 more, the Line 6 POD X3 Live... sorry for bad eng
@VIZZICKS I guess I should stop arguing with you now. Everyone makes mistakes when they start off and it can be pretty hard to be objective about your own gear, especially when you're still young and that's okay. There's so much to learn and so much experience needed that you can't get everything (or anything in most cases) right the first time. But that's part of the thrill, isn't it? So keep playing, training your ears and growing up and someday you'll understand what I was trying to tell you!
@xngr yep you caught me in a mistake I couldn't tell the difference between either of you and those other units are much easier to use and if you just want to plug in and play without haveing to do much thats fine but if you want something that you can costumize your tone with the zoom can't be beat and as far as finding a good one please refer to my above comments I do like the vox as well but the hd is pretty generic sounding like a souped up spider
hmm i'm thinking about buying this... but i dunno, why is the boss gt-10 better? what about it would appeal more to a guitarist? i do some recording, and play mostly blues classic rock and metal, so which do you think would be better?
Multi-effect wise I have the PODxt.. but I try not to use it much. I have stomp boxes.. some are really good.. like Ibanez Chorus 9 series, MXR Phase 90, Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde etc. some are just simple ones like Boss SD-1, Digitech Death Metal (I almost kill the high in it to get a cleaner sound..) and more.. I'm looking into getting a Yamaha DG Stomp.. these are neat..
@Guiataristmarshall01 the zoom doesnt have a looper, and they;re both VERY strong competetors, i think id go for the gt10 because i just like it better, i dont know y ,i just do you know, but i think the ME 70 beats both, just test them and see what u think. feel free to ask any more questions!\m/
@syndgr834 I'm goin with the zoom g.92tt. I went and tested it at a local music shop. For only $300 it's a lot more diverse and better value compared to the other things I've looked at/played. the gt-10 is like $500 and lacking in distortion. if you have $500 to spend check out the DigiTech GNX4, my fiend has it and the settings/patches he has sound great. I'm goin for the zoom just out of preference and value. It up to you though Good luck.
ive had both zoom and boss multi fx, and i found the boss to be a bit clean and lifeless, while the zoom had the occasional 'flaw' i preferred it because it didnt suck the life and harmonics out of the sound. plus my the gt6 seemed to have stupid digital clipping on amp models and the distortions were a hissy mess, so i guess boss had more flaws anyway. its preference.
Is a unit for teens in my opinion , if you like it it's ok. I allready try this one and, for it doesn't wort the money. If you buy one of these it's ok don't worry it has some good point but not as good as other ones. Every unit has weak and good points.
i see where you are coming from. i have a zoom g2, which im guessing is in the same league as your rp70. personally though, i would get the g9 if i had the money lol.
hey man just wondering im betwn this one an the gt8 boss why is this better? or this better than boos also looking at g7 zoom is this one soi much better? millions thanks gretings from mexico
Just broke open my Zoom G9.2tt after a few years and having a great time going through all the sounds ( factory and my sounds ). Still a great pedal!
I have g7.1ut, is g9.2 much better then g7.1 in term of sound?
Still love it in 2019 !!! Bring it back !!!
i was going to ask if anyone was still using this pos in 2019 lol

Its got an amazing ZNR built in. It is silent, even on really high gain and you don't lose any tone.
That right there is a real Bonus worth it all. The sounds themselves are Superb too.
Man, by the time this guy was finished, the pedal had like, 5 hearts.
"the heart of this pedal is its..."
im glad i bought it so early on, it's a great tool for guitarist

the engl setting with high tube saturation sounds amazing. almost as good as the real thing (i also have high end amps)
I was wrecking my head deciding between this and the ME 70. Ordered this one can't wait to get it now!!!

That whammy effect sounds really cool
The main reason this pedal is superior to all others in the class is because it processes signal with 32-bits instead of 24. That extra 8 bits is huge- 2^24 = 16,777,216 vs 2^32 = 4,294,967,296. Zoom really kicked ass with this pedal.
@assgroos
I'm sorry my friend but the Line 6 dl4 is still a digital multi fx pedal, it's a modeler delay "stomp box", basically, it doesn't have analog response.

I haven't even tried the pedal, let alone want the zoom, but that pedal sounds awesome.
Usually I only take lessons from people who know what they're talking about and can articulate themselves, but if you're ever near Mönchengladbach I'll be glad to make an exception ;)
so obsessed with the damn expression pedal in the whole video that we didn't get to hear what the preamps sound like!
@JohnTheRipper2 No, but you can just disable a pedal from a patch.
@paolommong Really? I only got mine a week ago but they feel quite solid to me.
I just got myself a G2Nu. Maybe I'll get this later on. I'm still just a beginner.
Awesomeeee !!!
Keep rocking
hmm i'm thinking about buying this... but i dunno, why is the boss gt-10 better? what about it would appeal more to a guitarist? i do some recording, and play mostly blues classic rock and metal, so which do you think would be better?
it is not longer available. Zoom G5 is the topmodell now !
Volkscurrywurst no it's the zoom g5n ;)
But that new model lacks real tubes inside it !!!
oh, two pedals! where is the steering wheel?
Multi-effect wise I have the PODxt.. but I try not to use it much. I have stomp boxes.. some are really good.. like Ibanez Chorus 9 series, MXR Phase 90, Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde etc. some are just simple ones like Boss SD-1, Digitech Death Metal (I almost kill the high in it to get a cleaner sound..) and more.. I'm looking into getting a Yamaha DG Stomp.. these are neat..
im buying this and the boss gt 10 its gonna be awesome
hmm...thank you. More thoughts on new pedals. Always good!
Dang, at one point, you could use that 'video game' sound do do ELPs Lucy Man. Very cool effects unit.
Pauls a decent guitar player, and he's very humble. I just wish they would get some more professional guitarists to try this out.
Just strumming along. Im pretty sure million songs have that progression.
hey man just wondering im betwn this one an the gt8 boss
why is this better?
or this better than boos also looking at g7 zoom is this one soi much better?
millions thanks gretings from mexico
Idd like u to make a "how to use" video for the ZOOM G9.2tt
yeah.. yeah... yeah.. now tell me does it have a high gain distortion?
Also, too much tweakability will drive you crazy! The GT-8 is insane in that department!
@KurdishRockstar1
Buy whatever you prefer and is good to you.
Try both and whatever suits on your gear or your playing , buy it.
