I was one of the lucky fans who was part of the audience. It was taped on April 28th. 1964, and on the television in England a week or so later. A few months later it was televised in America. 🎵🎵🎵🎵 This was one of the many times that I saw The Beatles, and I have written all about it, and my other adventures chasing after The Beatles all over London in my book titled ‘A Common case of Beatlemania’ which is available on Amazon. There’s also a closeup of my friend and me right after John screams in Can’t Buy Me Love. 😁
I’m almost 72. I really wonder if young folks today can really understand what these four guys meant to a girl growing up in The Bronx in the 1960s. The Beatles were the greatest.
I don't know about the Bronx girls but I was born in 86 and became obsessed with the Beatles when the anthology films were on TV in 94/5 in England and had no idea who they were and I know anyone who knows music they mean alot

Yes, you're quite right. Ringo certainly does have a lovely voice, particularly the segment 13:34 thru 15:22, which I reckon is what you're referring to? Most people always said that Ringo had very limited vocal skills, so it's indeed amazing how he so skillfully managed to manipulate his voice to sound like so many different musical instruments all at the same time ... an amazing talent. And then immediately following his segment someone apparently turned off every single microphone in the place from 15:22 thru 17:04. I guess they just felt that Paul's singing paled in comparison with the incredible performance that had just been just delivered by Mr. Starr.
@@advancecharmander Indeed, one might even go so far as to say that in terms of that good ol' "royalty-free music" it's a virtual certainly that Ringo "stole the show" with a vocal performance that seemed to exceed all prior-known human limits. 😀
George is playing his newly acquired Rickenbacker 12 string but from the way the solo on Roll Over Beethoven sounds, it's only strung with the standard 6 strings. Boy, the Lads were good sports to do this silliness.
When looking at this footage, from a TV special these Beatles did back in 1964, I notice this is how John and Paul are with each other during the 'Get Back' film, and they hadn't lost what they had back here during this footage, their humour and behaviour is very spontaneous here, as it was in the 'Jackson' film. Same sense of humour.

First time I've seen this I was nine years old when this was recorded I know every song inside out And each and one of them still gives me a kick .... Not only did they write great songs they were really REALLY bloody good entertainers !! What a show !!
Brian Epstein. He got them to do this special while the band was filming A Hard Day's Night. even George reflected later on how they were able to be a powerhouse of getting work done in both '64 & '65
They were playing live-you can hear the differences in George's solos. Also his solos are being played on his Rickenbacker 12-string, which can be clearly heard, whereas it wasn't used for the solos on official studio versions of the songs played here. It does sound like they were lip-synching to the vocals, though.
@@lisajudge6320 That's true, but it was re-recorded for the show. Back in the day, artists would have to re-record the tracks they would be 'performing' on many British television programs (Top of the Pops was a prime example of that). You can hear the difference between the original and the re-recorded versions.
The tracks were pre-recorded, and the medley edited at IBC studios in Portland Place London W1 on April 19th, 1964. All tracks were lip synced during the special.

Why did someone put strange music in its place of the beatles You have ruined the film.

I've never heard that song at the beginning "Oh Paul we love you.." What is that? Beatles hymn?
The song is from "Bye Bye Birdie." They changed it from "We love you, Conrad..." etc.

Were they playing live. I don't think so. It seems like they were pretending to a record.
Looks like they were miming musically but the vocals were live. They did that a lot in those days.
