Embrace your madness! There are no rules! ( Discussing C. G. Jung's The Red Book )

  • Welcome to a binaural ASMR Let's Talk, where I ramble about a few topics, specifically one particular thought I had the day I recorded this video about how we're all a little mad. Hours later, I picked up Carl Jung's The Red Book which I hadn't looked at in months, and after turning a few pages, randomly ended up where he himself talks about madness, and how there are no rules in life.
I'm no scholar, nor a student of Jung's work. I never even went to medical school, or college! I'm just a layman who is fascinated with the human condition, and who tried his best to give his subjective view and interpretation of C. G. Jung's work, if for no other reason than to share it with those who also have an interest in Carl Jung, mental health, psychology, and most importantly: to help folks relax, ease their minds and sleep.
Headphones are recommened, as I'm wearing in-ear microphones which create an authentic binaural sound, picking up the sounds of the environment all around me including the wind blowing through the trees, which I hope helps translate well and creates as much of a relaxing atmosphere and mood for you as it did for me.
    All my best,
    - E.R.
"Be silent and listen: have you recognized your madness and do you admit it? Have you noticed that all your foundations are completely mired in madness? Do you not want to recognize your madness and welcome it in a friendly manner? You wanted to accept everything. So accept madness too. Let the light of your madness shine, and it will suddenly dawn on you. Madness is not to be despised and not to be feared, but instead you should give it life…If you want to find paths, you should also not spurn madness, since it makes up such a great part of your nature…Be glad that you can recognize it, for you will thus avoid becoming its victim.
Madness is a special form of the spirit and clings to all teachings and philosophies, but even more to daily life, since life itself is full of craziness and at bottom utterly illogical. Man strives toward reason only so that he can make rules for himself. Life itself has no rules. That is its mystery and its unknown law. What you call knowledge is an attempt to impose something comprehensible on life." - C.G. Jung, The Red Book

    What is ASMR?
In my subjective view, ASMR is 2 things: a sensation and a medium (like music for example).
The sensation itself (ASMR) stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and is the current (non-scientific) name given to the feeling characterized as a pleasurable tingling sensation felt in the head, scalp, back and other regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli, such as crinkling bags, hand movements, whispering and personal attention.
ASMR videos, the medium, are not only meant to help induce the sensation or "tingles", but also help provide a relaxing, calming and soothing experience for the viewer while helping to relieve their anxiety, stress, headaches, insomnia, to help those suffering with PTSD or depression, to serve as a study aid and much more. It is quite therapeutic, for both the creator and recipient, not much different than the mediums of music and painting.
Many people who do not experience ASMR still enjoy the videos for their calming and sleepy affect.

I think you're the only other person I know of, who thinks so similarly to the way I do. It's so hard to have a discussion with people about this, without them thinking I'm unhappy or something or unrealistic or something! Which is so frustrating sometimes because I see them living through the perspective of all these manmade ways of thinking, they're convinced that they are the ones seeing reality! Its so cool to know I'm not the only one who embraces nature in as objective view as I can manage.

Thank you for this... I love the Red Book. My dad would sometimes leave his copy out on a bookstand and it would always catch my attention because it seemed so big and mysterious. One day he left it open and I read about Jung's encounter with Izdubar, more commonly known as Gilgamesh. It made me think about the East vs. the West, Nature vs. Technology, profound complimentary opposites like this. I began thinking about how polar opposites might not be so different, but in fact, interdependent notions that are actually two extreme ends of the same idea. Two poles of a planet. Because, to imply that one thing exists implies that its opposite exists as well. Like how light is needed to cast a shadow. I don't know if Jung had all the answers. His maxim, borrowed from the Pythic oracles, went something like "the one thing I know is that I know nothing". So probably not, but that's the thing, none of us do. We are all limitless when it comes to learning, including learning how to live with one another. Swallowing today's poisons leads to tomorrow's antidotes. I hope more people can learn to respect both what they are and what they are not. Anyways, it's nice to find Jung alive in unexpected places. Please keep making videos. There are many of us out here who understand, or try their best at any rate.

I can appreciate the parts you read. Truly; nothing has any rule, or rules. Our own understanding(s) are just different interpretations of the exact same thing happening now. The beauty of nature is that it is perfect. If it doesn't exist naturally than it could never be perfect.

The type of people that like to think and come across as if they're "holier than thou" do it because deep down inside they feel insecure and inadequate, so I wouldn't let it bother you and maybe even cut them a little slack.
They say that if you knew the motivations behind everyone's actions you would be able to forgive them all.

"You shouldn't be ashamed to say/do whatever you want. Someone gets offended, that's on THEM. Every single human being has the right to live however they want, say whatever they want, do whatever they want. We created illogical rules that go against human nature"
That's exactly what I thought about yesterday after watching the News on TV ( Germany ). I hope that at some point in human history everyone will understand this single, simple thing.

Loved how you have sense of respect as in not budding into peoples beliefs regardless if that's how you quite see it or not. Now a days a youtuber actually not interested in pointless drama or conflict over (insert belief or opinion here) To assert their own point of view over others is what I regard a maturity of mind and heart. We all have differing opinions and we hardly all have to agree always but what we need is to respect one another as fellow human being and part of that is having differing opinions without having to mentally oppress others with our own worldviews or beliefs. It's ok to voice an opinion, it's not so graceful to preach or get wound up, in someone's face about they needing to adopt what we happen to be selling. So kudos to a non militant human being respecting other's opinions while giving a peek into his own :) About your talk about Spirit, let me quote from Alan Wake ;) 'It's not a lake, it's an ocean'

I do agree that there are naturally no rules, besides the natural laws in places such as physics and chemistry of course. But the only rules we see today are not part of some divine hand, but merely of human creation. In nature, the only rules in life are met through natural selection.

+DeathRules Same for me. I love his videos but I don't really agree with a lot of things he says in the more "philosophical" discussions. It is still fascinating to learn what people with different worldviews believe.

Hey Uncle E. I don't comment often but I had to tell you that I really enjoyed this talk. If you haven't heard of or listened to Alan Watts I think you would really enjoy him.

I'm reminded of what (Captain) Jack Sparrow said in the first movie. "The only rules that matter are these: What a man *can* do, and what he *can't* do."

there are tons of things in the universe that we know exist but cannot prove, i think you think that he's talking from a religious view but i don't think that's the case. this universe is so big it's incomprehensible, and its expanding. life comes and it dies, and the universe moves on. saying what he said seems kind of unfair if a noble knight dies for a good causes while a dude has a drug overdose as a teen. but if you zoom out of the earth and then the solar system and so on it doesn't really matter because life has lived out its plan, or something. i really don't know what i'm trying to describe but in a way it makes sense to me.
