Icon Celebration

In 2020, we set off to create a new icon system in a collaborative effort across Microsoft. Our mission was to create a beautiful, moving, coherent icon system, and each discipline added its expertise to the process. The resulting One Microsoft icon design language is unique to Microsoft and reflects our brand personality.
At the core of our app icon system is a universal grid that considered a multitude of icons silhouettes. This flexible grid, along with a set of lightweight guidelines, allows designers across the company to contribute brand new icons to the system, evolving the aesthetic over time while retaining a familiarity to the overall family of symbols. This film explores the elements of that grid and the icons we've created around it.
