That first one you referenced was indeed the most exciting uk train clip I've seen! Also the horn from that transpenine train is just disgusting imo xD
It’s strange seeing so many stations I’ve had to commute to and from in 1 video. Been to Doncaster, Cross Gates, Garforth, Kirkstall Forge and Mirfield specifically for work
53:50 is it me or does that look too fast for that curve. I mean I know the tracks can handle way more than what the train can but to me it looks like it was a couple of miles an hour short of using the platform edge to make the cure without derailing.
Well it’s all about friction right. That curve might not be tight enough to exceed the force of friction meaning it can stay on the track. Also it might just be going at the max speed of the curve so it won’t derail. But I agree sure does look like it’s going to
That Grand Central paint scheme reminds me of the old Illinois Central streamlining passenger trains back when the railroad companies here in the U.S. ran passenger trains. The I.C.R.R. had a different shade of orange stripe and the coaches were chocolate brown. Of course those old passenger trains were before my time.
taking into account factors such as the cost of keeping the network in proper use, the annual passenger numbers, the density of the network nationwide, the enormous amount of services on offer, the average speed of UK trains and the number of fatalities, does Britain have the best and more efficient railways in the world?
In my opinion, despite most of British main Railways are now electrified with overhead catenary or third rail, there are more diesel multiple units than their electric mates. In a world that could be unliveable in the next few years we have to change a lot of things to something cleaner, even trains, which I consider one of the most eco-friendly transport system
Diesel electric locos have diesel engines that are actually generating electricity which is then used to power electric traction motors that drive the wheels. This is a far more efficient and powerful way to run a loco. The diesel engines don't physically drive the wheels This is a very simplistic explanation. An electro diesel tends to be a dual power loco that can run off overhead or third rail electricity or it's own diesel engine. The British Rail Class 73 is an example.
I'm glad we finally have some electric power enabled locomotives for loco hauled services like freight and some passenger services because the toll on the environment is not needed.
Love the intercity 125 roaring past. Still a beast after all these years.

It is said that class 60 and class 66 are also diesel-electric powered on Wikipedia.
Diesel electric locos have diesel engines that are actually generating electricity which is then used to power electric traction motors that drive the wheels. This is a far more efficient and powerful way to run a loco.

Isn't there stiĺl the arbitrary 125mph speed limit on UK lines? Apart from the Eurostar??
Class 395s are permitted to do 140. Rest is 125 max
South Central Transport Enthusiast it was 150 for wcml just correct that
Or maybe more
@@itzroblox_games6262 No, 125. Wcml had a train capable of 150 but never got to such speed in service iirc.
