Just to keep it accurate. Even if the video is post by the channel "The Henry Ford", the first Unimate robot ever installed in a assemly line was at Ewing, New Jersey, in a General Motors auto parts plant in 1961.
So just to get things into perspective: the patent showed mechanical drum memory controlling the sequencing and a tube (valve in English English) in the control circuit.
200 steps was not crude back then, rather a break through in technology FAR before its time and the inventor, George Devol, does not receive the credit due regarding his success for literally laying the foundation for future tech!
Wrong on many levels - Unimate was the brainchild of inventor George C. Devol who had existing patents for magnetic computer memory and sought a new application. General Motors was the first customer. Isaac Asimov was a science fiction writer who had nothing to do with the development of industrial robotics.
@@billw.9519 Who claimed that Asimov was focused on the development of robots? "Robotics" in term, even comes from Asimov. Devol was influenced himself by Asimov, as also was Joseph Engelberger, the result? Unimate. You are the one in error.
@@AgendaFiles Robot comes from Czech, from robota ‘forced labor’. The term was coined in K. Čapek's play R.U.R. ‘Rossum's Universal Robots’ (1920). My grandfather, George Devol, never read science fiction. He met Joe Engleberger 2 years after applying for the seminal robotics patent during a meeting at Manning, Maxwell and Moore where Joe was an engineer running its aircraft division. The cocktail party story was invented by Joe for publicity.
@@billw.9519 thank you for great answer sir. There is a video on youtube named as "Kawasaki Robotics Unimate from 1968". Was it related with Unimation Inc. It seems to be a rebranding or licensed production. Best Regards.

Is Unimate on display at the Henry Ford?
😮😮😮
Made by George C Devol 🤔though why didn’t it sell
Unimation was actually quite successful during the 1970s. Search the web and you will find photos of Chevy assembly lines with Unimates side by side.

Isaac Asimov inspired General Motors to create Unimate.
