Were there any cons to staying in this bldg/room? Also, Has anyone been here during May? hows the weather? We are going in May 2018.
Hi Patrick - rooms were great - they had just been renovated. The only issue I found was the bathroom door didn't close properly. Check out the full review of El Dorado Royale at ua-cam.com/video/LAuejiTMdMU/v-deo.html (weather info at 8:05). May is warm (I'm assuming you mean 2019) and just before the rainy season.
We will be there in 2 months. Thinking about upgrading to the swim up. Worth the upgrade?
Russell Pace ... I really enjoyed the swim up. This was my first time in one. We spent quite a bit of time in the swim up pool, only about a foot deep, with the sun loungers (and a drink). With the swim up you also get to meet you neighbors and make friends easier because you share the space/pool area. Also, the back terrace is larger than a balcony which make morning coffee more enjoyable. I'd definitely go that route again (now that I'm spoiled). Plus, at El Dorado Royale, the swim ups connect to the main pools so you can swim (or walk in the "lazy river") to the bar and bring drinks back to your room. If you can afford the upgrade, do it.

Booked it. You may be able to upgrade at the desk or in advance via email/phone, but I'm not sure. Enjoy. It's really nice there.
How far away was your room from the beach
About 2-3 minutes to the beach. 30 seconds to the large pool (not including the swim up, which was 3 seconds). The beach is long...to get to the central part of the beach (restaurants) was about 5 minutes.
