- In the fifth and final episode of Is It Really That Bad?, filmmaker Reinier van Oorsouw travels through the beautiful Alborz mountain range. Here he snowboards at Dizin Ski Resort, and explores the Alamut Valley. As happens throughout his trip, he’s warmly invited by local people to dance, to eat, and to learn more about their lives. See for yourself the Iran never shown by the media.

I remember my Iranian classmates during my University classes. They are my friends, nice and dignified people.
My love and respect from the Philippines. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
I love Iran and its rich Persian culture! Can't wait to visit again!
always welcome ;-)
Custom Logo Cookies Thank you, but you have to know Iran is not a just Persian country, it’s diverse and ppl lives with the different languages! There is almost 40 million Turks, 10 million Kurdish ppl, 5 million Arabic ppl, Bloch ppl ... Persian are minority, but unfortunately they are in power! That’s why the other population that I named even have no right to learn their own language..
why do you separate people? Iran belongs to all of us Turk,Kurdish,Bloch,Arabs and all of us
who said iran belongs to just persian language people?!?!?!?!!
Milad Vaziri I don’t care Iran belongs to whom! I’m Turkish race and have nothing in common with Persian! I don’t want to sacrifice my language and my culture to be united with Persian! We’ll be separate one day, I’m from Ardabil and it’s our dream to fall apart from Persian and join to our brothers. I respect Persian, but it’s my right to defend my heritage, culture, language, and future!
;-)
Thank you Reinier, for an introduction to a beautiful people, culture, and country.
I was born in Iran and have not been there in years. These episodes are amazing. It was like going back home for me. When I went there about 15 years ago (as a visitor this time) I also noticed how nice everyone was. So yes living there can be hard especially if you don't have money. But then living in any country has its own issues. If you have a chance to visit don't pass it up. Nobody bites! Great job Reinier!
I loved your videos, Rainier. I am Portuguese/Iranian (married to an Iranian) and have lived in Iran since 1988. Of course, working in my country’s embassy has helped me immensely in remaining here. I do think that the media hasn’t been very true in depicting Iran.
In this video, I was sorry that you did not show Dizin properly and how the Iranian women ski and how they manage to be creative with their ski clothes.
Please make a series on the women in Iran and how they manage to take part in all kinds of sports, even though we have to be covered with the hijab... even bungee jumping. I lost the courage at the last moment and didn’t jump, by the way 😊.
Lovely comments

I am from the Netherlands and travelled Iran exactly one year ago. Went there with an Iranian friend of mine who lives in Alkmaar also. Had such a great time, meeting his friends in Iran, having to eat at every visit.. Planning to visit Iran again this year..

What an amazing piece; great illustration of editing skills and good journalism all through the video.
After each episode, I scroll down to read the comments and all I see is fellow Iranians nagging and complaining about 'how real Iran is' and 'how this video isn't showing real Iran'. Interestingly enough, each person describes 'the real Iran' differently. Can't you see? We are a colorful, paradoxical nation. We have religious people and non-religious ones, some of us drink, some of us don't, some of us hate hijab, some of us believe in it etc. We'll get nowhere and suffer forever (as we do now), if we don't learn to accept each other for what we are. And stop reminding the guy to pronounce 'Iran' correctly! As if you have the best pronunciation for every fucking word yourself.
Couldn't say better 👍

Who is the violin player?
@@zinknot I don't know dude :)) What made you think I am the person who can answer this question? Unless you thought he is a famous Iranian musician. In that case, the answer is no. He isn't.
You're right.
But I feel I would pronounce the name of the country i'm making videos about correctly, especially since he's stayed for several days.
Love this series! People are people no matter where in the world you travel to. Everyone has hopes, dreams and aspirations. Thanks for this inspiring series.
Thank you for showing other countries that my country is not that bad
Reinier, and Kristiaan, can't thank you enough for this awesome series! Bless
I’m really grateful you made these videos, thank you!
Iran is the most interesting country that I have ever visited. Visa on arrival for all Europeans; no hassle at immigration! I was allowed to roam freely and at no time was I asked for ID. People are super friendly and helpful and the food is mouth watering good.
Loved this video bud, such joy full time
nice :-) IRAN and all other countrys are beautyfull :-)
Whats your name?!
I thought Iran was a well chosen name, I RAN away from there as fast as I could, lol. Now I want to visit, and if I like, I will pass that onto my people, just need to make friends will people from Iran :)
It is more of an Electronic Run than I Ran. You know, E-run.

i live in tehran and as a local i have so much things to say . but generally i love people and my country and y'all are welcome to pass by anytime.
god! i really enjoyed watching this series. i feel like you are the only person who captured the real side of Iran almost perfectly! i say almost cause there's a lot to my country and it will take ages to capture all but this is by far the realest, most honest videos i've seen about Iran.
Thank you for sharing this journey
Thank you for doing this
I enjoyed this series. The Persian people seem really cool. I find in travels most people are friendly no matter where you travel. It’s often the governments that spoil things.

You Showed THE REAL TRUTH!
Thank You Man. Hope to see you in Iran again soon ;)
Honestly you blew my mind with your story telling!
Thank you for giving a true image of IRAN🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for showing and spreading true face of iranian people to the world.
After reading the book "not without my daughter" and of course hear all the negativity that in searched in Western media, I told myself never to travel to Iran. This video was really interesting and teached me to educate myself more about cultures and destinations I don't know much about. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for seeing past the media lies to understand for yourself the reality. We are people just like you, but unfortunately we face lots of racism and discrimination around the world. Hopefully one day there will be enough people like you so the hate can stop. love from Iran :)
Beautiful four-season country and safest for travelers.
Thank you
This is amazing , time to rethinking
Thanks for showing the reallities!
Very nice video! :)
I actually really liked all these Iran episodes, short and sweet 👌
Tnk bro about this video our country is so save for travel and Iranian people are so friendly.we love all people around the world you can come to Iran and see our culture
Iran episodes were really good and I was already planning to visit! Now I'm more excited to go there..
Nice series

I'd love to visit Iran. Thank you for showing me the country. I really enjoyed your series of films :)
that's good, I'm from Isfahan, Iran.if you come let us know to show you the city
thanks.
Very interesting, Beautiful Place ❤️💋
I watch all the episodes. They have really opened my eyes on how western medias are biased against this beautiful country. I didnt know that people of Iran were that open minded.. One day i would like to visit this country.. Greetings from Indonesia.
yes, tourism needs in iran ,iran is so beautiful,go go Iran
I agree hasan you are so lucky born in that area👌
LOVE FROM IRAN ;)
to the face of those who say Iranians live like 7th century
This series was so interesting to me. And don't forget to visit Sari in the north. It's so rainy and green. We'll be happy to be your host.
i hope i can go to Iran one day they are amazing
Just with a few claps of hand, we can start a dance party. Happiness is in our blood and we manage to never forget it even in hardest of time. With all the different cultures and costumes, there are so many different dance styles, so many different celebrations.
Like any other place in the world, life in Iran has 2 side:
One colorful ,and one black and white
Thank you for using proper music
Ali Razi 😂😂😂🤦🏻♂️
In Western Media, Pakistan is also portrayed in a negative way although PAK has more positivity than negativity. For Instance, Pakistan has 5 out of 14 8000m mountain peaks. They come with splendid most beautiful valleys having breath-taking views of most magnificent mountains in the World. Going south, you have Islamabad which is the second most beautiful capital in the World. Further down south, there is Lahore the city with 1000 years of heritage and amazing food. Moving further down there is Mohen-jo-Daro the ruins of 5000 years old city. A city that invented the drainage system. We have the World's only fertile Desert THAR, beautiful beaches in Balochistan, amazingly awesome street food in Karachi and above all people that would show hospitality to the level that is absent in other cultures.
LOTS OF LOVE FROM PAKISTAN
Love Pakistan The Country Of K2 From Iran
Iran is a beautiful country.The.population is like that of Mauritius.Good, kind and warm people.May God bless the country.
Iranians are very talented people. Love Iran.
Everyone thinks we are Iranians very fanatical and religious And this is wrong thinking We are very open minded and hospitable I hope you are always happy and good luck✌💓👍
So we are non-religious?? are you Iranian???? oh God! ahahahaha , Its your opinion..and I think that its totally wrong
@@majid.shadmehr in all fairness, Sourena Jan, Iranians are less religious than Turks and Arabs combined. Unlike Turks and Arabs, Iranian culture and civilization is different from Islam or some vague invented History.
Great taste of music! Can you please share your playlist?!
nice series of videos, I can understant your poaint of you and why people dont see this country with other point of view. Like the media always show the bad, same happens with my country what people ask where Im from the only thing they know is the bad thinsg happpens there but there is people culture and different way of life. Great for those showed how beautiful your country is.
It's not bad. So nice. Next trip to Iran
It is not bad at all it is a beautiful country with great people that should get more attention
the whole documentary is really good and thanks for showing good faces of Iran to the world. I don't know which episode was that but the Russian lady was right, its just in the beginning that everybody loves to welcome you just for making a lovely image about something, after spending a little time you become usual and they don't even pay attention to you, it's not about tourist or foreign people coming in Iran it's about a lot of first meetings, and surely not just in Iran I think its same in the whole world like this
this is great. we would like to go
damn, i want more
I'm surprised, why do not tourists come to North West Side of Iran, in Asarbaijan and where I live. All visit only Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz and Yazd. actually in north west there are beautiful nature and culture and history (places of long history, churches & mountains & castles, ....)
I mean (Ardebil, Tabriz, Urumie and Zanjan especially, with different language (Turkish), there are still nomads with their own culture and way of life, ....
Tourists really miss a Great Adventure in Iran
That's a big thing that most tourists miss.
Just the fact that you have been able to get to the fifth episode of your show and been able to go anywhere and been greeted warmly, proof that Iran is totally safe?
😍😍😍😍
Is Alamut Valley is where Hassan bin sabah had his fort? if yes I was so disappointed with not being able to have a glimpse of his fort and all!
As an iranian person, the only thing I can say is "thanks for showing the other side of Iran to the world"
Whenever you want to came again, we will warmly welcome you.
Qavin,ya my dear friends are there
❤❤❤❤❤
It's really nice that you tried to see and explore for yourself, rather than just believing what is told by media.
But to be honest, as an Iranian woman who has studied abroad and travelled and loves her country, I should say you haven't seen much!
Is Iran that bad? The series shows no. But to see its beauty, you need to work more.
You should have had an Iranian guide to give you the context for things. Like the flower in Isfahan, it was just a welcome gift.
You just approached the some of the ones that could speake English and they were not happy with anything in Iran. They should be respected ofcourse, but what about others?
Any way, thank you for the work and I hope one day, you get a more balanced realistic picture of Iran (which is pronounced /eeraan/, not / I ran/)!
He just spent couple of days in each city, would you expect him to interview the entire population of Iran? His job is fantastic expressing what he absorbed from those he met.
@@mz3361 That definitely would have not been possible and obviously not what I meant. But even if you just simply search visiting Iran in UA-cam, you'll see videos of other travelers who have been in exactly same position, but did it differently. The question is: could the resources available been used better? If you ask me, I say yes.
Really interesting and the photography is great. It does leave me wondering, though: is Iran only "not so bad" the more it resembles *western* countries?
hey, did you include your camera gear/lenses anywhere?
Really great series. Will you discuss the treatment of Baha'i's (a religious minority)? I had friends who escaped Iran and religious persecution. Devout Muslims risked their own lives to help them escape over the mountains. Not everyone agrees with this treatment against the Baha'i's.... but it is a part of their history and current landscape.
you missed the north man, Guilan. would be another world for you
Mext time you should vist shiraz . It's soo much different and soo much cooler than tehran and isfahan. Ill be your tour guide😉😉
What if i will come over there will you be mine tour guide & how much would you charge
Marsh Crocodiles in the south, dense forests in Asalem to Khalkhal, an ever changing landscape.
if u have visited Asalem n Khalkhal. I should just congrats u.
The assassins is my favourite part of Persian history...
Nice. But next time: please do not say "ai-ran".
It is ee-ran, phonetically. Airan is so American :(
hahaha bedankt, Sander...!
who cares? iran is the land of aryans anyway
who cares how he said it
Ai-ran and Ai-raq! lol :)
This is the smartest dutchie! He’s right why did he said it like airan even Dutch people say IEEEEEERAN SIGH and it does Matter how you pronounce a name you can’t say niederlend instead of Nederland or aindia instead of India sigh!!! The western world shows us propaganda unless all y’all stop watching tv and travel things will get worse! The west is turning into a jailhouse you are being followed from within your house and from the moment you go outside! A Dutch man who’s a lawyer btw said he never felt so free when he went to Iran! When he went back to Holland he sold all his apple devices and purchased Asian one lol! So this one time he filed for his tax km he was making for work! he got a letter back from the irs ( Belastingdienst) and they said we digged up your license plate number and 5 out of 30 days you wasn’t driving there on that particular highway so we’re definitely not giving you your tax 💰 he was so pissed off because he used his sisters car for a week because his car was at the dealership! Anyways the west is turning into jail we have no freedom over here
This is a beautiful country, if you have ever been to Arab countries is when u will appreciate IRAN, beautiful people and nature
Did you hear much music? I would assume so (as Persian classical music is the bomb) but I could also ask what sort of things you heard on the radio or in public?
Lots of mountains. Most likely full of Minerals.
Thank you MATADOR NETWORK for this amazing episode . Iran sure is one the most peaceful places in middle East (the center of universe). There's no tourism industry as people consider us as terrorists , some don't even know where is the land on the map ; in fact a guy asked me if Iran is in Africa.. 😂
You won't find bars and clubs in Iran, but ull get amazing home made wine , raisin vodka (we call it araq sagi= meaning , dogs drink) and tasty veg as well as non vegetarian food. Iranians love foreigners , hospitality is what'll steal your heart .If any of you fellas ever decide to visit Iran, please do hire a tour guide cuz iran is a historical country you'll find place with over 3 -7 thousand yrs history so it'll be more interesting for you guys to get an idea about the history too.
And the last suggestion to yall , plz try going to the forest camps in north , do visit pomegranate gardens in (saveh) and dont forget to visit tomb of the world's ,great poets : haafez and saadi , you're gonna love the vibes there.
Next time visit north of Iran. States like our Gillan are the green part of the country. Gillan is the state with the most local food worldwide. Rasht is the city of rain. And it's just the best
iran is safe very safe the whole world is safe, after traveling the world, find out, most dangerous place is our mind, we judged too much and hate, love the world, no country or colors or religion, we are human all the same, love you
Why didn’t you come to Shiraz, Iran???
Well, I am Ryne ear and this is what I take from my visit from Iran. If you go open minded anywhere you will see the place as it is. But if you go with an attitude you only see what your perception allows you which will be limited to what is important to you.
As it is said in Persian:
از کوزه همان تراود که در اوست!
Your homework to find the meaning!
Next do Syria 🇸🇾
Do you thinking travel Turkey?
Never knew Iran had so much natural beauty ,fiendly people.
