My daughter and I heard a barred owl calling out a few nights ago. We’re in south Louisiana and it was a warm night. Such a beautiful sound and gorgeous bird.
We have atleast 3 living in the trees behind our house. They make the weirdest squawking noise sometimes and it scared the crap out of me until I realized it was indeed the owls..
Love them as much as the next guy, but I'm certainly not going to shine a damn bright light on them in the night! Common sense just isn't common anymore.
I'm sure the guy did that to see the chuffing owl. Never mind common sense. Put it this way you guys wouldn't be able to see the owl if he didn't shine the light on it. Seriously!!!! some people. Lol
i just heard one outside my window last night and i’ve never lived in a heavily wooded area like this before so it caught me off guard. had i no idea what it was until now 😎 still scared of them
Dont do this to an owl 🤦🏼♀️. Don’t you see he/she has babies! Leave him alone gosh. And don’t put light in his/her face. If you want to do this go in the morning and take pictures but not like that.
That's the call that they use in my part of the world. Whenever I hear it, I at first mistake it for a Great Horned, then I notice that the pitch and cadence are not quite right, and sure enough, it turns out to be a Barred. They're not quite as common as Great Horned where I am, but they're still reasonably plentiful.
He doesn't seem too bothered by the light, but I definitely have one outside my window in the trees hooting all night. Sounds like the same call so it must be the male looking to party.
Nice video with calling/sounds, but this owl name is Himalayan Wood Owl, the Barred Owlet has different call, body structure and colour of Eyes. Thank you very much for nice video.

Pls don’t shine light in owls’ faces they have very delicate peepers, but also look at that lil dance
Just move out to the country Michigan I'm excited to try to attract different owls using the different calls and such very exciting discover Owling!
That’s the America’s best owl trying to sell glasses
I sit on my porch and play this on my phone. I'm in Tennessee, and I get about 50 to come over and cry back to phone 😂

A doctor did the lighting too!! 🤣 that's what the owl was saying! "Get the damn light out of my face!"
The guy filming is a moron

Yeah it does help to see the guy but I wouldn't even do this to my own birds.
Barred Owls are so naturally curious they will go and investigate things that are in their territory. It isn’t harming the owl...
I love the sound of the fledglings behind begging, great capture

I love owls and nature! I just dont like someone shining a flashlight at the owl and invading its space.
Yep! That’s them. Day and night in my back yard. Atlanta, GA

But he can’t see where it’s coming from! If he goes out in the woods he will go far and he won’t know!
And the owl is perching on a tree!
It’s still annoying and owls have very sensitive eyes
Okay, first... It's a male based on the deeper more monotone hoot...

Finally found that hiss sound I was looking for. A juvenile barred owl hissing.

Maria Life are you native American?
Owls are believed to be warnings of death, but in alot of Native Tribes they crest the totem such as Hopi, Mojave, and Creek
Some see them as a token of good luck actually
