I worked at a big box store and was lucky enough to witness a pair of Great Horned owls nest in our garden center and raise their owlets 3 years in a row ❤Such an amazing experience. I’ve had a deep love for owl ever since😊
Probably where half the TikTok videos at night in some forest get their “I’m being chased by a skinwalker!” Stuff comes from lol. Same with bobcats or foxes.
I hear them at a job im doing on a lake. They talk to each other all day, even with loud saws going and hammers banging. watched one fly to a tree with a squirrel in it's talons. Also heard two of them move through the campground I was at last weekend, eventually fading off into the distance. So cool to hear.
It’s nice to be able to identify the owls I hear at night…Great Horned Owls. They talk to each other from a distance, so I learned to (kind of…) sound like them and they would talk with me too. I love to hear them when it’s dark and quiet. 🌲🪵🦉 Thanks for this video.
When I had land in the mountains I witnessed this. Mates would call from a mile away and fly silently over my head . . . hoot-hoot HOOT! to meet in the nearly trees. Most were Great Horned Owls, and even at 4 feet across they could glide through the firs in total silence. The world of man has little to match with this. . .
Isn’t it cool when animals respond to your calls? Ravens sometimes answer me, and once I had a conversation with a lynx. I was out looking for my missing Siamese cat and making ‘Siamese’ cat sounds when I was answered by this lynx. We sat down about 20 feet apart and had a conversation. I will never forget it! (And I did find my cat.)
For years In Western Mass. I would hear great horned owls in the dead of the night, the calls echoing through the woods. Amazing. I always saw it as a sign of good luck. Pure darkness, quiet, and still, yet a whole world stirring in the woods, with no human intervention needed [or wanted]. I was actually jealous. I wanted in on it.
@BS_Nature Spending my teen years in Northern Idaho, I often fell asleep to the tune of an old"Hootie Owl" singing a sort of lullaby from the trees. Summertime added whiffs of fresh wild mint growing as thickets along the creek sometimes dominated by the scent of cut grass. To this day, the sound of a Hootie Owl makes me smile.
It IS a gift to hear them! In our forest, I mostly hear barred owls, the great horned owl, boreal owls and long-eared owls. Teaching videos like this one are so helpful.
There is a large tree in our neighborhood where a nesting pair return to every year to raise their owlets. We’ve been fortunate to be able to see them up close for the last 6 years. It’s fun to see the owlets peering down at you from the nest and observe them fledging.
I moved to a new place on the edge of town two months ago. Ever since, we've been hearing a Great Horned Owl on a regular basis. It's cool because I am over a half century old and had never heard one before. Now I hear it almost daily unless the weather is inclement.
I miss hearing our resident GH owl, I haven't heard him in about 2 years, used to hear him almost every night for years. Hoping he just moved onto better hunting grounds....
I worked at a big box store and was lucky enough to witness a pair of Great Horned owls nest in our garden center and raise their owlets 3 years in a row Such an amazing experience. I’ve had a deep love for owl ever since
Yes, as many owls make more than one call. I heard the weirdest sound in the forest for several nights until one evening when it was still light I spotted a long-eared owl in a tree near me making the call. Apparently, juveniles have different calls from the adults. I am guessing it was a young owl.
I used to hear a certain type of Owl in the woods where I live, and got so good imitating them, they used to answer and come closer. I never knew it was the Barred owl until watching this. It's interesting how many different types of these amazing nocturnal birds are out there. I had no idea.
The Barn Owl at 1am in the dark is quite creepy. 😅 Sounds like I'm inna horror movie, lol. Screech owls are easily noticeable at nights. I always heard great horned owls, I love them!
First time I heard a barn owl last summer when our windows were open for the breeze it scared the ever loving ---- right out of me, I was certain a small child was being murdered!!
I've heard Barred Owls, Screech Owls, Barn Owls, a Long Eared Owl, and a Great Horned Owl, all in the small woods around our apartment complex. Amazing the biodiversity within city limits where I live.
Great recordings. We have a resident Barred owl in my neighborhood. Is Loud, and is curious. I call back to it using cupped hands and a morning dove call I was taught as a kid. The last part of its call almost sounds like the last part of a large dog whining , moaning. At first I thought it was a dog in pain but quickly figured out it was moving through the trees. We are hearing them every night in the area. Last few nights it has been in the trees around our house calling 10 o'clock through the night. I'd love to spot them roosting. A 10 years ago there was an owl dead in my yard under a tree. It was huge, at first I thought it was a large snapping turtle from a pond nearby. It had just died. Now I know it was likely a barred owl from these pictures. Owls are cool. I hope they do well here even though they are elusive. I'll keep talking to them while I still can.
The burrowing owl sounds like a coyote. I am glad I came across this video, Cuz last night I heard a barking owl and was trying to find out what kind it was. 😊 They all can mimic so much. And when birds migrate we get to hear treasures. 👍
I hear that like every night in my hometown because there is a farm and there is a couple of barn owls hahah it sounds scary but its also fascinating ^^
I'm in NW Indiana, Porter County right on the Lake Michigan shore. I've heard owls all my life especially the Great horned owl. We are rural, woods, fields, creeks. Strange to see & hear so many creatures & then drive 45 minutes to Chicago! We get the Best of all seasons right here in the Midwest, nearby big city, beaches, sand Dunes, farmlands, woods, prairies! & lots of owls!
I have nothing but trees and brush behind my property in Texas (east/central) and so often I hear Great Horned Owls, usually two of them going back n'forth and usually around midnight or later. I love hearing them!❤❤

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been able to find out it’s an Eastern Screech Owl I’ve heard outside the past several nights. I love the sound. I’ve also heard a Great Horned Owl a couple of times; not very often. We live in town, but our property backs up to a small wooded area with a creek. Otherwise I’m not sure we’d hear them at all. The markings on owls are beautiful - so intricate!
I live in Northern California, and there is an owl in the tree next to our house frequently. But I didn't hear it on this list. This is still a great learning tool❤
I literally just heard a Barred Owl in a tree right outside my house. I’ve also been lucky enough to see one on the ground in my backyard going after some prey or something as it seemed to scratch and dig at the ground. Owls are beautiful. In one of my trees, We even have a Red-Shouldered Hawk nest and have seen a mated pair use it the last couple of years. They’d even perch on our birdbath and porch rail on occasion. Beautiful birds.
I woke up at 4:40 in the morning to a what sounded like a pack of something communicating in the area for about 5 min. I thought it might be coyotes because we are in the suburbs and they are putting up so much housing that people have been spotting wildlife in their back yards. Turns out it sounded like barred owls. I’ve never heard them before. They were extremely loud.
I watched this video to try and identify, I have two owls, both of thier hoots aren’t quite as deep as the ones in this video, but the cadence is the same as the great horned owl. Thank you for sharing, now I know what to look for!
We always go through the sounds animals make with my toddler granddaughter, but I wanted her to hear the real thing. Owls say hoot. But she was fascinated by this video, all the different sounds they make. Especially the ones that sounded like they were laughing.

That would be amazing to see
Why not just say Home Depot. There’s tons of rodents in their stores. Many adopt cats but a GHO takes care of business
@@ShakespeareCafe because it wasn’t Home Depot, but not sure why it matters. The mostly ate baby rabbits.
Wow! That is awesome!
That is amazing! You never know what bird you will see at garden center! I absolutely love owls.
Owls have always been one of my favorite birds. They’re such cute and fluffy birds.
The are me fave too
I just heard two Great Horned Owls outside! Thank you for making this video
Every other owl: *soft whoo sounds*🦉
Barn Owls: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Barn owls: AHHHHHHHHHHH
Probably where half the TikTok videos at night in some forest get their “I’m being chased by a skinwalker!” Stuff comes from lol. Same with bobcats or foxes.
blug has a midlife crisis which would come quick for owls cus they dont live as long as people
Long earned owl: Mom! Mom! Mom!
thats because every owl except the barn owl is part of the true owls family. barn owls are tytonidae, every other owl is strigidae
I love it when I hear two barred owls talking to each other, in the woods behind our house. 🥰
I hear them at a job im doing on a lake. They talk to each other all day, even with loud saws going and hammers banging. watched one fly to a tree with a squirrel in it's talons.

I think some of owl sounds might be 'pinging' to help them catch their prey... like sonar, or radar... to measure the reflection of the sound waves
When I had land in the mountains I witnessed this. Mates would call from a mile away and fly silently over my head . . . hoot-hoot HOOT! to meet in the nearly trees. Love listening to the music of owls when lying in bed at night I would listen to them. Beautiful.
"Honey, is someone getting murdered in our backyard?"
"No honey, it's just the Barn Owls again."
Oh they’re murdering something out there alright…😢
The one on this program does not scream nearly as loudly or distinctly as the one in my back yard though. LOL
