I received your letter! 👍 It totally made my day. It's so cool to watch you 'frankensteining' your tools - very clever. 'Emeraude de Chivor' = ink envy.
I've done this, and don't understand the hype around the Pilot nib holder when you can get a plain one for almost nothing and a really nice one for not that much more!
Very cool ... I'm off to try this now ... ! With all the nib holders and spate nibs I have kicking around this should be a lot of fun thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the video! Actually, I was searching for a video that shows how to use old fountain pens as dip pens, without removing the nib. Perhaps you can do another video on that. Thanks again!
You’re a genius. I was looking into the Pilot iro utsushi dip pens as a way to get a smooth nib to draw with Ph Martins india ink. I think I will try this instead.
Since I made this video the Sailor Hokoro dip pin has entered the market, and I love the fine nib + the additional feed on that one better than this option because you can write MUCH longer, however, not sure I'd want to use the nib + feed with india ink 🤔, maybe best to stick with this option for that use case. 👍🏻
Hmmm. not sure that will work as it won't have enough contact with the feed and probably won't fit around the feed tightly, especially a G nib, won't hurt to try it though!
@@SarahBaileyArts you are right. I believe I will need to bend the nib to better conform to the feed. Going to try it with a cheap Jinhao. My husband has an array of vises and ‘stuff’. I’m going to find something in his shop a similar diameter as the feed to use to bend the nib around.
That is so clever! I never tried my fountain pen nibs in the nib holder, but why not? As for dip pen nibs, they come in different sizes too, some are smoother than others. I even inherited a whole collection from my mother with many many sizes. :)
To be fair I haven’t done a ton of research into dip pen nibs, but the ones most commonly available here are stub for calligraphy or super sharp. No idea why!
wahhh thank you for this idea. because of this, I also used my kakuno nib (which cartridge has a hole, and i'm too lazy and stingy to buy a new converter, so I'm not using it as a fountain pen) as a dip pen! tried it just now and it feels amazing (smoother) than the g-nib. might keep the nib with the holder too and am excited to buy new inks just to try it for new ink swatches
how did i miss this vid?! this is pretty genius! XD thanks for sharing sarah! lately i've been somewhat getting back into fountain pens. i think whenever i do a big deep clean session, i tend to forget to ink them up and use them again lol. anyway, the other thing i got from this vid is that the kakuno doesn't have a tight seal. so sad! i was thinking about getting the pokemon one since i prefer the ease of this snap/click caps more than the twist/screw caps. guess i wont be buying it. thank you for saving me the money and heartache!
As long as you use the Kakuno regularly it's totally fine, but if you're going to let it sit for a couple of weeks at a time, not so much. The nibs are really freaking awesome so in that sense I TOTALLY recommend them. But for a person like me who has any number of pens inked at once, it just wasn't working.
Oh one other thing re: snap/click - I CAN recommend the Pilot Caliber, a really fantastic pen, but it's a bit slim so beware if you like chunkier pens. And of course there's Lamy, not my favorite nib but it does click. I seem to recall you may have one tho...
@@SarahBaileyArts ohhh that’s tempting~ i didnt know the nibs were that great but i guess pilot are known for having consistent nib quality if i remember correctly. awesome 😆
@@SarahBaileyArts oh! i do like slimmer pens, i’ll have to check that one out, thank you! 🥰 i have a fake Lamy that im not too fond of but i think i do eventually want to add a lamy to my collection one day should the right colour come along.
I, too, use fountain pen nibs in a dip pen! It's the perfect way to test your inks as you said. This lined TRP; did you make the lines yourself or buy the paper lined? I've not been able to find it loose sheets and lined. Great video!
Wooow sooo pretty painting Awsome presentation,,,, good Shearing,,,,, and wait for your next videos,,,, lot,s of LOVE from (Rongwala)

You can make an ink reservoir from a can as well if you want to write a longer time or use flex and stub nibs.
Thank you for the video! Actually, I was searching for a video that shows how to use old fountain pens as dip pens, without removing the nib. Perhaps you can do another video on that. Thanks again!
You don't really need to do anything special, just dip and go... clean when done.
Great idea
Wow. Its my 1st time seeing someone has a ink sample in a form of a note book. Interesting

I tried this today, Jinhao F nib works great in my no name nib holder.
Awesome!
This was great! I have a Kakuno and will be trying this soon. Also want to do the reverse and try putting a G dip pen nib into a fountain pen. Thanks!

@@hildybean OOOOO Interesting, please do let me know how it goes!!
@@SarahBaileyArts will do. Not my original idea. I saw it somewhere in print or on UA-cam.

@@SarahBaileyArts Oh, maybe because those are super common? There are even drawing nibs out there...
@@SarahBaileyArts Anderson Pens has a stellar selection of NOS dip nibs of all kinds.
This is so clever! Such a good hack
What kind of paper is that swatch journal made of?? The sound!! ❤
I made it myself with Original Tomoe River 52 🥹

Huh, I had no idea, thanks for the sub!!! And I'm glad you're enjoying the content. I haven't posted in a while but may get back to it next month.
