The Rancor had a place with all my childhood toy lines. I liked using him as a Kaiju to fight my Super Powers Superman.
Same man, my Rancor used to attack Castle Grayskull all the time.
I used The Kraken from COTT and Great Mazinga from Shogun Warriors in a similar fashion, as a big boss fight with all of my figure lines back then.
What no one at the time knew was that the Wampa was actually a Pokemon, and was only able to communicate by speaking his own name with different inflections.
Here I thought that he was a distant cousin of Groot.
The creatures were always my favorite Star Wars toys. I would have loved a Sarlacc pit playset in the RotJ range. Those old commercials you included were great!
Yeah man
To have a sarlak pit I had to find a sandbox and some twigs to make the teeth
Great job - loved the old adverts
A few weeks ago I bought a replacement rancor box from replicator boxes and inserts with its top quality for us who can’t get mint Star Wars boxes.
Great video mate, lots of memories there. Love the old TV adverts too. The Bantha looks ace; can't wait to see part 2.
I love the Rancor. I finally got the vintage boy back in my collection with the POTF Rancor Keeper as his friend.
The creatures always added a bunch of play possibilities growing up. The beasts of burden duo of the Dewback and Tauntaun were always 2 of my favorites.
Very much looking forward to part 2 and your review of the Stan Solo's Bantha.
I predict that this fantastic " Kenner Star Wars Creature Feature Part 1 " mini documentary by Tony, for Analog Toys, will be a MONSTER hit! :)
The creatures in Star Wars were awesome toys. Really had a lot of possibilities with other toy lines as well
Great Video Tony!
5 Stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’m already looking forward to Part 2
Great video Tony. Had all but the Rancor as a kid. Picked that up in the90s from a comic shop. Great toy. Looking forward to part 2.
I remember one of my friends holding the Speeder Bike toy and running down the sidewalk and yelling "Speeder Bike! Speeder Bike!" kinda like the kid in the Wampa commercial.
I always wanted the Rancor. Though he was half the size of my Shogun Warriors Godzilla, I still wanted to put them together in a fight. Great Video as always.
As a kid, I was fascinated/horrified by all the wonderfully sculpted details inside Jabba's throne. Also cannot wait to receive my Slave Leia from Stan Solo!
Man I miss the cool doramas and play environments they used to make for tv commercials and catalogues. I used to drool over the Christmas catalogues enjoying that toy eye candy. I wish that came back somehow.
Excellent video Tony! Can’t wait for part 2.
As someone who had seen Return of the Jedi in theaters as a kid, a Sarlacc pit would've been a fun creature playset. I'm kinda surprised Haslab hasn't even planned on making one. I bet some enterprising fan would.
Perhaps my mind is in the gutter, but that thumbnail! 😂😂😂
Awesome memories of these. We never had but each visit to our cousins these toys got heavy use. Loved Rancor vs their Clash of the Titans' Kracken.
Awesome focus for some videos. Just seeing the Dewback up close in your video really brought back the tactile memory of holding one as a kid.
WAMPA! WAMPAAA!!!
Great video Tony! WAMPAAAA,
You sir....are an amazing human! I love your videos and the way you convey the message of the love of history and toys that all of us do. You seem to be a solid individual that has peace to himself that not many do. Thanks for being you!
The "Wampa, Wampa" line from the commercial has become a running joke with our family since my then 11-year-old began collecting Kenner Star Wars during the pandemic.
Oh what a cliffhanger to end on!!!!
Bring on Part 2!!!!!
Fantastic, fun video Tony! Loved it. Bring on the Stan Solo Bantha!!!!
"Wampa wampa!",..ha ha ha. Fun video to watch. I quite enjoyed this. Nice editing.
I love this video! Proud to still have my Dewback after all these years.
As kids my brothers and I were recreating the Wampa cave scene under my Grandfather's car (don't do this kids, it's dangerous) and at the end of our play time I hooked the arms to the cars undercarriage and left it there. I completely forgot where I'd left it. We went home shortly after which was a huge trip for us as we lived in the Northern Territory at the time and we were visiting Grandad in South Australia. We realised we lost our Wampa after we got home but I couldn't for the life of me remember where i had left it. Some time later my Grandad came to visit us and made the trip by car. When he arrived I remembered that we were playing under the car with the Wampa and that he was hooked underneath. Surely he wasn't still there!?! I had a quick look and he was gone. Grandad came over and asked if I was looking for something and handed me the Wampa. He was a little dinged up but otherwise fully intact. Apparently he had made it most of the way cross-country before Grandad had to check what the rattling was and there it was 😂
I love that story!
@@timothyward8695 the only damage to the Wampa was on one of its feet the toe had worn away. Small hole left behind. But still in playable condition
Amazing story!
@@AnalogToys mum still has the Wampa. I think she still had an attachment to it long after we stopped playing Star Wars due to that amazing experience
Awesome story.
Great video sir! Never had any of the creatures as a kid so this was really cool to see altogether. Would love to have a kenner rancor one day. Looking forward to part 2!!
What a fun video to watch, thanks Tony! As I was watching I thought the Wampaaaa was going to throw Luke. These figures are so durable to this day unlike other figures from this time, I’m sure he would have been fine. The Bantha’s are impressive.
I used to read Star Wars comic, where Jabba the Hutt was portrayed as a goat-like man creature, so I was very surprised to see him on screen as a giant slug.
My favourite creature? Has to be theTauntaun with the open belly. Massive playability and .......had one as a kid.
Champion vid as ever Tony lad.👍👏👏
This is a must watch channel. Phenomenal research and presentation as always!
Great video Tony, really enjoyed it.
That Jabba play feature reminds me of that scene in one crazy summer where the guy is buried in the sand and that larger dude sits in the chair placed as shade. Them…..he starts eating chili. Can you imagine being trapped right under jabba? That would be worse than being eaten by the rancor!
I recall some of my friends playing some of the Kenner SW creatures at the playground, most of these probably got sand when the owners get back home to watch some reruns of Saturday morning cartoons...such good times.
Great job with the video sir. Really fun stuff.
Fantastic review
Great creature feature Tony 🏆
Bet when the camera stops rolling he’ll be saying ‘wompa wompa wompa’ as he goes off and plays with it :)
The toy version of the Wampa has the face of a sad cat. Never looked scary at all.
Dewback was always my favorite. I used him as a pack animal with my Kenner Indiana Jones figs on many jungle adventures. I've patiently waited a year for the arrival of the Stan Solo Bantha... trap door and all (butt plugs not included 🤣). I loved the video and can't wait for part 2. Thank you!
I’ve never really gave the Kenner Star Wars “creatures” a lot of thought, aside from the rancor I’ve always just looked at them as sub toys, that is until now! Yet again another great video, well done 👏👍🤘
Awesome compilation
Great video. Learned a lot again👍
Great video my friend!
Great video tony
I only have so much shelf space, so getting both the rancor and dewback into my Star Wars sections takes some creativity. I had to thread the dewback tail under the battle-damaged X-wing between some background Storm Troopers. The rancor is kind of cupping the top of the Slave-1 in a "last gasp" type of pose. Must haves, but they take up so much room. Jabba is of course a centerpiece, so that's no problem, and the Hoth critters aren't too bad to find room for since they're more vertical. All work so well to turn your Star Wars display into a Star Wars world. Love your channel, man.
- Cheers from Tony in MD, USA
Really nice to see the return of this style of video Tony. I'm more on the "casual fan" end of things with 'Star Wars' but really enjoyed this video. Would quite like to see a similar video running through the various beasts and/or vehicles in vintage Masters of the Universe (that's always been my first love), of which there was quite a selection over the course of the line - some so-so, some really good.
Nice review Tony
Was that Ricky Schroder in the dewback commercial ?
My friends often debate this. How is Jabba classed as a creature by some collectors? Jabba is a talking character in trilogy. Jabba has a highly developed brain, articulate speech, self awareness etc. I guess if is because he does not utilise a humanoid character mold.
He’s a slug
@@AnalogToys I like your simplicity lol.
It's a shame Kenner never made the asteroid worm into toy form
Rancor is the only one missing from my collection
You had to be careful feeding the Rancor your Jawas, there was a very real danger they got lost in there!
Would the Sarlacc count as a creature? I kind of wish they have made something like it, if it only was some kind of plastic ring you placed over a hole you dug in your yard...
In one of the toy commercials they actually used a green bucket in a dug hole as a stand-in.
The ring idea sounds cool and could have also featured hinged tentacles that you would attach figures to and sort of flip them into the ring as an action feature.
Never had any of the creatures when they came out except for jabba they were just too many other cool Star Wars toys available at the time
Who knew the Wampa was a Pokemon?
Don't think the Dewback ever got a English/UK release, annoyed me as a kid the Rancor couldn't "Eat" a Gammorian guard
Auuu tony! U got 1! 😭😭😭😭 👍😭
I always considered Jabba as a large action figure and not a "creature". He was an actual character, an intelligent alien, not a ravenous beast.
He's a giant slug so yeah, he's a creature
Wompa! wompa!
WAMPA!
you tease!
6:06 WAMPA USE WANPA
I'm looking for a CM Punk action figure and a Casey Jones removable hockey mask
And the bag and some sports equipment
But I'm having trouble finding anything
Can anyone help?
Tony Where is the Bantha part 2 lol
Coming this weekend!
I gotta say, I wasn’t very impressed with the Wampa figure when I saw it, either. I passed on it and chose to get the open belly Tauntaun, instead.
I made the right decision. The Tauntaun has more play value - and the sculpt is much nicer.
I think Kenner could’ve done a better job with the Wampa.
It’s still a good-looking figure, but it could’ve been better.
Never owned the Dewback. Always wanted one, since first seeing it on my STAR WARS Luke: X-Wing Pilot card in 1979.
The Rancor beast, I did see in person, in store, in 1984.
I wanted it, but couldn’t afford it. The packaging was beat to hell, others must’ve been trying to open it in-store to get a look at it.
I do own Jabba. He’s a better figure than a play-set.
Salacious Crumb is a waste of plastic - as is the Dianoga trash monster.
It’s a tragedy that the Bantha was never produced by Kenner. The toy should’ve been part of the original STAR WARS lines - alongside the Dewback.
Cmon man
I was those kid's age and I could have done better in those commercials
The animatronic Dewback looks awesome and lifelike, then you see that CGI sh*t show and it looks so laughable in the film. Even the toy looks better, the leg proportions look right, the CGI legs look like tiny chicken feet. Man, I hate the Special Editions.
I was always a fan of the Rancor toy. What I'm not a fan of is Star Wars canon making Rancors out to actually be, "emotionally complex and loving creatures"(!?) 🙄👎
