Well if the outside world didnt treat beating us like a world championship then you may not see bron but tram USA has a target on their back
Watching these JJ videos about team USA made me realize how prevalent foreign bigs are in the nba. You got embiid, jokic, Sabonis, giannis, Steven adams, gobert, kat, ayton, vucevic, valanciunas, siakam, and more. And a lot of these players are huge for their respective teams.
Yeah people like to talk about the 90s as the golden era of centers and I think a lot of that was due to there not being quality international depth at the position. The 7-8 guys who were Hall of Famers got to pad their numbers beating up on a bunch of players who wouldn't cut it in today's game.
Even now, imagine if you took 90% of the guys off that list and NBA teams have to replace them with American players - someone like Naz Reid would be an above-average starting center and there would be a bunch of current G league players getting legitimate rotation minutes.
KAT and Sabonis are Americans born in the USA. And fyi The USA still has more bigs and more depth at the 5. If you weren’t a casual you’d know this. AD, Jaren, KAT, Sabonis, Evan Mobley, Myles Turner, Christian Wood, Javale McGee, Thomas Bryant, Bam Adebayo, Brook Lopez, Hassan Whiteside, Kevon Looney, Richaun Holmes, Robin Lopez, Dwight Howard, Jalen Duran, Marvin Bagley, Jarrett Allen, Mitchell Robinson, Demarcus Cousins, DeAndre Jordan, Jaxon Hayes, Mo Bamba, Mason Plumlee, Cody Zeller, Luke Kornet, Jay Huff, Moses Brown, Chet Holmgren, Zach Collins, James Wiseman, Johnathan Isaac, Shall I proceed?
@@HurleyGonzalez no you proved my point pretty well where you're listing guys like Whiteside and Cousins, who didn't even play in the league last year, let alone this year, as possible starting centers.
@@nolang1 So Just because they weren’t in the NBA league last year, you’re gonna deny and invalidate them as professional basketball players? As if they still can’t impact the game in many different ways.
Suit up, JJ!🏀
JJ I think the Fareed stat is telling, you need one hustle rebound guy to balance out the talent. I think sticking a Kevon looney or a Bam in there might give more value than even a AD or embiid at times
FIBA crowds the paint with bigs. You really need bigs that hustle. See how Austin Rivers was straight up bullied in the post.
I would pick one of those hustle guys (preferably a 7footer to defend the other team's 7footers) and AD
Fareed did very well in that World Cup and he bullied everyone. In FIBA there is almost no one that can match that energy and hustle. Jackson disappointed me a lot, I was expecting him to do the same, adding some 3s. But he was too soft.

In each of the Fiba/Olympics I have watched, Durant has the been the USA's most important player because of his otherworldly scoring ability. The last Olympics was another example. The USA don't win gold without him.

Yeah I would have to assume he declined to play given a guy who is his backup was on team USA.
Its not so much continuity of players but more so continuity of style that the other teams benefit from
You don’t need star power at every position. Not everyone picked needs to be a #1 option. We need glue guys. We need defense and rebounding, passing and shooting.

AD, BroLo, Turner, and RWIII would be my bigs. We have enough playmaking forwards already.
The main problem for the USA team is that everybody they send are Stars or go to guy in their respective teams. Everybody has that superstar are star player mindset and most of them thrive on iso plays or sets that are designed specifically for them, and for them to be in a team that they would be a role player they somewhat struggle. And that's what Euro teams expose about the new USA team, europeans are well adept with these FIBA and Olympic rules, and their advantage against the US is that these players are great role players, few of them are stars and that is why they make the system run better.
If the US can bring players or superstars who can thrive as a role player like Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Austin Reaves, guys like Kessler, Tucker, or A Tyson Chandler type big they surely dominate the tourneys. Isn't that what they did before with the 2012 2014 2026 team.
Remember when team owners were trying to block their players from playing for their national teams?
It's not happening now? Are the players blocking themselves?
In the past, it was mostly due to insurance issues in case they got injured. Players that do sit out probably do so for personal reasons (injury risk, personal development, already injured).

@@OtakuTalkOD Not the original dream team, the only dream team. It had 3 top 5 players of all time in it. that team will never be matched. However, this idea that your best players won't lose is hiarious to me. Funniest thing is the players on this USA squad were not even bums, they are the up and comming stars of the league. Shii, i saw people saying Ant edwards is the second best SG in theleague behind devin booker hahaha.

Not true...the top players are winners with expectation. Top players ant brunson bridges are not winners with title expectations
Lebron said AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!!!!!😂😂😂😂
What I find interesting is that NBA role players have no problem stepping up into a bigger role on international teams. But NBA stars always struggle with becoming role players on team USA. And yes they are “used to more ball/shots” but the normal role players are used to catch and shoots and not ball handling. I think it’s a lack of acceptance from NBA stars of taking a lesser role for their team. Their whole career has been built of them being the man and they can’t handle becoming 4th string guy
That might be it but I think it’s more cus it’s a lot harder of a skill to suppress yourself as a player. These nba stars have been used to being the center of a team for years, sometimes dating back to college, so it becomes more difficult to adapt to only doing one job. Ingram being a good example. But for a lot of role players, they may have been the man in college, but the talent pool in the nba is so advanced that they get fit into a lesser role. They’re still working on all these other skills like ball handling and other skills during the offseason that they have the capability to have the role in the nba, they just don’t get the opportunity. So when they do get the opportunity for their national team, it’s like all this work and practice shows during FIBA games.
Ant, Tatum, AD, Steph, Bam, Dame, Bridges, Jimmy, KD, Lebron, Fox, Booker
Curry has to commit. Has he ever played in the Olympics ? I don't think he did. Last run for Bron and first&last for Curry. It would be amazing to see both of them compete together in the same team. Oh man I can't image the amount of heavyweight players Team USA will gathered to Paris. They just gotta make things correct it s useless to call 4 PG and just one center. Having too much ball handlers also i snot great players like Thompson should be considered instead of Mitchell or Brown. The team has to make sense. A team similar to the 17' Warriors would be great : Curry and another guard who can shoot like Booker & Thompson, Lillard as a backup PG or Fox/Irving, KD and Tatum, Bron as a facilitator and Green/Gordon as his backup and an athletic center with size who block shot like Turner or even Robinson and an all-around defender like Bam.
USA could definitely have won the tournament with this team. The problem is not the players, it is how you make them play. Steve Kerr, Spoelstra and Lue have been awful getting exposed by german and lituanian coaches. They couldn't propose anything out of switching on every screen in defense and Isolation offense. That was some of the poorest tactical coaching I have seen.
It was Kerr running the team it's all his scheme and his small ball didn't work putting Hart in starting 5.
@@politicfrog I don't think Kerr took that decision by himself. They all agreed with it. It is also Spoelstra and Lue responsability. They just bad choices one after the other.

Also important to grab Bam, like JJ notes; as well as other big time defenders and 2 way players. For instance, why NOT Draymond? I’m actually glad that u mentioned AG, he’s definitely one of the guys that could’ve made a huge impact if he was on team USA. That being said here’s my list
Jimmy
Gordon
PG
Tatum
KD
Steph
Bam
Brown
AD
LeBron
Jrue
Jarrett
I know Jrue and Jarrett are probably not household names but Jrue is an elite defender for his position and has exceptional playmaking skills. Jarrett on the other hand has size, athleticism, and one of the best elite defenders in the league right now. So they will fit their role nicely on the squad
Joel should play for Cameroon 🇨🇲
It doesn't matter who the US put out on the floor for the Olympics if they don't play defense. That has been the reason why team USA has lost in the past. That was the reason they got Kobe for the Redeem Team cause the effort wasn't there especially on the defensive side.
Canadian here and old enough to remember the frustration where the Russians kept on winning in the World Championships and Olympics in Hockey. This was a time when Canadian professionals were are not allowed to play in the Olympics since they were professionals while the Russian players were called amateurs since they were in the army but really spent their days practicing hockey with a lot of expenses taken care of by the government (pros without being called pros). After complaining by us Canadians we had the eight game SUMMIT SERIES where Canada could finally put our best against Russia's best (Bobby Hull was not allowed to play for Canada but another story). So what happened? An overconfident Canada underestimated their opponent. Canada did win the series by one game out of eight but learned the Russians could play and they took the Canadian pros to the wall
PG - Curry, Irving, Morant
SG - Booker, Edwards
SF - James, Durant, Tatum
PF - Davis
C - Embid, Adebayo, Looney
If Embid chooses to play, otherwise I'd add Jaylen Brown or Draymond Green.
I like how you guys list 12 people before even listing the best American big.
I was almost upset about the snubbing of AD, only for JJ to choose him over Joel. I ain't mad at that, AD is a defensive MONSTER!!
