- Let's do this! The Cult of Hockey podcast. By the Faithful and for the Faithful, tonight with Bruce McCurdy and David Staples. Tonight they dig into Edmonton's 5-3 win over the Panthers of Florida with their 2 Good Things, 2 Bad Things, 2 Numbers and 1 Conundrum podcast
Brown covered his $775K in the regular season and has more than covered his $4M bonus in the postseason. That third line with Rico and Janmark has been a Godsend in the past two games.
Game 5 cup final. That is a 10! Dude is carrying us on his back. Just magical at the most important moments of the year! Biggest moments of his life!
I was of little faith after Oilers started 3-0 in the series. But i am thrilled that we have won the last two. So proud of a team that never quits. It’s still an uphill climb, but this could be magical. Definitely a new story for a Hyman book.
If they can win on Friday Edmonton's downtown is gonna go over the top!!

What a game, what a come-back in the making. Browns goal was pure redemptive glory and, yes, McDavid is turning in the magic at the hour of need. This is an incredibly special thing to witness.

I watched McD's assist on Perry's goal at .25 speed, and his stick movement still looks lightning fast. Hard to see is how he lifts his stick one more quick time to avoid a final attempted stick check before he passes.
I do the exact same thing! There is SO much to what he does, that only becomes apparent in slo-mo...he is an alien among us...he has to be.
@@hhiibbaalleerr Yessir, if not an alien, then the cutting edge of evolution in hockey genetics. Another thing that makes him a super human is his class and diplomacy, including with overenthusiastic fans (of which I'd probably be one).

Thumbs up for your Podcast. It answers all the questions i have after a game. My hometown boy Leon lets me down a little bit, but i hope he recovers for the last two games. its a long time ago that i have seen him playing so bad especially in the d-zone. Brown is definitiv my no 1 positiv in the final. My second is McDavid finally doing McDavid things. Lets go Oilers!!!

As long as Bobrovsky keeps playing like he is... don't see the Oilers being shut out again, in fact 4 or 5 goals looks like a good floor for their scoring. Power play is looking like it did earlier. If the Oilers win the next game handily.... lol, Florida will be playing with fear.

What a mirror type game in many ways. Game 4 Oilers open with a SHG. Game 5 we open with a SHG. After that it changes in that we get a PP Goal, a 5 on 5 goal, another PP Goal and an Empty Netter. Bob stayed in net this time though he still gave up 4 goals (the EN doesn't count against him). The Goals by the Panthers didn't look horribly hard but they went in. Stu did what Stu had to do. He played an above average game and made saves when it mattered. Hyman, Foegele, Perry and Tkachuk for Florida are off the Schnide. How was it put, we wanted to DRAG THEM BACK TO ALBERTA FOR GAME 6. We're Dragging them folks. Hoping the guys can win that one and bring it to an epic game 7 (where the Oilers win of course but I'm an Oilers supporter). Looking at the stats the only ones that scream out are we had double the blocks and they had more hits and were better in the faceoff circle and they shot about 1/3 more shots (depending on how you measure it).
McDavid actually faked the head deflection on his first goal then beat Bob while he was still upright
yes, that Bouchard play was (tragically} funny. On the replay I could not believe that Bouch was so far North of the play. Wake up. This would have been a less stressfully game (for) me.
post interview statements from the oil suggest the players are having fun. I think that's the message Knoblauch is sending to the players. Play with no pressure and have some fun out there. Seems to be resonating with the players.
The Nurse Ratio Meter will go down in hockey history as the only player on the ice that can win you the game or lose you the game. For every great one single play Nurse makes he makes 3 bad ones. Nurse somehow finds ways of inexplicably swaying the game in either team's favor. It's a gut wrenching coin toss as to what he'll do next and how his on ice decisions will affect the outcome of the game. I don't know if it's nervousness, bad luck or just sheer stupidity. Yet Knoblauch keeps using Nurse like the one guy that will save the day. I just don't get it. Go Oilers!
Unfortunately Draisaitl has and will seemingly continue to be a non factor in the Stanley Cup Finals due to OBVIOUSLY being severely injured somewhere. Let's just hope his will to fight doesn't become a horrific liability at the wrong time...or at anytime for that matter. Go Oilers!

Although I'm Panthers fan because of the finnish players on that team, I can't help but be happy for you too 😂. If Edm really finishes this would-be epic comeback and Connor McDavid lifts the cup, it would be brilliant for hockey in general...ok, 1 or 2 games left in this first-dull-then-hilarious series, let the best team win 😊.

Florida won 3 straight to start the series.......... The Oil only need to do the same +1, which we know they are quite capable of.
The missed blatant hook on Holloway late too, he nearly cost us that game.
love the coach but it seemed 2 or 3 times the oilers scored and next shift a nervous jittery darnell nurse was on scrambling around

What was Knoblauch thinking continuing to stick Nurse out there at the biggest tide turning moments of the game especially when Nurse was the cause of those 1000 ft. Tidal wave moments? Just baffling. Knoblauch loves playing with fire. Tonight McDavid, Brown and Skinner saved Knoblauch's ass with some if his inexplicable knucklehead coaching decisions.
Give it a rest, don't turn this euphoric feeling into trashing Nurse.

come on guys, they missed Bennett cracking Kulak in the face with a glove and stick in the crease a half second before the Panthers scored, Tkachuk i think, anyway typical Bennett attempt to injure, same smack as he 'accidentally' put on Marchard, and even on McDavid 'accidentally' earlier in the series
both dekes in game one the Oilers were on crack, could have slipped it through the five hole like they always do but instead tried to beat his pad outside, dumb and useless and didnt work, no idea why they tried that in game one, deke and go through the open hole between the legs , this is 2024, not 1980

Nurse should get some credit for the Perry goal. Nurse was supposed to jump on the ice but he saw McDavid rush and yelled to Perry to jump on instead because Perry was at the end of the bench and could jump ahead of the Panthers defense

It was not his worst game, but He owed the team a goal after leaving Tkachuk alone to score and give Panthers momentum.
He said he had more to give after Game 4. I have not seen it yet.

... well, I'm manning up and confessing my calling this series a sweep for the Flo-Rida Panthers , and here we are heading into Game #6 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. I was satisfied with the Oilers winning the 'Western Conference Championship', although they still need to win 2 more to win the cup, this will be an unprecedented achievement seeing how this 2023/2024 season began. I apologize to this magical team. GOAL OILERS GOAL!!!🤟🤪
All series, the Panthers have been practicing for the upcoming Olympics.
Their main problem is that the water is frozen.

Henrique with a soft pass up the boards to a florida player and seconds later they scored to make it 4-3. Brutal play there when he had time and space. Other than that he was good

Oooiii-llerrzzz!!! I don't think McDavid's 1st goal was due to puck luck or bad goaltending -- as he dipsy-doodled with his Davovision he foresaw a puck-sized hole opening up between the pad and the back of the net and he quickly got the proper angle and bounced it in before it closed. All deliberate. El Capitan is giving the Janitor some competition for the Conn Smythe. Se necesita una poca de gracia!

Until they win game 6 and it becomes a 50/50 shot I am still cautiously optimistic. But no matter what happens no real disappointment. So proud of our boys 30th to SCF no quit in them. Battling so hard. Its been a heck of a ride this season.
After the third period of game 3, I just had faith that this series would be going to a game 6. I thought they finally opened the flood gates and I felt like game 4 would be a 4-1 or 5-2 game, followed by a game where the Oilers would come out to an early lead and then let the Panthers get back into the game and it would end up being a nail biter, giving Florida the momentum for game 6 where they would get the early lead and stifle the Oilers and win the cup. So far, I've been fairly accurate. I really hope I'm wrong about game 6 though.
They need more out of Draisaitl, and McLeod. Broberg is going to get exposed so long as Nurse leaves him out to dry. And Holloway needs to limit his mistakes. Florida was absent this game until that major mistake turned into a goal. That first goal woke up Tkachuck which isn't good news.
Love their analysis which is usually right on! The Tkachuk goal from the Holloway lost puck battle and caused by Draisaitl , Bouchard and Eckholm defensive miss steps. The Oilers still won which is all that counts. The coaching staff will analyse these mistakes and try to correct.
I am rooting for the Oilers to make these two happy campers and myself happy for life....
ahh Bruce shut up about all the stupid little records. We can talk about all the records after Mcdrai gets a Stanley Cup. Until then it means nothing
or it won't. (what it will come down to) The OIL might continue to have better goaltending than FLA. ...and not make it close. That's my projection.

Again, Oilers B plus game got it done. Pressure now shifting to the Panther players. Oilers can still play better and I don't think Panthers can skate with the Oilers on home ice here, where the ice is much better. And I'm sure the Panthers know that. Lol, next game will be another great game, look for Dria to get 3!
