Hi Alex, I am about to get a 2021 Forester in a couple of weeks after driving a 2008 Kia for 13 years. As I am 77 years young and technology challenged your videos are a lifesaver for me. You had my head swimming when I watch your video on all the buttons on the Forester...you can believe I will be watching it over and over until I get my new car. Thank you so much!
Hello from another Gail! I got my 2021 Forester in March and these videos are soooooo helpful! I still go back from time to time to watch them. Enjoy your new car, it's a great one! :-)
I know this is an old video, but at 82 I have just ordered a 2023 Forester, (an upgrade from my present 2011 outback). Looks like I will be watching a lot of the Alex video's . lol
There is one very important feature that you forgot to mention. If the battery in the key fob is dead, you can not only open your car with the traditional key that slides out but you can also start your car electronically. For that you have to hold your key fab close to your start button and the tiny induction field that your key fab generates is enough is then to start your car.
This also applies to Toyota & Lexus. On all other brands, the spot to hold remote may not always be the start button. It is a great idea to verify, BEFORE you are stuck at night, in the dark, in the cold. it is all in the owner's manual. Also, be sure to use the hidden key once a month, and lube the door lock with Houdini lube or Silicone spray ONLY. Otherwise lock will seize up from lack of use or hardened lubrication.
Yes, and no. If you have a power lift gate, go kneel down and look above your license plate. You'll see the backup camera, the button for manually activating the power lift. And to the far right a small black button. You can program that - before your remote dies, with a 5 digit sequence which will unlock the car even without the key or fob. Only one guy shows how to program it. I bought my '16 outback used and I can't get it to program... Thinking it was previously done...
I like your videos very much. Your speech pattern is clear and at a comfortable pace and your explanations are simple and clear. As a 69 year-old, I truly appreciate this. Keep up the good work!
Just bought a 2022 Outback Limited and learned that when the liftback is automatically opening or closing, you can press the liftback button on your fob to pause. Very useful when, for example, you have a kayak on the roof that would otherwise cause the hatch to bounce back to close.
So far I have gone out to the garage twice and found my lift gate up. I must have leaned against something and accidentally pressed the button. I think the key fobs would benefit greatly with a flip cover to protect the buttons from accidental activation.
Alex, I have all your videos saved and watch them often. I have told my dealer to make them for each model put them on flash drives and give them to new owners. You provide a great service and Subaru should pay you!
I am the recent proud owner of a 2021 Outback XT Touring... The trunk lock button also locks all the doors, fuel cap and folds the mirrors not just the trunk. If you use the door handle sensor on the passenger side it unlocks all the doors - These settings are programmable in the menu system .. I have mine set to unlock all the doors when opening the tailgate.. Also I have mine set to lock all the. Doors as soon as I move the selector out of P rather than while moving. The technology in this car is awesome :-) ...

You had 30 subscribers when you started and now 50 K! I have a 2021 Subaru Forester Sport and I've learned so much by watching your videos. Thank you so much!
The keyless proximity sensor normally only unlocks just the drivers side but you can change it in the settings to unlock all doors when in proximity. Great for moms
Thanks Alex! My rental is an Outback and I didn’t realize the blue Subaru logo was the unlock button. Yesterday I couldn’t unlock it to get my daughter out. I opened the hatch and she was able to unlock the door herself. I was in a rush when I picked up the rental so I had no time to acclimate myself to the vehicle. I pulled up your video and within 2 minutes, problem solved. It really helped because I was traveling and I needed to lock the car!!
I have been a proud owner of a 2022 Forester Limited for 8 days. Although my salesman was helpful in going over all the features, it's just too much to absorb during the purchase process. The dealership is not local (but they found the car I wanted in less than a week) so it is not handy to drop by for additional help. The cadence of your voice makes it easy for me to follow your guidance. Thanks for the time you spend to help so many of us.
Thank you Alex! I just purchased a 2021 Subaru Forester Limited in May 2021! Now I know where the key is for my lock box!!! I was in a terrible car accident in May 2021 and grateful to be alive 🙏 My car was totaled and was heartbreaking for me to let go of my 2004 Forester, I was first owner and was in excellent condition plus low mileage since I didn’t drive very far/much. Thanks again for your video!
Thank you Alex. Your video on the FOB was, excellant. We have a 2020 Forester with the 15 package. And your video taught us much that we didn't know. The FOB is an expensive item. When we purchased the Forester, I really wanted another FOB. We have 3 drivers, and we just grab whatever vehicle is handy. Today, I'm going to pick up our new car. When we get it, we will own 3 late model Subarus. There are so many features that we are not familiar with. Another is the auto light feature. Your video is a much needed feature. Thank you
If you haven;t done so already, you might do a short vid on how to change the battery in the key fob. After 5 years, the warning light came on indicating low battery in the fob. It was fairly easy to change the battery. We did so on both of our fobs.
Hi Alex, I'm in Australia and I have just picked up my new MY22 Forester. Dealer didn't tell me anything about the features so your videos are brilliant and so informative. I am hopeless with modern technology so I'm learning so much from you. Thank you so much. Love your videos. Keep them coming. 💜
We picked up our 2022 Crosstrek today. They went over a LOT of the features & I go back in a couple of weeks for a more thorough orientation. Compared to the ML350 I had, this is like learning an F-18! This was really helpful for a first-day user, as was your vid on programming the garage door button. Thanks.
Hi Alex, could you verify regarding that you need 3 clicks on the fob to arm the alarm. Some say that 1 click on the fob or the 3 lines on the door handle or the lock button on tailgate will activate the alarm. They said the 3 clicks is some sort of discreet vehicle finder instead of triggering the panic button. Thanks
I am new to Subaru since May 2022 with a 2018 Outback Limited and loving it. Thanks Alex for your great videos, you are clear and concise and I appreciate all your efforts to help us get the most out of our vehicles. I watched this video previously and have been clicking 3 times and have come back to find my car unlocked. I did more internet searching, and I have read the same as the comment above, so I thought it was me hitting the button too many times and unlocking it. I then tried only 1 click and I do see the flashing light on the dash, so I am thinking this is the alarm. However I am now still finding my car unlocked. When I say unlocked I mean I put my hand on the driver handle and I do not feel or hear it click to unlock. I try the handle and it's unlocked already. I do not understand why anyone would want to lock the car but not enable the alarm. If anyone has similar experience please let me know. Thanks.
I don't know if you've ever mentioned it to customers, but the power rear gate on subarus is probably one of the best ones out there - they lift up high enough that you won't hit your head trying to put stuff in the trunk (like a Toyota), and they open fast enough that you don't feel like you're being slowed down by them (unlike a Toyota.)
Thank you for your videos...I watched them before I bought my 2022 forester limited...I just picked it up and am rewatching all your videos... this one helped me alot... the dealer did not go thru the key fob with me... At this point I'm too lazy to read the manuals.... keep up the good work... your videos are great!!
I didn't realize the Subaru logo was the door unlock. I couldn't understand why the doors weren't opening with the unlock button. Which was actually the lift gate button. That's why I watch your videos. Thanks
As far as I can tell, my 2017 Outback has the same fob and all the features you showed except for the gas cap, so this info is good for more than just a couple model years
Great video Alex. You may want to mention in the future that the tailgate has a memory setting and explain how to set that up for others. I had to read through the manual to find out that was a thing
I recently bought my first Subaru! It's a 2017 Outback with low mileage and I got a GREAT deal on it as well. I subscribed to your channel! You do an excellent job thoroughly explaining the features of the vehicles you preview! Id like to see some videos on the 2017 Outback. I realize it's an older vehicle but mine's new to me right?!!!!!! Keep the awsome videos coming Alex! You're doing great!
We just acquired a 2019, 3,000 miles, from an auntie that passed. I've seen some vids but the item may not be available on models as ours and yours. Hope Alex explains which Subaru does or doesn't have what he is telling us...really enjoy his vids...learning a lot...!
Hi Alex I’ve watched several of your videos and the info has really helped me when I went to buy my Forester. Just wanted to say thanks and let you know how much your videos have helped! Now I’ll be watching so I can get comfortable driving it!
Hello. Thank you for all of your videos. My local dealership just took my 2019 Forrester back because it had such low mileage and they put me into a new lease for a 2021. These videos have been super helpful because I didn’t do the big info session that we did when I got the 2019. Thanks for these and so glad to see your subscription numbers rising.
Thank you! I did not know about the standard hidden key, the lock touch sensors OR the three push fob lock to activate the alarm. Awesome channel! I have 3 Subaru’s currently. A 2010 outback, 2019 outback and 2020 forester. 👍🏼👌
Hi Alex I just traded my 2018 Forester for a2022 Acsent , l will get it in a couple of days . I am still learning thinks for the Forester from your videos and I will keep watching your videos to learn more for the Accent. Thanks for your videos they are very helpful , thanks from Canada !
And, in case you ever need audio cues to tell if the car is locked or unlocked (hit the key fob without looking at it, it's dark, etc.) ONE beep equals lock, TWO equals unlock. Just like the number of syllables in each word.
Love your videos, Alex. I feel like I learn a new Jedi mind trick every time I watch one. Bought my Outback used and they didn’t really tell me all of the bells and whistles that it comes with, but you do!
I have driven that Onyx edition of the 2021 and boy, is it nice! I was given a white one to drive while they fixed what they screwed up when they rotated the tires but didn’t do a front end alignment nor balanced the wheels. You can’t rotate the tires on a 2 year old car without doing that!. 🤦🏻♀️ But anyway… You have helped me so much! I bought my 2019 Forester Limited (with lots of added extras) new in 2019 and I didn’t learn anything about it. They went over it so fast and the book is ridiculously big and confusing. I was supposed to go to the dealer for “lessons” but Covid happened so it never did! I knew some things but I have been driving in the dark, so to speak, regarding other things. This car has so much on it, it was just overwhelming. You’ve taught me so much! Okay 2 years late! 🤷🏻♀️ I love how friendly you are!. Thank you!
You do a great job !! Just bought my second Subaru , 2022. Love it ! Your video helped . Much better than the salesman ! Thanks and keep the videos coming….. Ed
I also want to thank you for all the videos. I have a new 21 Forester and trying to learn all I can about the different buttons. You have been so very helpful and I will keep watching!!! Thanks again!!!
I just purchased a new to me 2021 Outback onyx with only 7200 miles.. I Have never own a Subaru before so a lot to learn. So far I love this car. Watched many of your videos before I bought it and now going back and watching some of them again.. Your doing do a awesome job for this newbie. Thanks Wish i could get the My Subaru app to work but it has this cars vin# already in so I can't do anything right now..Good job Alex.
Thanks for the video. A few of my fav functions are the remote start using the fob, pausing the rear lift gate by hitting the button a second time when it is raising and putting the fob in sleep mode so that I can store it in the vehicle.
Great content! I've had an Outback Limited since 2016 and never knew about clicking 3 times to set alarm or locking car with keyfob in my purse by touching the 2-lined sensor. Just got a 2022 Outback Wilderness in white "Storm Trooper" and want to learn about the cool updates on the newer models. Thanks for posting! You have a new subscriber :)
I found out the problem. I always kept the 2nd set in my car and that was the reason the handle didnt work. I challenge anyone to find that in the manual. Thanks for your help, keep up the good work-Mike
Alex, your videos have saved me, as I'm an elderly woman with a new car. Sometimes I worry whether the car is actually locked, as I lock by clicking the lock button on the driver's door, but I'm still close by with the key in my pocket. I can't check, because when I try to open the door, I can, due to key in pocket. When I get out and walk away, is the car actually locked?? Thank you!!
Wow.... I hope someone please answers this question since we live in a high crimb area. Maybe try putting the fob in the house far away and approach the car empty handed? Signed... Elderly guy 😁
So helpful! Thanks! I just purchased a 2022 Subaru and the keyfob was a bit of a mystery to me because I forgot a lot of what the dealer told me. I really like the "emergency" key. I didn't know about that.
love your videos Alex! So very informative & helpful! Love that you are clear on which Subaru models your video applies to. I just purchased my first Subaru (Imprezza) so it's all new technology to learn. Very impressed with Subaru engineering so far. And again thank you for your videos, keep them coming!
Thank you! I recently bought a new Outback 2022 and am learning all about it. Your videos certainly help me to figure it all out......keep posting....very helpful....
Alright, so, I just traded in my 07 Impreza for a 22 Outback Onyx (in Madrid, Spain. A shame Subaru does not sell Wilderness' or WRX anymore in Europe!), and the guy from the dealership had it all wrong. I was told there is no unlock button on the fob, and to use the proximity sensors to do that instead, which has not been working as expected... Thank you so much for this video :)
Hi Alex, great video! I had something happen today with the key for the first time. I locked the car via the little strips on the handle and did some shopping. When I returned, the door wouldn't open either by grasping the handle, nor did the electronic key work. I used the manual key, and once I opened the door, the security alarm went off. It stopped once I started the car. Later on in the day, everything seemed to work as normal. I'd like to know for future reference if there is a reason this happened. I have a 21 Subaru Forester, Ltd. Thank you!
If someone is inside a locked car, with their key, the door will remain locked for a secondary remote. I suspect you had another key in the car, which was actually used by car to lock the car when you touched the handle.
The key inside the fob saved me a while back. I'd bought a couple forty pound bags of sunflower seed for the goldfinches, and since it was icy I got in and started the engine to start the defrost. When I got out to put the bags in the back, I accidently let the door swing and the first notch of the latch clicked. I found every door was locked even though the driver door was only partly closed. None of the buttons on the fob worked and I was beginning to panic when I thought of the key.
Alex, I just watched two of your videos (about the 2021 Outback). They were very helpful....better than most of the videos on Outbacks I've seen. On one you were using a dead cat microphone cover. Thanks for doing that. As someone who has made a living doing voice-overs, radio announcing and TV work over the last 40 years I have a couple of recommendations that will help you stand out. Begin every video with a brief introduction, and I mean brief. Your name, where you work, subject of your video. Please, please do not use phrases such as: "hi guys", "hey guys", "what's up guys" "how ya doin' guys", "hope you guys have a great day" etc, etc. Another thing to avoid would be starting phrases or sentences with words such as: "So", "Aaaand" or similar words and phrases. Thanks for looking professional (beard trimmed, clean shirt, hat on straight, etc.) and speaking clearly.
Hey Mike! Thanks for checking out my channel and I appreciate the feedback. I’ve certainly made some mistakes with my videos in the past. You may notice some of them that you’ve mentioned 😅 Working on creating better content each day. Thank you!
My new 22 wrx i did this all at the dealer very quickly and realized i had everything backwards after fighting it 3 times today pressing the lock button over and over on the handle realizing it wouldnt unlock lmao. Glad im not crazy just totally misunderstood how the keyless worked, i was also told to just hold the lock on the keyfob for 3 seconds and it would unlock, didnt realize til now that the subaru logo is a button also and is what is the real unlock button backup.. i was so backwards with everything haha
Alex, Very much enjoy the content that you post. Without doubt, it helped decide on the Forester Wilderness. I think an article on the importance of a 5 tire rotation would be very beneficial. I recently took my Wilderness in for it's first service here in California and although I pointed out the need for the full rotation and was promised that it would be done the techs only did a 4 tire rotation. Obviously, this is a safety, environmental and economic concern. Properly rotated tires last longer. I feel it would be helpful to techs and owners alike. Please keep up the good work. Mark
Maybe its different for older models, but for the 2024 Crosstrek per the manual the security alarm is armed as soon as you lock the doors. You don't have to hit the lock button 3 times. All that does is sound the horn once if looking for your car.
ALEX thank you for all of your help on your videos I’m going to be purchasing a Subaru outback very shortly behind it off feature auto start auto stop it’s been a very big concern of mine thank you for taking the many worries that I’ve had and making much more sense out of the whole system take care God bless you for doing all these great videos I wish we had more people with your integrity and caring sincerely STEVE JONES
Thanks Stephen! None that I’m aware of 😕 you can put your key in sleep mode, which disables the connection to the proximity sensors. In that case, you would have to manually unlock the car with the physical key that’s inside of the key fob.
Can and how do I delete radio stations that were added by ignorance when I first got my 2021 outback touring xt? I love your detail and instruction that is so clear.
Yes, you can either replace that station with a new one by clicking and holding on the station you want. Or you can factory reset it within the center display near the gauge cluster. Let me know if you still have questions on how to do this.

Also I upgraded to a touring edition and I am loving it.
@@mstephens7thanks for watching Michael! I appreciate that. Glad my videos have been helpful for you!
Thank you! I did not know about the standard hidden key, the lock touch sensors OR the three push fob lock to activate the alarm. Awesome channel! I have 3 Subaru’s currently. A 2010 outback, 2019 outback and 2020 forester. 👍🏼👌
Thanks for watching! Happy to hear you’ve learned something new about your Subarus!
Great to hear! 😃
🤦🏻♀️ But anyway…
You have helped me so much! Thank you!
Yes, the onyx is a fun one to drive! Plus it looks really good 😎 I’m glad to hear that I’ve been able to help. Thank you for watching!
Really appreciate all the great information on Subaru.👍 fantastic tutorials. I’ve learned so much.
Thanks Debby! Happy to hear my videos have been helpful to you 😊
Great videos! Very informative!
1:50 is where the information starts. Great video, just skip the first 1:50.
I just bought a new Forster so I’m finding your videos very helpful.
Thanks so much
Scott from Massachusetts where Subarus are everywhere
Thanks
I found out the problem. I always kept the 2nd set in my car and that was the reason the handle didnt work. I challenge anyone to find that in the manual. Thanks for your help, keep up the good work-Mike
Ah I see! Glad you got it figured out
@@alexpmo by any chance do you know how to turn off that annoying seat belt reminder?
Thanks for the tip about the manual key. I thought the release button was for the battery compartment 😂
I just replaced my 2015 Subaru Legacy with a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Limited, so far I am loving it!
Omg look at how far you have come!
Thanks a lot! With so much technology, I keep thinking I’m missing out on tons of features. (My car is a 2020 Outback Touring XT)
The touring has it all! 😃
love your videos Alex! So very informative & helpful! Love that you are clear on which Subaru models your video applies to. I just purchased my first Subaru (Imprezza) so it's all new technology to learn. Very impressed with Subaru engineering so far. And again thank you for your videos, keep them coming!
Glad you like them! Thank you for watching!
Ty so much
Thank you! I recently bought a new Outback 2022 and am learning all about it. Your videos certainly help me to figure it all out......keep posting....very helpful....
Thanks Barbara!
Very useful. The information is very valuable and conveyed in a manner that is clear and concise
Thanks for watching and thanks for the compliment!
Please discuss what to give to valet person …KeyFOB or removable key from FOB for safety’s sake
Also the remote start option with the same remote!
Your videos are extremely helpful, thank you. This is my second purchase of an Outback Subaru. Love the car 🚗 add one more subscriber to your count.
Thanks for watching and also for subscribing!
I’m a new Subie… just got a 2022 black Forester touring. Heading to NC for Christmas I’m going to enjoy that heated steering wheel! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Enjoy your trip with your new Subaru!
I’ve done the same 🙃 Glad you were able to get back in!
I see what you did there 03:17 mark "it's a lot easier pushing it in than taking it out". LOL. I agree.
Just bought a new 2022 subaru outback limited xt and your video is why better than me trying to read that book associated with the car
I'm not a fan of reading the manuals either lol
Thank you!
Thanks for the guider , the panic button blink the light instead of the horn
Hi Alex, you are one of the reason I just bought an Outback 2022 Touring. I'm in Canada. Now have to wait for delivery 4-12 weeks.
Congrats! Thanks for checking out my videos
Very well explained Alex! 👍Keep up the good work! I like that 3 presses of the lock button to enable the alarm😊
Greetings from Northern Ireland, really liking these videos and it's helped my understanding of Subaru. New Outback arrives this Thursday.
Thanks Robert! Hope you enjoy your new Outback!
"Its a lot easier going in that pulling it out",, so true.. 🤣
Thanks for the tips & tricks Alex!
you're welcome!
Alex - very informative and helpful.
Love your videos! So helpful with all the different features that I really didn't know how to use! Thank you!!!
Love your videos. You are clear and concise. Thanks 😊
Thanks Mary Kae! I appreciate you for watching
As a Subaru lover this is my go to channel...keep it up!
Love your helpful videos Alex! You helped me decide to buy my new pre-owned 2022 Outback! Thanks so much!
You’re welcome! Enjoy!
I recently took my Wilderness in for it's first service here in California and although I pointed out the need for the full rotation and was promised that it would be done
the techs only did a 4 tire rotation. Obviously, this is a safety, environmental and economic concern. Properly rotated tires last longer. I feel it would be helpful to techs and owners alike. Please keep up the good work.

Great video! Very useful! I just picked up a rental and didn't have the patience to dig thru the manual. Much appreciated!
Thanks! Glad this was able to help
Thank you for all your information.
Alex - Thank You for your efforts. I appreciate it. We have a 2017 and a 2023 Outbacks
Love your videos. I'm about to purchase a 2022 Forester so all your content has been so informative and will keep be occupied until it arrives!
Thanks for watching! Glad I could help!
Maybe its different for older models, but for the 2024 Crosstrek per the manual the security alarm is armed as soon as you lock the doors. You don't have to hit the lock button 3 times. All that does is sound the horn once if looking for your car.
Thanks for uploading this vid. Love my 2021 Forester Touring edition.
Thanks for watching! How do you like the facial recognition feature on the Touring? That’s one of my favorite features right now.
Useful info; Clear Voice; Good lighting; good definition; low background noise, lose the sunglasses!
This was a really good vid of the Subaru Outback. Really enjoyed it🙂🙂👍🏻👍🏻.
Thanks Simon! Glad you liked it!
👍🏻
I just found out I have a powered boot lid. Thanks
Thank you Steve! I really appreciate that 😊
Excellent tips. Great presentation. Good work
Excellent instructional video, thanks! Question: Is there a way to disable the proximity sensors but still use the keyless entry fob?
Thanks Stephen! None that I’m aware of 😕 you can put your key in sleep mode, which disables the connection to the proximity sensors. In that case, you would have to manually unlock the car with the physical key that’s inside of the key fob.
Thank you for making this video. I recently purchased a 2022 Outback and am still learning about all of the features.
You’re welcome Ann!
You are amazing. Thank you! What a nice young man!!
Your videos are very helpful! Thanks!
Thank you.
For cars with seat memory, The fob can also be an additional memory position. So two on the car door, plus an additional setting for each fob.
How do you that?
I mean how do you program your seat using the key fob.
I find these really useful. Thanks for your channel
Happy to hear! Thanks for watching!
Love your videos. I'm an Australian and hope that the 2.4l turbo Outback gets released there soon
Thanks from Australia
