Ms Chris, candied sweet potatoes was a favorite that my Mother mastered. I lost her 35 years ago, and never had her recipe. I’ve tried so many over the years, and NOTHING came close to right flavor and consistency. I came across your recipe last year, and my family’s holiday and special occasion (or just plain ‘Sunday’) dinners changed forever! I mean an absolute GAME-CHANGER! OMGoodness! This is it!!! Btw, same deal on your sweet potato pie recipe. I used to pay folks to bake me a few for the holidays. NEVAH again!! You did this! Thank you to the person who shared this with you as well. I am happy to pass it on and to share you with my family and friends! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

When you finish cooking we can actually taste & smell it. And it seems like you're getting ready to hand us our plate ⚘⚘⚘👏👏👏 you share your recipes, personality, & love with us. We can really follow your directions to the T, your words you say, you scraping the last out of the container - old school not wasteful, You keep it real, I see all kinds of people complimenting you & different ages as well; there a lot of ways of ministering & showing love & kindness. This popped up along with your recent version of parboiling the sweet potatoes and cooking the, in the oven. I will try the oven method, however this is my favorite way of preparing candied sweets. I’ve been around since your original version of this recipe. I will always be grateful for your recipe. I could never master candy sweets. I think I told you your cooking style is so similar to mine for some recipes. I always refer to your channel for reference especially for anything different I haven’t tried. I’m so glad to see your channel growing and growing. ❤️❤️❤️

Happy cooking.
Gina Truesdale Fosuhene mix together well 2 heaping tablespoons of cornstarch to a 1/2 cup of water. Then add it to the pot the last 15 minutes of cooking.
Hi Miss Chris - great recipe from a great lady! I know these sweet potatoes will be great - before I even make them! Love that you added the cinnamon and nutmeg with the sugar.
Wow. I just made these with your recipe but a different method once the taters were cut into slices. I made a mildly thick roux with the half-plus stick of butter, approx. 3/4 cup sugar, 2 TBL. cinnamon, a couple tsp. nutmeg, molasses (I use a little molasses to make it into brown sugar -- 1 TBL to 1 cup sugar) and the 1/2 cup COLD water with the 2 TBL cornstarch that has been stirred well before adding. Just when it began to get thick I poured it over the sweet taters (in a 3-quart Corning Ware casserole dish) and put a glass lid on it and put it in a 325-degree oven. After about an hour I pulled it out just to turn the taters over a bit and make sure it was well mixed, covered it again and put it back into the oven. Once the taters started creating a lot of liquid visibly, they were ready. I added the lemon extract and vanilla extract at the very end (not to cook them), first mixing in about 1/4 cup maple syrup, mixing it together and pouring it over the cooked sweet taters. My housemate said she NEVER liked candied sweet potatoes but she LOVES these, and said they were not too sweet and so delicious she could almost make herself sick just continuing to eat them until she couldn't eat them anymore, LOL.
Yes ma'am #Mrs.Chris :) That's the way my granny taught me on candid yams. Now I gotta go to Walmart and get me some #SweetPotatoes :) I really enjoy all of your videos, thank you so much for sharing your cooking with us. #BlessingsFrmSanAngeloTx
YESSSSSSSSSS HUNNNY ONE OF MY FAVORITE DISHES OMG LAWDY. Ms. Chris thank you reminds me of my granny cooking may she r.i.h Please advise on the cornstarch wasn't needed
Ms. Chris. I gotta tell you. These candied yams were delicious. I made them today along with my Sunday Dinner and they were a hit. My family enjoyed them. I didn't know you could cook them this way on the stove without the water. Thank you so much. Have a blessed Sunday.
Chris you got my mouth watering now! That's my favorite, I could eat them every day. Im going to make them this weekend! Thank you so much for sharing! ~Be Blessed ~ 💜💖🙏🤗😊💜
Looks so delish! Even though grandma always baked her candied yams, I make a caramel sauce and use all the ingredients you have as well with light brown sugar instead of sugar.
I use all the same ingredients minus the cinnamon (not a fan). However, I just create a simple syrup and add all those ingredients to a pot, bring to a boil and pour it all over the cooked potatoes and bake it for a short time.
I love the recipe, but I don't know the cornstarch method. You don't show it and I don't see the recipe below the video. Please give the cornstarch thickening instructions.
so happy you're back, I've missed watching you. These look absolutely delish, going to half to try them. Quick question off topic, Is you first cookbook still avail. I have the second one and wanting to order the first on " Let start cookin" I think it's called.........Love you Chris and so glad you are back.........take good care of yourself.......
In the video for the sweet yams, you said you were going to add some starch. But I never hear you mention how much or when to add it, could you please give that information. Thank you 😊

I was skeptical of this recipe. However being bored today I decided to try it. To my surprise it is absolutely delicious and the sweet potatoes did produce their own juice and did not burn. I kept everything on a low temperature just as you suggested. Thank you for a good recipe. I will make it again
