No, he is not exaggerating about the musical thing. Nomura saw Le Mis in theaters one (1) time and the very next day tried to derail the entire development cycle because he was now dead-set on making it a musical.
iirc max has been playing ffxv since like launch and tbh with how many games he played on his channel it makes sense why he doesn't try to do all of the side quest to leveled up and just choose the cheese option, which is; travel back in time, eat lasagne, sleep in a hotel, and defeat the giant turtle boss with the black hole ring
As someone who DID do just about everything in the royal edition for 15 in prep for 16... it's a very weird game and over-leveling is about as weird as under-leveling. The combat is... fine, absurdly automated and tries to reward you for getting back attacks while actively fighting you from doing so. I think the real problem with the pacing is that the empire is just basically taken care of off screen the entire time, despite you know... killing the gods that doesn't actually seem to affect said gods in any way. That said I AM far more excited to see what Nomura has cooking for Verum Rex's development. But that's just because I'm a massive kingdom hearts fan. Kingdom hearts makes ffxv feel really weird, combat wise. Especially given that magic is grenades so you almost never can use them like you want to unless you take up an equipment slot to avoid friendly fire, but at the same time you end up just... not using it anyways because you don't get AP for magic kills since I was basically warp spamming the entire endgame once I realized how expensive every late game AP thing was. But because of how much I love 14 and trust Yoshi-P... and also because of all the preview stuff, I think 16 is probably going to be a LOT less divisive.

If your not suppose to fight the giga-snake right at the verybeginning, then why is it there at the start of the game? Where it is possible for you to run into in the first place? Maybe it shouldn't be there at all?
To be fair, nothing is stopping you from running from the snake either since it's not a mandatory fight. It's like how Xenoblade 1 and 2 has that lv 81 enemy just casually wandering around the starting area alongside the level 3-5 enemies. Just because you run into it doesn't mean you should try to fight it.
