An easier candle is to buy some wire stripers and some electrical wire, get the thickness of the candle you want. If you're anything like me, you probably already have a load of electrical cables that you don't need any more and so only need to buy the wire strippers. Then just strip one end of the wire to make a wick end and cut it down to size. A little super glue to hold it all in place. Then coat it all in thick white paint to form drips (add PVA or a medium to your paint to thicken it up. You can also use hot glue, if you're skilled with a glue gun). Then a brown wash and finally black the wick and give the whole thing a very gentle off white dry brush. Done. No fiddly drilling and gluing. The hardest part is cutting it down to size. If you want a flame, roll a blob of green stuff (or other epoxy putty) into a point and squidg it to the end.
Honestly, I don't have a problem with the drilling and gluing, I find it quite zen :) but it's a good alternative
Seems like it could be a fiddly build, but I love the wall sconce look with the bent wire... That'll look great on the candelabra as well!
Honestly, I did think that after I finished :) There's a few different candleabra designs that would look great actually!
Great ideas! Sharing a tip though: if you put superglue on one surface and PVA on the other, the resulting bond has the best properties of both - the superglue bond is accelerated due to any water in the PVA & sets up quickly, and the PVA provides a better long-term bond as the superglue will get brittle and often fail over time.

Another option for candles that might be easier is to use the insulated wire the thickness you want your candles, then strip the covering at the top and work it into shape. Mod podge the melted parts. If you want a larger flame, you can tease out some hot glue into a flame if you want to.

@@RPArchiveOfficial You can get a lot of wire of the right size for relatively cheap as well, either new which is a little bit more and easier to keep track of, or you can spend some time to scrap old electronics, normally for free...

As expected your candle holder is much better then my attempt 🙂. An alternative method for candle making is to use isolated electronic wire. Part with stripped isolation as the flame additionally dipped in hot glue to gain some volume and sharpness.
That's an interesting method actually. I like how in that method the flame is seperate again from the wick.
I really like these small detailed builds. but my fingers don't I usually end up gluing them together

Thin superglue can get hot when dry. Even more hot when you supercharge the reaction by using activator.

Lately I tried to make candles from white porcelain, with pva glue to create "drips".
A piece of wire painted in black to form the wick.
Turned out pretty well, and it allows you to make different size candles.
You have to take time to "cook" the white porcelain, but you can store it almost for ever in a plastic bag (without air).

Don't know if this would be too tedious or even doable, but have you considered using the tiniest of magnets on the top end of the wire that makes up the torch, and building different colored flames around another of the same size magnets so you don't need to build a bunch of torches, just the same number of each color head of flame? You could then also leave the flames out if the torches for whatever reason aren't currently lit, and when someone lights it, plop the magnetized flames on to them.

How much does it cost you for washers that size? The few times I've looked, it seems like I could be a whole 4' x 8' sheet of XPS for the cost of a dozen of them
Really? That big bag I show cost me £1. Practically nothing, and it had a ton in it. Remember you don't need quality stuff that will work smoothly for its intended purpose, to us it's just a weight, so buy cheap at pound/dollar stores :)
@@RPArchiveOfficial To ne honest, the cheapest "weights" are probably 2p coins. I've never seen washers cheaper than 2p per piece!
Very true, but I deliberately didn't use those to avoid having to cover the 'texture' of the queen's head, as well as to make it look more like a part of the candelabra, not a flat base :)
I found a fair few examples with ringed bottoms so I figured it worked well for that.
