Scrowaczewski recorded all the overtures and incidental music in the 1970's when he was conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra. The performances are very good, with extremely refined playing. The vocal soloists and choral contribution, especially in The Ruins of Athens music, can't be beat.
An excellent performance of one of my favourite Beethoven overtures. Beethoven was an admirer of Handle’s music and towards the end of his life he studied earlier contrapuntal music from the Baroque period., hence the style of this overture. We can only guess at what he might have composed it he’d lived a little longer.
Colin, thank you so much for bringing to the surface this magnificent rendition of LvB "Consecration of the House". Sounds quality is excellent, so it's definitely an outstanding performance!

The conductor is Stanislaw Skrowaczewski with, I think, the Berlin Philharmonic. The performance is now on UA-cam at www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Stanislaw+Skrowaczewski+beethoven+consacration&view=detail&mid=08C590F42008C2412A6008C590F42008C2412A60&FORM=VIRE where the sound quality is even better.
A great performance and the violins come out so clearly.
A swinging masterpiece by the greatest, I.e., LvB

Una interpretación magistral tal como la concibió Beethoven no hay palabras para analisar la obra simplemente hay que escucharla y sentirla.

Beethoven channeling Haydn's 95th symphony here as well as Mozart's K. 415.
Merveilleux !
Merci!
This is how it's done.
