Samhain isn't about corn and pumpkins. Sorry, samhains origin is Ireland. Pumpkins and corn are native american. Samhain would be a lot more celebrated with bread, cheese and grains.
I love Samhain because it intertwines with day of the dead (I'm Mexican) so the altar get so colorful with sugar skulls, food, seasonal flowers, candied pumpkin, incense and candles for our ancestors ✨
Thank you for acknowledging different types of families! Our little girl is due this Spring, but I am not her biological mother, my wife is. I often think about if she follows in my footsteps, what ancestor work will look like for her, since she was donor-conceived! I also honor my friend Ruth, who was my biggest supporter and saved me in so many ways I cannot convey - she passed before she got to know we were pregnant with our daughter but she was so excited to hear we were going to be trying soon! I often envision her looking out for me. Her favorite color was yellow, and since she passed, when I’m really needing encouragement, a little yellow bird comes and does tricks for my security camera, just showing off! I often say, it must be her.
Thanks, for reminding us, that alters are not limited to a single or limited space. I like to spread my offerings, gratitude, and celebration throughout the house. 👼😇💀👻
Your videos are never too long, at least not for me. I always look forward to them. I absorb all your content like a sponge lol. I'm always taking notes to incorporate them in my practice. Blessed Be and have an amazing and Blessed Samhain.
yup, gallons and gallons of tea, the remedy for all ills and the celebratory beverage of all joyful times. I love how you discuss differentiated methods of approaching the observance of the season for a wide variety of experiences and lifestyles.
3:51 biggest game changer for decorating my alter is having a change of tablecloth or linen with patterns and embroidery fitting the themes I’m going for. I’m having one with pumpkins, corn, acorns, autumn leaves, and other harvested foods printed on it, and I added my deer antlers to my table for more decoration
Thank you for including the harvest aspect of Samhain, Hearth. Most videos only talk about the ancestral aspect, so It's a good reminder that Samhain marks the final harvest. My altar and window displays are a mix of harvest and autumnal witchy-ness, and Day of the Dead adornments. Pumpkins, marigolds, leaves, skulls and skeletons, and a witch's hut are all included. I have a permanent ancestral altar, but I may do a more elaborate ancestral ofrenda (altar) for Days of the Dead this year
Im fortunate enough to have a garden so i generally keep an alter in the raspberries and roses. This time of year i will put an extra set of offerings in with the pumpkins, and put apples next to the garden gate. No body has complained so far.
Unfortunately had to put away my altar due to personal things, but I absolutely love Samhain and your altar is stunning. Samhain was the first sabbat I ever celebrated as a witch and I love it just in general for the vibes 🧡 Happy early Samhain, everyone. May the coming year be wonderful for us all
Blessings and thank you for sharing, for my ancesters I wrote their names on white paper and what I remember about them, not many pictures but the memories are treasured. I just finished my altar, be blessed.
I’m always excited for a new Hearth video, but especially one about one of my favorite sabbats. I really like the “what’s going on in witchcraft” and book release videos. I’m really here for everything though, I’ve never watched a video of yours that I didn’t like💕
On my ancestor alter, My grandfathers guardian rock and some apple pie, my nana's Chantilly powder and sherry, a ceramic skull gifted to us by the fil before he passed as well as some vodka for my fil and sil and a carving and incense for my hubby's gamby and gramee, will be setting that up in the corner of the living room so the whole family can access it. In general I always have a basic alter up in my bedroom after a good cleaning that one is getting my deer skull that I found in my grandfathers woods long ago that I have toted from house to house as well as some small branches my Alder tree has given me this month and some coloring I have done. Along with that my lil cast iron cauldron is getting a nice scrubbing and seasoning in the oven for the season to let go of old sadness and bring in the new joys on Samhain. As an offering to the others I work with and elements I will be sharing some of my garden harvest not much survived the fall planting (thanks Helene) but there are a few nice bits I think they will enjoy. As well as slow walking meditations in the evenings letting each footfall drop energy into this earth in gratitude for our safety and survival. I can manage that spreading and sending energy across these mountains (NC here) it is needed right now. Granted this will be spaced out over the next few weeks since my energy levels are a bit low but there is my plans. Thanks for the inspiring vids as always I learn somethings and relate to a great deal. Hope you have an enjoyable season :)
Samhain Altar I have a pair of glass skull candle holders (to represent the ancestors) which can hold tea light candles or votive candles, which I place on either side of a fairly large Raven sculpture (messenger from the Ethereal realms). In front of the Raven, I place a trio of small decorative pumpkins to represent the harvest. From there, I will include a chalace, cauldron, or bowl for offerings, a hanging bell or small windchime for the spirits to play with or use to communicate with, and an incense burner (I have one that is a skull held by a skeleton hand that can hold backflow cone incense (the smoke pours down and out through the eyes of the skull), regular cone incense, and stick incense) that I put together on a black cloth that I have embroidered specific symbols on.
Oddly, the one actual blood ancestor I loved the most is the one who would no doubt strongly disapprove of my practice. She was my great-grandmother and a strict Baptist. She did not tolerate any other belief from anyone. In her lifetime, everyone just ignored that because in all other aspects she was a loving, giving, strong woman. What might happen if I did an ancestry working with her in your opinion? All opinions welcomed.
I was listening to a speaker who was discussing the importance of ancestor work, and they said something along the lines of “if they’re on the other side, they’ve already learned the truth.” I took that to mean whatever we believe in life means nothing as we all are the same in death.
@@madiamedicoSuch a simple thought yet so powerful, it's actually quite eye opening for me and feels "right" to me (not the right word exactly but I can't describe the feeling that well). Thanks for this bit of advice 🥰
I agree with what madiamedico said. From my experience and what I know about the afterlife, people who pass on don't keep practicing religion because that's a human construct of the material world. When you've passed on and are now a true, divine soul, you don't take the old mindset with you. I think the only thing that would prevent a spirit from coming through is if the contactor has doubts or negative beliefs about it.
My lot were salvation army. My parents were closed minded. I believe you see the bigger picture on reunion with Source. If I have alcohol that's what they get 😂.
My altar for samhain this year has had fall leaves and flowers, tarot and oracle cards to reflect the season, autumnal scented candle, a ceramic pumpkin, offerings to deities I work with, a small cauldron, and a little picture of my late dog who passed a few years ago. She was my best friend and I really wanted to honor her this season and let her know I love her and still think of her every day :) Blessed samhain, I hope it was a good one for you!
I've very recently lost both my father and brother. I'm doing my Samhain altar tomorrow night, and I will be puting my dad's mini urn next to my altar. He was a Christian, but I never heard him say one bad word about anyone different than him, so I don't think he would mind.
Damn, I've gotta steal that makeup look from you!!! Very rad. Also great cordination! Edit: i really appreciate all the little things you add to your videos, like the punpkins scrolling by in the ads or the *sweeping to music*
Samhain has always been my favorite holiday, even when I was young and it was Halloween to me. I have sadly lost many people in my life. This is my second Samhain practicing as a witch, and I just got a bookshelf to use as an altar ( to blend in with normal decor to the untrained eye). I have candles for each member of family that I've lost, some acorns, a stick I found, an apple, some crystals, pumpkin witch plush (kinda like a snowman), and two deity statues. And some pictures of family and pets.
Your altar and apothecary chest are beautiful! I am currently converting a dresser into an altar cabinet, (I adopted twin ginger kittens) so now my altar has to be contained within something I can close and keep safe from fuzzy paws! 🎃🍁🍂
Your sweater looks like you are connecting with Freddy Krueger. 🤣This is my favorite season as well. I have four small wooden tombstones (that I made) in my front yard and decorative bats, spiders, pumpkins, etcetera throughout the house. I will be spending time reading the folklore and stories of the season as well. 📚
At Samhain I always have photo's of my ancestors up. Tea and a scone with my Mums cup and saucer. Candle in the window.... I love the darker half of the year ❤👻
I have a candle holder it is witches dancing around a tea light candle also based and candles and a dried sunflower that I grew myself. Thank you for this video blessed be
Love this video and information. I to love this time of year. Unfortunately I've been sick and just now getting well so I'm not doing as much as I normally would and really would have liked too. But I do plan on doing my alter in some way 😅
I really understand your view on tea. I live in the southern United States and most people here love sweet iced tea. I only drink it if I’m very thirsty and there is nothing else. When I’m able to do an alter I put Coca Cola and Jack Daniel’s for my brother and my father . This year I’m adding Dr Pepper for my mother.
For me it's apples. I generally have a wax apple on the altar along with fall leaves. This year for Samhain night I was (am still) out of town and won't be home until next week. I will have a full celebration on the 13th of November, but Samhain night I managed to have a season-appropriate meal and provide a dumb feast for the dead. I did feel a bit off though. It's difficult to connect from a hotel room. I thought about bringing a portable altar, but the car was already packed to the brim. Thankfully, next year I will be at home for the season.
Tbh, I personally don’t worry about asking deities/ancestors/whoever I’m working with what I can or cannot have on my altar. My altar, my decision. Nothing bad has ever happened as a result
I find that my wallpaper on my PC especially is like an altar for me 😃 I "decorate" it very intentionally for the season or whatever I want to manifest.
