What I don't get is why they just didn't give Kurt the role of Baby John instead of Officer Krupke. Officer Krupke is in four scenes and only has speaking lines in two of them. Lieutenant Shrank has more lines then him and he's justifiably the most hated character in the play - no one really likes Krupke either. And both the Jets and the Sharks know that the cops are the enemy they both have in common so they don't tell them anything or ask them for help. Baby John, yes, he's a dancing role, but he has more speaking lines then the majority of the Jets, he's the youngest member of the gang who's always trying to act like he's older and tougher than he is, he has a great scene in the original play and 60s movie where he finally admits that he's scared. Kurt could play that easily - we just came from an episode of him trying to act masculine, with Baby John all they'd have to do was mess up his hair a bit, put him in street clothes that look worn, give him a fake bruise somewhere on the face with make-up and maybe rub a bit of fake dirt on his face in some scenes. We all know he'd break hearts as Baby John. And he'd like it more than Krupke because, again, more speaking lines. To be honest a bit of me wonders how well the shows scriptwriters actually know the play or movie version of West Side Story.
Yaoi Fangirl ok. Your username, it's something. Sometimes in life it's good to admit to things, but some things are better kept as secrets. What your username is, is definitely better kept as secret.
I don’t understand he was surprised when Artie asked him if he mind auditioning for the role of Tony. He sang Tony’s most famous song😂 Did he expected to be Bernardo? that was pretty obvious
Well he did prepare to audition for Tony until Kurt told him that he wants the role instead. So he must have prepared the song from beforehand. He obviously stated that he was auditioning for Bernardo on paper as well. Lets be real the teachers didn't want Kurt for Tony even if Blaine didn't get it.
@@isabellanariah5156 uh no… I disagree personally. I always felt like Blaine wasn’t really Blaine and was wearing a mask, trying to be the “perfect boyfriend”. He wanted to be Tony but didn’t audition for him because he knew Kurt wanted it. He gave his happiness away for Kurt. I don’t think Blaine was ever toxic, at most 5x07 only. We just saw more of Blaine and actually got to know him season 4 and after. People love season 2 Blaine because he didn’t have any insecurities and was a total confident guy. But to me it felt like an act. And that Blaine didn’t have any depth to his character compared to later. Just my opinion tho 🤷♀️
Have some of you actually watched the show?? You're like "how could Blaine do this to Kurt", first of all they both wanted the role of Tony but Blaine decided to back off, so kurt can have more chances of taking it... The judges liked Blaine's performance (which was incredible) and I think too that it fits him more than Kurt... Kurt wasn't so much offended by that though, he saw that Blaine deserved it so he supported him. Stop making Kurt and Blaine being against each other, it's tiring really. They're both great, talented af AND love & support each other no matter what.
Totally agree, and Kurt was happy for Blaine he gave him flowers and was still smiling and being happy for Blaine despite not getting the main Role himself
im ded at the directors' responses to Blaine's audition vs Kurt. They full on laugh at and bully Kurt which is horrible but only funny because they are the last 3 people you'd expect to do so. And then you see Beist crying at the end of Blaine's and it wasn't even an emotional performance and Artie catching Blaine's 'throw' at 1:19 is hilarious
Kurt auditioned twice, the first time was a dance number singing a song and he killed it, but they said he didn't have enough masculinity, so the second time he tried, he did a scene from Romeo And Juliet, which is what West Side Story is based off of.
Darren at peak charisma! Not the best singer, or the best dancer on the show, but the camera LOVES him. And, he goes all in no matter the ridiculous plot!
I would have to disagree lol. As a classically trained musician he is one of the more talented vocalists on the show. perhaps this is not his best performance but for the guys of the show he’s at least top 2.
So I'm just spit balling here but...you know how West Side Story is based off of Romeo and Juliet? Well Kurt was basically watching Blaine from a balcony...which is what Juliet did before Romeo found her (except for the one with Leo Dicaprio where they fell in the pool) so Blaine is Kurt's Romeo

It's only just out of reach Down the block, on a beach, maybe tonight Maybe tonight, maybe tonight
My problem with this performance: The changing to the orchestra's part especially near the end - it was unnecessary. My dad's problem with this performance: He only held the notes for 'Could be' and 'who knows' for 3 (if that) beats instead of the 4 that's required and that actually help make the song the iconic song that it is. My grandma's problem with this performance: All she said was 'wooden'.
Kurt could've played Tony better than Blaine. When I watched this and they cast Blaine as Tony because kurt couldn't pass as straight I thought it was gonna be an inspirational fight back but instead he just got krupke who doesn't even sing
I'm sorry, but Blaine taking that part was terrible. He knew how much Kurt wanted it and needed it for his NYADA application but of course Blaine being Blaine just couldn't handle not being in the spotlight. Blaine's lucky that he had such an amazing boyfriend who instead of getting mad, congratulated him and gave him flowers.
I'm my opinion, Blaine deserved this role, even though i understand how much Kurt wanted it. Blaine has gave up alot of things for Kurt. The warblers, the saftey of Doltan, just to be with him. But Blaine also did it for himself. Yes Blaine has a tendency to be in the spotlight, but Kurt isnt all idocent. Being Kurt as my all time Favorite character, i need to understand his flaws as well. Kurt can be really sneeky and selfish sometimes, and i feel as though he understood how selfish he was being for getting jealous. Blaine has dreams too and this can be a big deal when it came to collage. Kurt didnt NEED this role to be apart of NYADA, he got in other wise, just with his talent. So yes, Blaine can hog the spotlight, but i dont think this is an example.
Julie - sama I respect your opinion but honestly really disagree with you in this situation. I'm not saying Blaine is perfect or totally innocent, but he didn't even put down Tony on his audition sheet, the directors asked him to read for him. Plus, Kurt most likely wouldn't have gotten the part anyways because it doesn't really fit his style. And I don't really think you should sacrifice your own opportunities for other people if you got it fair and square. So, personally I don't think it was bad if Blaine to accept the role, and I agree with everything the comment above me said, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion so :)
Gotta say that I'm at least glad you guys came about it in a correct fashion. I'm all for people shipping Klaine and what they see fit as long as they aren't rude about it. And I guess you have a point. My bad.
The problem with Kurt (and Finn as well) was that the actors weren't cast for their ability to sing, so the show had problems like in this episode where Kurt is auditioning for a role he would have no hope in actually getting in real life. And within the story Blaine probably sacrificed more for Kurt than any other character did for their love interest.
what i think blaine deserves the spotlight. because he's amazing and i love him. and also u dont need a additude about it. just if u dont like something than keep it to yourself. u know nothing about glee and i do. so there i said it. goodbye
Unpopular opinion: the voice of Darren does not fit at all in a musical that requires legit singing for the leads (such as WSS). It's just not right, and I believe he does not have the versatility, because we see that Lea is capable of singing legit in the following episodes.

He is manly, Kurt is so feminim

That’s because Kurt’s was not good. He can’t play any Shakespeare male lead with Rachel and expect that to work.
