The Patriots built their Superteam through smart signings, draft picks and contract moves. However, starting in 2016 we began to see a decline in these moves and the Patriots slowly started to lose their arsenal of talent. This dwindling of resources along with the continuous disrespect and lack of trust in their star Tom Brady caused a sudden collapse in 2020. While the Patriots team is still decent they are nowhere close to a Superteam.

@@doomer8273 They had drafted based on need and not talent. You can critique their assessment of the talent they obtained (We Pats fans sure do) but at the end it only becomes fault when they are losing. A lot of first round talents were picked by NE but a lot of the core was always FA or "steals". My point is that they did not collapse bc only a season has lapsed. A proper collapse (as illustrated by Secret Base) has ramifications that last for years down the line. If NE makes the playoffs this season, last season was a blip and therefore they'd be back on the horse (so to speak).

This is gonna sound weird, but I have an idea for a new type of video, the timeline of an Anomaly. This is where a team tried to build a contender but couldn’t get any success with that core, there are 2 teams that come to mind, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Detroit Lions.
I wouldn't mind seeing one for the 10 year championship drought or how the Pats built the team that won their last 3 Superbowls.
10 year drought with two appearances in the SuperBowl and 6 appearances in the AFC championship game during that ten year "drought." You have a funny idea of a drought. IF Gronk had not been hurt in the 2011 AFC championship game in his breakout year, the Pats likely would have won that one.
FYI... It's actually a 9 year drought... The won in the 10th year 2014. There are only 9 seasons (05-13) without a title...
@@odysseus2656 correction: had Welker not dropped that pass in the fourth quarter, the Patriots would have won. They would’ve bled out the clock. Hell, if the Giants stopped them on third down, the Patriots would have already been well within field goal range, putting them up 20-14 with only about two or less minutes remaining in the game. Meaning, the Giants would have to go the whole length of the field in less than 1:30 presumably without any timeouts. Not impossible, but much more difficult than what they originally had to overcome that game

Happens with most teams. Look at Carolina since 2015 or Denver. Where are the Jaguars after almost knocking off the Pats in the AFC championship game in 2017? Atlanta has been in a downward spiral since 2016. Have the Giants been in the playoffs since they won in 2011? It is unusual to see a repeat performance.

As a Falcons fan it’s good to know that Super Bowl 51 was the start of the Patriots collapse. I guess the Falcons losing that game did some good. The worst loss in Falcons history was the moment that sparked the fall of a near immortal empire. Incredible.

I mean can it really be a collapse yet? They won the sb in 2018, went 12-4 and made the playoffs in 2019, it hasn't even been a full year since the 2020 season. I think we should wait a couple before definitively calling this a collapse. They can easily make the playoffs in 2021.

I disagree with Brady, Gronkowski, and Edelman being the Patriots’ super team. The Patriots were dominant YEARS before Gronk and Edelman entered the league. I’d say the super team was Brady, Belichick, and Kraft. It’s an unusual super team we are used to seeing though, but it worked for 20 years.

IIRC, Pats had a rebuild year in 2012. They started gaining momentum in 2013, losing to Denver, then beating the LOB in 2014, then losing to Denver again in the AFCCG, then hitting their peak in 28-3. They were as powerful in SB 52 as they were in SB 51, but they lacked a good defense, for which they paid a heavy price. Their decline started in 2018, but they were still good enough to get another title, before their offense completely deteriorated in 201, held together by Brady himself, until his departure in 2020
Critics are always saying 'this time, the Patriots are finished.' Stay tuned, as Belichik rebuilds. Bad drafts? OK. But some teams have a bad draft every year for a decade & never even reach a 500. record let alone win the division.

As a titans fan, seeing his last throw as a patriot go to my team, I could not have been happier. I actually wanted Brady to do well in every game except that one.
