The other Holomem that thinks & talks about stuff like this is Peko-chan. Both of them might not have the right answers, but they asked the questions. They are curious and wonder why things are the way they are. Isn't that the signs of higher intelligence?
Hence why we got the genius war rabbit and the horni cosplayer that solved Portal 1 & 2 with relative ease (except the rocket room part where she took the roundabout way of solving the puzzle lol).
It's philosophy. There are relatively no right answers unless someone states an absolute and it is disproven.

Plants could be way smarter than they seem in a way, like it's been proven that they could communicate trough chemical messages, similar to a hivemind with lots of extra steps
@@burnoutcat2387 iirc, they can make make a communication hub, most usually the eldest tree/plant, using fungi ( i think it's called mycelium but i'm no sure, i don't remember well), which also allows them to transfer nutrients when one is suffering from a shortage of such

Despite his great reflections about thinking and *BEING* , Descartes firmly believed that animals were no different to machines and objects.
I like senchou's thinking fishes better.
I mean he didn't have to prove their existence like he had to do for himself. Once he established his own and good God's existence, the rest didn't matter to him anymore. They by default exist as the good God won't trick him. Also rational supremacy was traditionally only held by humankind.

Like his point about animals could also be made about mute children. Animals aren't sapient but they do have feelings, though we figured that out pretty late.

If the end card is true then I'm officially alive.
Discovering Hololive, coming across Marine whom I also addressed as Senchou ever since, being able to journey with her, that is my way of being alive. That is, being alive spiritually.
After she graduates, I have to find a new way to be alive. If Hololive still exists at the time, I will go for one of the newer talents and support her next.
Until then, Senchou is my life.

What senchou said isn't being alive, it's being conscious. Think about it, when you are sleeping you are unconscious but yet you are alive.
The more appropriate term would be to experience life. Being unable to think =/= being dead but being unable to think = unable to realize you are living, hence being unable to experience life.

Some people believe that consciousness is born to control a body made of multiple cells that needs to be moved in control, that if things can move themselves by their own will, then there's a chance they can think. In other words, anything that has something of a nerve system can have a consciousness and can think. When one of these gets really concentrated, it eventually becomes what we call a brain.
Not sure what other approaches are like, this is just what I can remember based on a book I read that a person recommended to me.
If I remember correctly from biology class, plants do count as living organisms, even though they don't have brains to think with.
Viruses are an example of things that aren't technically alive.
Sadly I don't remember the exact definition so I don't know if an AI would count as alive. And I also don't know if what they do counts as thinking.
Maybe an AI would need to be able to learn and expand / have independent thoughts to count as "being alive", even if it did start from a programmed pattern at first.
Viruses are argued to not be alive largely because they don't really do anything on their own. There's no cell division because they don't have any cells or organelles, they don't really actively react to anything, they can't naturally reproduce - they mostly just interact passively based on their biology. Like a teabag floating through the void, sometimes it'll happen to bump into some water and through little more than chemical reactions and circumstance that water is now forced to make more tea.
