    It’s challenging to learn a new language for the sake of “knowing” it, but it actually takes on a level of enjoyment when you can learn a language for the sake of “understanding” it. Your approach makes it easier to understand the “why” behind Portuguese. Knowing + understanding is the best kind of learning for me. My wife and I love to travel internationally and are planning our first trip to Portugal in April. This should help :-). Thank you!!

    Hello both. I have recently taken up learning portuguese again. I have noticed a lot of times the " o " at end of words doesn't get pronounced, is that just colloquial ? Nicely presented and very informative videos by the way , obrigado !

      Olá! Welcome back to learning Portuguese! Yes, you're correct that sometimes the final "o" in words doesn't get pronounced, especially in colloquial speech. We have another video about that on the channel, if it's something you would like to learn more about. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/WxjDC6yt_3c/v-deo.html

    muito obrigado pelo episódio. Podiam explicar me o melhor forma para responder neste situação - num corredor no supermercardo, alguem disse "Com licença" para passar - como devo responder? Força ou desculpe? Nós ingleses gostamos de pedir desculpa toda a hora ;-) Really useful having a lesson on figures of speech - these are fiendishly difficult to acquire or even come across without being taught by native speakers.

    Wonderful I had been confused about when to use the feline of a word, when speaking to a woman or always because I am a woman. I thought I would post my question in The Journey forum but never got around to it.
    I do have a question about the o at the end of obrigado and posso, it does not sound as of you are pronouncing the o but I don’t remember from your lesson about O sounds learning about a dropped sound. Can you tell me if this is a dialect or colloquial thing to drop the o sound at the end of some words?

    • @portuguesewithcarla
      @portuguesewithcarla  3 роки тому +1

      Olá 🙂 Im glad this video has helped you with a question you had.
      In regards to the “o” at the end of words It’s a very subtle and short one, but we may drop it when speaking at a normal speed and when it’s followed by a word that starts with a vowel. There are Portuguese people who always drop the end “o”, but that’s more of a regional thing.

      @zzero9438 3 роки тому +1

      @@portuguesewithcarla Obrigado por sua resposta! mas acho que provavelmente há mais pessoas no mundo que querem aprender português que não sabem bem o inglês. Eu pessoalmente prefiro que você explique tudo em português, para que pessoas que falam outras línguas não tenham que aprender inglês antes de aprender português, ou passar mais tempo descobrindo o que o inglês significa antes de entendê-lo em português. Mas esta é apenas minha opinião pessoal, e você tem a liberdade de escolher a qual público se direcionar para seu canal. Eu só queria que houvesse mais recursos de aprendizagem de português europeu para não falantes de inglês, ou pelo menos, não direcionados especificamente a eles.

    If someone says força, how do you know if it is being said begrudgingly or willingly? In Brazil they say claro which implies permission.

    • @portuguesewithcarla
      @portuguesewithcarla  2 роки тому +1

      Tone of voice, facial expressions and body language play a huge part in the way we communicate with others, you just have to watch for those as well as the actual words being used 👍🏽 Saying that, more often than not “força” is used willingly and not begrudgingly.
