Now the information in this video has been written before this was announced, so take everything regarding the situation in the video with a bit of salt and also, this doesn't mean the information in this video is not relevant anymore, considering Mercedes their performance has been really good this weekend, so let's get started!

Strategy favored Russel in hindsight. It was the riskier move, which is why only one other team did it.

Hamilton should have won anyway if they had let him race instead of having him come in for early pits (twice) to cover for Russell. Lewis deserves more respect than that.

?????????? Did you watch the race? They didn't box Hamilton to "cover for Russel". EVERYONE was on a two-stop strategy except Russel. He is literally the only driver that even attempted it and he made the call himself because he was leading the race with a 9-second gap and felt he could hold it, since he was going to get UNDERCUT by everyone else anyways. It's like you know nothing about racing strategy, yet feel the need to make an ignorant comment, why?

To force him ahead of Hamilton using sneaky strategies will just make George question his real worth. The best thing Merc can do for their future is let Russell really race the GOAT Hamilton with an equal car and get that invaluable experience for another half season.

I honestly find it hard to believe Lewis could catch George at a rate of 0.5s per lap and then couldn’t pass. Was he protecting George from Piastri.
Toto is obviously trying to boost George's Ego and have him ahead of Lewis as often as possible
i cant tell if this is a joke or not. Lewis said he liked the tires, but he never posited the idea of a one stopper. Lewis was already fighting for the top spot with leclerc at the time, and what mercedes did was put lewis on the best strategy to beat leclerc, redbull, and mclaren. They accomplished that goal, but no one was expecting a one stop to work, and something with the mercs lower than normal deg boosted them. Aston Martin also tried to one stop, but their car ate up their tiers and their time per lap fell off a cliff during the last 10 laps.
George called that he could make the tires last and that it would allow him to finish in a higher place then when he pitted. Lewis had no reason to take that risk when everyone else in the top 8 did a 2 stopper besides george. Also, lewis should have been able to pass his teammate on his own, but there was a couple of mistakes by him driving. a couple lockups, deep corners without ideal exits, and really only made attempts at T5 instead of switching his place of attack. He really should have attacked russel at the busstop chicane breaking later and saving battery deployment that section of the track. The tire difference alone would have made it an easy overtake.

@@rockman1942 Also, they didn't share Russell's tire deg longevity with Lewis. He could have driven his car differently based on that info. They kept Lewis in the dark in an attempt to have Russell jump him.

So glad Lewis is leaving this sabotaging team next season. Only last week McLaren made a strategy call that disadvantaged Piastri and spent the race begging Norris to do the right thing but not Merc, they didn’t even tell Lewis he was racing Russell in time. That's how it felt to me. They could have done the same for Lewis, but kind of screwed him. The strategy was one thing, but the weight was kind of fishy. These guys are experts and they know how to bend the rules and make it look accidental.

Of course, there's tension - Lewis will be reminded of last year when he was leading and could have stayed out but they chose to pit him. He'll also play back the moments with McLaren where he said "we should have won this race and somehow ended up 4th without anyone beating us on track" 🙂
No one is going to be happy fighting his own team to victory when he's clearly leading after beating a Red Bull and Ferrari on track. If that happened to Verstappen, there'd be 1 Red Bull car on track for the rest of the season or Horner would man the 2nd one and drive 1 meter and stop🙂

So glad for Lewis but this is the best moral victory as well. I found it disgusting how Russell jumped at the chance to stay out to undercut Lewis after Lewis went in for new tyres. And he wasnt anywhere in that race, it was Lewis all along. Everyone was expecting, even the commentators, that Russell would be instructed to move aside for Lewis then protect Lewis from Piastri. Instead Mercedes inexicably have them duke it out in a drag to the end with Piastei 1.4secs off. There was no honour in Russell taking that. Today, the better man has really won.

They found an opportunity to take George who likely wouldn’t even have been on the podium, and got him to finish P1. That’s what Motorsport is about, taking any opportunity available to take the win. If it weren’t for the Georges car being underweight, everything was legal…and one heck of a watch

If they had ordered George to let Lewis pass, he would have continued to pull away since his tires were more fresh. They risked Oscar passing them both by not letting Lewis through.

Even the media (BBC) ran headlines that Hamilton was GIVEN the win. Err no. Earned the win u being the fastest driver in a legal car!
They risked McLaren winning just so George could have a go. Usually he's straight on the radio if he's behind Lewis asking about pace, swapping cars or staying in front with drs like Japan that the bloody commentators said was the right thing to do. Err no, that just screwed Lewis two stop there when George gambler and lost. He's so transparent about trying to beat Lewis. If you do a drs toe use the faster car in front to take the slower one bit the other way round m and that was after convincing of playing the "team game" something he didn't do in Spa. Funny that when he's in front and on for a win he doesn't suggest anything eh!

Well,! I am glad things turned out the way it did because Toto and the engineers just messed things up by allowing Russell to remain in the lead. Any blind man could see it wad the wrong call to pit Hamilton. They have no shame 😢. Then Toto asking Hamilton to leave space. .what he meant was not to pass Russell 😮😮😮😢. What the hell!! It now resulted that he was 2.5kg lighter, which surely made a difference - so Mercedes are favouring Russell over Hamilton and this time were caught out clearly, not only by the strategy but with hidden tactics as well. Justice served because Hamilton deserved this win. When calling him for the last stop, they should have checked that he would not lose the lead to anyone, INCLUDING HIS TEAMATE, otherwise leave it up to him to choose by alerting him of the possibilities.
Tell me you didn't watch the race without actually telling me. Russel made the call himself, because he would've been undercut by all of the front-runners if he boxed a second time. The team was going to have him make a second stop and he would've came back out in ~8th place. What on earth are you talking about?
They are saying what gave Russel the victory is what caused the disqualification. They were already on the weight limit due to removing the new heavier upgraded parts and refitting the old existing, [which was a last minute decision].
And by changing their race plans and staying out on the same set of tyres the loss of the weight from the rubber eroded was enough to fail the weight test.
[if he had pitted for another set of fresh tyres the same as Hamilton then he would have finished with more weight in rubber on the tyres enough to pass the tests.

They fitted an entire new floor upgrade to the car this weekend and it made the car worse, so at the last minute they swapped the new upgraded parts back for some of the originals and they were blaming that for the car being abnormally lighter than was designed for [differences in the weight of the parts being swapped ? 🤷♂️]
Either way this is what you get when you take away the teams ability to do testing, they set the car up as per computer simulations and when it doesn’t work everything then gets changed in a mad rush at the last minute on a wing and a prayer.

What Toto said is so obviously correct. The safer strategy was the two stop, which is why almost the entire grid did it. George's strategy was a risk, and sometimes risks come off. Clues in the name you know.

Or how about when George purposely spun out his tires in the gravel in Brazil 2022, causing a red flag and putting an end to Q3 whereby locking in a P2 position on the starting grid for the race where he went on to win.

How? He won in Silverstone. Was given the main strategy in Spa, leading most of the race. Merc didn't sabotage him, Russel just made a once-in-a-lifetime call from the cockpit to stay out, since he would've been undercut by everyone else anyways, might as well stay out. It's not like the team made that call for Russel. They were going to have him box and come back out ~8th place...
LH is a better driver. George can only win if they sabotage LH car or give a better strategy to George. That is the only way George can win, unfortunately. 😅

this could have been easily avoided with good communication : Lewis, we are in a very good position, but we cannot let the 2 cars play the same strategy depending on how it unfolds. we decided to give Russel the one stop alternative and give you the 2 stops one, because we think you can do better with 2 sets of tires than just saving them.

Not sure Merc did this to hurt Lewis. I think the different strategy calls now LOOK suspicious after Lewis mentioned his tyres were fine. BUT, they left Russell out after that. They could also SEE the tyres were okay(as Lewis said abt his car), so then Merc could have simply used the opportunity to see what actually goes down. The races are live testing events. Cautious planning can often be wrong, but also spot on. Merc weren't THAT sure but they had already pitted Lewis. Toto and Lewis are good. Toto, for me, has integrity and respects Sir Lewis. I have huge difficulty believing spiteful sabotage of Lewis will ever play out during the remainder of this season. If Merc can win a championship with Lewis bfor he goes to Ferrari, they will go for it. Obviously? Merc team has radical strong history with one another. There is respect. 1 question remains. WHY was GR car SO underweight? That question bothers me. 1.5kgs is Huge by F1 standards. That is not the type of stat that will go by unnoticed. Questions questions....
I'm a Hamilton fan, but here's the thing: he has made the decision to move on, so it's entirely logical for Mercedes to shift focus to the driver that is staying with the team.

There was definitely tension at the end of the race with Lewis staying to himself and just giving George a little pat on the back, the removing his helmet on the other side of a wall while George was daydreaming about his win. The camera crew did a split screen so definitely something to it. I noticed this only because I was expecting them to be excited together.
Lewis professed his love for Bono at silver stone and two races later finding out Bono can’t be trusted is heart wrenching 😢
Russel somehow did a Schumacher from 30 years ago, getting P1 and disqualified in Belgian GP
Lewis’s comments tell you that he was being directed by the team to manage his tyres which he thought in hindsight wasn’t the best strategy because they were short stopping.
If he had pushed the tyres harder to their potential he would have been more advanced in the race at the last pit stop and he may have stayed out in front of Russel.
Ironically this way well be what kept his car legal because it was pushing the tyres to their limit [and the subsequent weight loss from the tyre erosion] that pushed Russel’s car past the weight limit.
The team got Lewis’s strategy spot on but what I did notice is that when he got behind George after clocking 0.8 seconds faster per lap.
Even with DRS he couldn’t even make up a metre on George which was very very strange.
I believe at this stage his power was knocked back a setting

I think people lose sight that the team’s priority is not focused on teammates beating teammates, but on playing the odds with the situation at hand and what actions are most likely to gain the most constructor points. This is a constructor championship, end of story.
Now it becomes clear ..I found it hard to understand how George could pull away from Lewis at the chicane just enough to stop the overtake. For those that say what is 1.5 kilo? remember, teams will spend a fortune in changing the livery to gain half a kilo.

Tbh Russell deserved it he drove excellent and Hamilton was within a second of him by lap 42 so he should have overtaken him

@@LegendGaming-kt5pu All of the drivers talked about how hard it was to overtake. Max was stuck in 5th or 6th the whole race. How is it Lewis ‘should have’ passed Russell within two laps? Had Lewis known the tire deg Russell was experiencing, he could have began pushing harder and earlier in the race. Merc didn’t want Lewis to know.

Merc did not screw over Hamilton. They were trying to get him a P1 and could not take any risks. Russel was fighting for maybe a podium so taking a huge gamble on the 1 stop was worth it. As someone who follows f1, idk why you wouldn’t even think of this

Maybe Lewis would have been DSQ if he too did the 1 stop as some have said that it was tyre wear that made George underweight, being underweight was probably why Lewis could not overtake George.
I'm amazed how people can ignore that LH on fresher tyres and with a clear pace advantage, could not beat his team mate who stunned all the teams in the paddock with a 1 stop strategy that was clearly unplanned, considering that his only stop was on lap 10. Disqualification aside, you have to admire the rare ballsy determination of GR to pull it off. A display of the mettle that once was ascribed to LH....

Mercedes being Mercedes, they tried to cheat by not draining properly the fuel to make up for the missing weigh on the car.
Its obvious (as neither championships are in the frame) that Merc DON'T care who wins. They were happy for George to win, they were happy for Lewis to win (if he had passed George). Be great if they could catch and pass RB.
So many team LH fans here, Russel did a phenomenal job despite his car weight and knowing how effective dirty air at spa is I felt letting the 2 fight was just fine.

Only one driver has a legitimate chance at running down Max in the points depending on what happens. Hamilton is so far back in the points, he has no shot, but the more races he wins, he helps Max hold onto the lead.
You get the feeling that Lewis was forced to leave, he has helped to make the team what it is, yet Russell appears to have Toto's ears. I really hope Lewis will do it again at Ferrari and Toto realises Russell is never going to be a champion

Sure, we are all cheering on mercedes, Hamilton and Russell on thanks to their turn around in pace, but is better to look a bit further down. Piastri got an honest second, and Lando yet another fine stint (I am sure he will resolve is self criticism! Maclaren 3yrs ago were regularly in the bottom 4, and within that time have got 2 potential world champs, and a car that's beating redbull and verstappen. It's more important to keep an eye on the papaya cars along with the silver arrows.
Russell should have been asked to make way for Lewis to act as a buffer against the charging Piastri. Lewis lead for a large portion of the race and wasn’t listened to when he said his tyres were ok. Mercedes would not have won so many constructors championships without the skill of their number one driver. So, why is Lewis leaving Mercedes? Simple. He was vocal about what works and what doesn’t work with regards design and he ended up with a crap, uncompetitive car. Now they have a car that is winning, but it’s too late! I really hope that Ferrari produce the goods in 2025 and then Lewis can show Mercedes a clean pair of heels!
Intriguing - If Hamilton comes out smelling of roses in the second half, it seems it will have to be of his own doing, so that's going to be a strategic battle to watch. If he succeeds or comes whisper close, it should cement his greatness to this point in time. But hold on, there are interesting battles afoot, contenders, fast cars, ahhhhhhhh..... it's being a GREAT season!
