    I think every hospital and ambulance should have a flip chart (like the size of a piece of printer paper) of laminated paper with questions like "Are you allergic to anything?" "Do you need an interpreter?" "where does it hurt?" etc that had a dry erase marker on the front of the book so the Deaf or HoH person could write their answer if possible. It would be a start. Great Video :)

      L.A. G Our hospital has that. They are written in multiple languages and have symbols as well. The cards rate pain, show pain locations, types of pain, ask about interpreters, allergies, families, even ask if help is needed for those that may be brought in because of domestic or child abuse.

    What they did was so illegal. And yeah, you should get angry, that is justifiable and for your own safety. I am glad you filed a complaint. And it is just shameful how you were treated.

    You go girl ... !!! I'm losing my hearing and I'm becoming increasingly concerned for my safety ..... I'm going to contact our local police and find out if they have any training for law enforcement regarding deaf people .....

    That happened to me, too. And they said that cus I still voice well, they would make me speechread. but the staff most times never faced me for me ro soeech read. So, I kept bitching till they did. Then, on a different day, I had the director brought come out into the waiting room in front of everyone and said of what happened and of that they will provide and interpreter and that it is againat the law to not provide reasonable accomodations that they promise in their pamphlet that they will do. and I showed her one of the hospital's own pamphlets where it said they provide it for hearing impaired. So, she said ok. And I told her that she us to put it in my chart that interpreters are to be gotten. She said she would.

    That is such a scary situation and shocking that accessibility isn't available in even those important scenarios.
    Not sure why this video is filed under the "Comedy" category, it's a very serious issue.

    My parents got into a bad car accident a few years back, and my mom, who is deaf, had a broken arm and was transferred to a hospital, in ONLY A SLING. Not only that, but the hospital refused to give her an interpreter. It's so crazy how inconsiderate people are. Also, they sent her home in a taxi by herself.

      Yes.. Stupidest! Where you from? Miami and cities in Flordia .. Few deaf lawsuit did not recognized the American Disabilities Act law issues since 1990's

    Absolutely no excuse for any of that. Poor communication on the medical staff. Could end in death. Way to be proactive and try to educate people. Thumbs up.

    I too was in a car accident but back then I could hear things. I didn't get offically diagnosed with hearing loss until after the accident(i was 15) at the age of 16 was when i got my first set of HA. I am also 25(07/16/1991).

      Often if you had a car accident it wont be affections with your hearing loss. It is not because of car accident. Often it can be influence with birth or diseased before or after birth.. not car accident.

    I know this is in my future as I am Hoh, I realised immediately it would affect health care and access to health care whether sign was used or not. Quite a frightening prospect, your video only confirms these concerns, it's really quite shocking.

    An interpreter can help in this sort of situation. They are trained to work with oral deaf people too. They would be able to mouth more clearly for you or write the questions down, if that is what you want.

    People with D. N. R tattoos has been in the news here in the u.k. A guys 'wishes' were first ignored based it being a tattoo on his chest but then later they took it as form of consent and he died. Struck me as an issue oddly similar in its communication and miscommunication issues in a different form medically.

    I’m so sorry that happened. I know this isn’t nearly as bad, but I’ve had teachers deny giving me subtitles. I just wish hearing people understood the deaf community a little bit better.
    Also, NOOO YOU GAVE ME A SPOILER FOR SWITCHED AT BIRTH! 😂(jk)
    Anyways, I’m so sorry about this. I hope it never happens again.

    Not responding to a medical professional can be perceived as a form of rebellion. Deaf and hard of hearing people are not in rebellion. They can not respond correctly because they can’t hear what is being said to them.

    I think repetition is key. Keep repeating it until the person complies correctly.

  • @BUBBLEGUMGIRLONE
    @BUBBLEGUMGIRLONE 5 років тому

    I think I got it. People don’t comprehend you can not hear because you speak so well. Most hearing people associate hearing with speaking well. Hearing people think if you can hear you can speak and that’s not true. You could be able to speak well and not hear any thing at all

    Maybe if you told people you can speak but you can’t hear what they’re saying. I think they’re just not aware they don’t understand.

  • @BUBBLEGUMGIRLONE

    I know I kind of repeating myself but I think in this case repetition is good

  • @BUBBLEGUMGIRLONE
    @BUBBLEGUMGIRLONE 5 років тому

    I think when you tell someone you can’t hear they truly do not understand and comprehend what you’re saying because you can speak well. People think because you can speak that you can hear. People don’t understand. When I tell people I can’t walk they do not understand what that means They really don’t. I think you have to repeat constantly. explain it to them. Until they grasp what you’re saying.

  • @BUBBLEGUMGIRLONE
    @BUBBLEGUMGIRLONE 5 років тому

    I think people assume that you can hear because you speak well. People don’t realize that deaf people can speak as well as hearing people.

    • @Jesswithlessstress
      @Jesswithlessstress 5 років тому +1

      It's true that many hearing people are unaware that many deaf or HOH peolpe are capable of communicating orally, sometimes almost flawlessly.( I wasnt aware of this until recently after discovering Jessica Kellgren-Fozard and Rikki.)
      That being said, these health "professionals" appear to have been informed multiple times that their patient was not understanding them.. then went ahead and disregarded her simple suggestions to better communicate i.e. writing out what was being said.

    • @BUBBLEGUMGIRLONE
      @BUBBLEGUMGIRLONE 5 років тому

      Jessica Phelps Very good. I think repetition is key in this situation. People just don’t understand they don’t see the correlation. Spread the word they could save a life.

    his weed was probably laced with something else bc pro smokers don't do that and also when your stoned you drive slow ...

    • @andromedastar9774
      @andromedastar9774 6 років тому +1

      The reason weed smokers drive so slowly is because they have the reaction speed of a sloth. Driving slowly isn't generally a problem, but not being able to react according to the current traffic situation is - And if you think you're a better driver when you're high as a kite you need to rethink your values, because you aren't.
