I'm a big guy, with very large hands and arms, and I have this watch with the plain white dial and blue second hand. Don't be afraid to buy it if you have bigger wrists! The case is very thick and the bezel is pretty chunky, so on a leather NATO strap mine wears much larger than one would expect. Absolutely adore it.

As a 6” wrist haver, the 420 and 710 are brilliant. But the 960 / Neptune line are never mentioned for some reason, and those are even more friendly for small wrists. The lug to lug is only 39mm!! It’s literally just the circular case connecting right to the bracelet.
Thank you! Vostok - is the best! Respect from Russia! Many interesting technical solutions are used in this watch (if you are interested, see my review in Russian). Sometimes the quality is not the best. But it mostly refers to the build quality. For example, before using in water, it is sometimes necessary to check that the back cover is fully screwed on. At this price, there is no other fully manufactured watch with its glorious history and original designs on the world market!
Great review! You know, for a couple of weeks, it actually concerned me that I was so drawn to Vostok watches. That is, until I found out that many people feel the same way about their Vostoks. With two Komandirskies now in my collection, two days ago I finally ordered an Amphibia with the 420 style case, blue face.. just beautiful in the photo anyway. Now I am thinking ahead to a K-35 model. OH.. and for some reason, I continue to wear my original, first bought, Komandirskie basic model every day and night. I never have to reset the time, just wind it every day. One thing that is extremely hard to find, is a negative review on a Vostok watch. Anyway, keep up the great videos!!

Just got my first Vostok Scuba Dude 5days who and I have to admit it......I love the bloody thing! Already my Business Partner asked me what Watch was on my wrist! He may get one too now! 😜
I must say, it always impresses me how you come across in your videos. I can't tell how scripted or otherwise they are - your delivery is very natural and easy going. Some of the watch reviewers on UA-cam are way over the top or just difficult to enjoy. Even the watches I am not overly keen on, I still enjoy watching you review them.
I am loving your mods on this Vostok as well! Plain bezel does look great on the 420 case. I find the plain bezel looks a bit incomplete on some of the larger case designs.
I've not even received the parts for my current 090916M Vostok build and I'm planning the third one. It will be an early 1950s Fifty Fathoms homage. The plan is to use a 420660, bezel to take Seiko inserts, Dagaz black 45 insert, straight Komandirskie hour and minute hands, and a Miyota lumed arrow head seconds hand. To finish it off, either a Seamaster Tropic style or a Tropic Sport (big holes) style of band.
The reason being, I have the Zissou watch and he's based on Cousteau... who is synonymous with the Fifty Fathoms... and I'm in love with Vostok Amfibias.

these watches are made at the Swiss equipment and at a state-owned factory, watches under the Vostok brand can always be bought, but Commander and Amphibian are a gift gift, they were not bought before, I have the East made in the USSR for them for more than 30 years
The more I see it, the more I like that cushion case on that Vostok. Also that's a very nice bezel on the new one. Very sleek.
I can see you are walking towards the dark path of Vostok madness! I got two amphibia, one 100 case scubadude for myself and a 420 zissou for my wife, I modded both with aftermarket bezels (needless to mention the plethora of nato straps we rotate on both) then I got a vintage amphibia with a 119 case and after that I ordered four more vintage vostoks, two amphibia and two komandirskie... what can I say... Now I want a 710 case with aftermarket bezel of course! Eventually you will get a third one, I am sure!

I love the vostoks. I have 7 of them, and two on order. So many versions and configurations, and they're cheap too.
I saw other videos taking out the bezel with a special tool and covering the case with tape. Your way, with the butter knife and the cloath is just ingenious
seriously sir, really love those vostok. good job sir. :)
Done a similar set of mods to mine, applied a brushed finish to the top of the case, leaving the sides polished. Then taped up the top and sides of the smooth bezel and brushed the sloped rim. Makes it look a bit more interesting than the all high polished look! Alternating between this bezel and a de-chromed, brushed brass one now.

I've instantly cured my addiction to Vostok watches. It was simple ... I scratched myself on the awful end links and then checked the time (it runs about 1 1/2 minutes fast per day!). Voila, no addiction!

Funny you should say that ... I did an adjustment (my first ever) as you were typing. We'll see. It looks nice on a black / red silicone strap. It just needs to keep time now!
+Ming Damerciless good stuff! The little adjustment bar is pretty sensitive, it took me several tweaks but I got mine from - 40 to about +10 which is good enough. Cheers!

just to let you know: after discovering the Amphibia thanks to you (and after watching all your videos on them) I just purchased Amphibia 3 and 4 plus a whole bunch of bezels and other modding-material (hands, dials, datewheels, casebacks...), this is really getting out of hand but modding these is so much fun. I'm already preparing a DIY-dial for one of these...

This is how it starts, let me get myself a Vostok.....And by the time you even realize, you're collecting them because they're awesome and so much fun to play with them!!! Lol......For the next one, you should get a Komandirskie K-35!... Many times I was thinking of using that bezel, I think I will get one for the next!

Watching your Vostok videos inspired me to finally purchase one. Looking forward to getting it and doing a few mods to it. It must be coming by boat, a really slow one. Purchased today and delivery estimated at like a month or more out.
It looks like a watch you'd get at a theme park of sorts. That bezel really finishes off the look. I think the dials with the more outlandish designs are known to give off a novelty item look. Other than that, you've picked great bezels to go with your Vostoks.
I know what you mean about the dial. Could be a parachute, could be a funfair helium balloon!

The clean bezel on mine seems quite a bit bigger. I kindof like the spaceship weirdo look though. Wear it most days, love my Amphibian.

Hi Jody, I just started getting into watches a few months ago and your channel has been my #1 watch channel on UA-cam. I find your videos to be wonderful and your honest reviews have really helped me decide which watches I want to buy, and which ones to skip. That brings be to the Vostok. I've never heard of them until watching your channel, and because of your videos I ordered a Vostok 710059 Amphibian from Russia which I am very excited and eagerly waiting for. I'm not a rich man by and means so the affordable gems which you review and have introduced me to are just what I've been looking for. I've watched a couple of your videos on mods for these watches. I'd like to change the bezel and get a ceramic insert, but I'm a little unsure of what you are doing with these. You mentioned eBay, but are you simply buying a Seiko SKX bezel and insert? Is the SKX a direct fit replacement/upgrade for the Vostok? Or is there something else that I need to purchase to make it work? I know you are flooded with comments and questions, but I really hope you have time to reply to this and point me in the right direction.

How well is the movement performing now that you've had it a while? I really do like the combo of bezel/dial/strap you chose it scratches all the right itches, really increasing the vintage look and feel. What's up with the crown? It's hard to tell what the improvement is from the video other than looking a little cleaner.
You're already hooked on Vostok. I prefer the 420 case myself, just looks better to me.

Actually I ordered the ministry to combine with the blank bezel/leather nato and a matted 090 with a seiko-style insert a week or so ago. So somehow a mix of what you've done here...your third vostok should definately be a matted 090, I think these look amazing (090510 in my case, should be perfect with a bond-nato)

Have you tried the street drug version of Vostoks? Have you tried a vintage Amphibia that says made in CCCP on the bottom of the dial?

(Manchurian Candidate eyes & voice): am watch owner, only have 3 or 4teen Bostocks. *WILL BUY NO MORE*. LOL, These are crazy addictive to play with. I love your vids and I stopped at 2 Bostocks (so far), but will probably get a couple more that will be in a fairlly constant state of modification. One thing I love about them is that they still look fairly beefy on me, even though my wrist is 8.25". Watches with similar diameter and lug to lug dimensions usually look small on me, unless the watch in question is thicker in the case. I even have grown to love the quuirky stem. Once a person delves into the brand's backstory and the engineering solutions they developed, as opposed to just paying someone else licensing feesfor patented methods, it becomes difficult NOT to develop a soft spot for these. They do seem to be a polarizing design; I personally enjoy the heck out of mine!

I have a vostok that I bought used abouy 10 years ago, I will have to dust it off and see what I have. Why did you replace the crown? I think the one I have is sheet metal.

Out of curiosity, why do you change the crown? Is it for aesthetics or functionality (I’ve seen in other Vostok reviews that the crown can have a lot of play in it)?
It is for looks.
The replacement crown is stainless steel and not plated brass like the original, it minimises any chance of corrosion where the crown screws down on the case. Corrosion is unlikely but can happen if you don't take basic care of the watch or are just plain unlucky with the particular watch ⌚️

I’m really enjoying my Vostok. I have the same paratrooper except black leather band. I just ordered the blue dial Amphibia. I’m looking forward to modding it. For the money they are very nice watches.
Just got the 120 scuba dude in the mail today from Russia. Not bad, 3 weeks to get to the USA. I’m waiting on parts from Hong Kong, Russia and Germany now. Gonna make it into a Tudor Black Bay homage.

Why did you change the crown? The original one wasn't so bad.
This one is stainless steel, the old was was coated brass.
I wish my Vostok worked... I loved the look of it, but the Date function went Kaput and died on first day of use, couldn't even set the date! Didn't even wear it!

Doesn't it look/feel a bit too little for the watch, or just fine? To me, it feels like the strap should be 20mm!
That's the only thing that stops me from buying the 420. I already have a 110, and love it, despite its wierd straight lugs.

I love the bracelets too. So cheap they are great. Always get comments on it. They freak out when i tell them the price and features,especially the retaining ring on the back that gives easy str8 pressure. Face it,your $10,000 rolex seal is like the one on a jelly jar. Now whos high tech?
Mate! I actually put the stock bracelet on my 710 Scuba Dude and quite liked it. Pretty shiny though. Have you seen the new Komanderski? There is a small seconds, GMT model with 200m from Meranom for..... $78USD! Ridiculous.

After all the complaining i heard about bracelet, i went & found my old vostok bracelet. Had it sized & put on one of my vostoks. Man, i think those link pins are cogs from a Russian tank or something. Watch maker had to go find his larger pliers to pull it. But its heavy, but comfortable, & doesn't pull any hair, & I am a hairy guy, far better then my Seiko cases. Smooth to skins, the clasp is so tight when it clamps down, I have a hard time getting it unclasped to take off. I think Wonder woman could deflect bullets with this strap.
I think we could look at vostoks of certain models as awesome field watches.
