I always thought the AV8B plus retained the NavFLIR but got rid of the ARBS (Hughes Angle Rate Bombing System) and replaced it with the Radar? 6:53 the Flir is visible above the radome
What about Sea Harrier that debuted at Falkland war? They were totally distinct than first gen of Harrier, notably the bubble canopy and radar equiped nose. Are they categorized as Harrier II?
No the Harrier II moniker only applies to the AV-8B and the GR5/7/9 variants. The Sea Harrier is considered a separate variant and was covered in Weapon Detective's video on the first generation Harrier, released right before this video.
The AV8B Harrier II Plus is a beautiful vtol aircraft, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the useless f35.
Why would anyone compare a Harrier to a A-10? Typical jornalist nonsens? Yea a dedicated ground suport plane does the job better than one guild first and formost with very short takoff and landing in mind?
It was the people asking for close air support who compared the Harrier to the A-10. They found that they much preferred the A-10, which is not so much a knock on the Harrier, as it is on the policy makers who didn't provide an appropriate aircraft for the task. When you want to hear BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT and all you get is pppfffft, and your life is on the line, well, you're entitled to be critical.
@@scottstewart5784 Read an article that the brrrt part as an real efect is geting less and less relevant thogh since most targets are taken out by bombs and Maverics mostly by A-10. A Super Tucano probably beats a Harrier in a selected enviroment CAS. Anyway we are talking about a fringe aplication of CAS anyhow agist non peer oponents were loiter time/range is more important than performance (not that a A 10 beats a Harrier on that front (weapon load at least)handly too ,-) ). Find it telling that even genrals in irak rated the harrier quite good. yet you find someone naging. Well you cant deploy A-10 from Auault ships really sounds more like someone having a serious 1st world problem complaing and then comparing this 2 planes. And its a good thing that thease planes can operate from airbases that dont require tha harriers speacial traitsbecause if your enemy craters your frontline airfields enogh that teh harriers abiltys really shine your in deep ship anyhow.
The Harrier II doesn't have 6 (or 8 for the British version) hardpoints but 7 (or 9): the central fuselage point seems to always be forgotten 🤔 (and I've not mentionned the two points for the cannons).
King of all FOB-Aircraft. Just a matter of adjustment in Fuel, Combat range and ordnace to utilize its, FOB capabilities. And Marine is already Master to utilize the AV8B and its V/STOL technology.

@@ashtonmountford49 let's face it

Nice high quality video. My first memory for AV 8B was the movie True lies in 1994. Unforgettable childhood scene.

Useless, unless you’re in a Harrier getting gunned by an F-35.

The Harrier II - subject of this video - wasn't used in the Falklands skirmish. Those were first gen Harriers and SHARs.
Harrier, Dassault Rafale, Typhoon, F-15/16/18/22/35, A-10 why not just make one jet that can do everything these seem like dumb bets.
