I just came back to Canada after 2 years teaching in Vietnam ❤❤. I taught English to little kids all over Da Nang then University of Da Nang (VNUK) asked me to teach full time so I did double duty for a year (I only had a college degree in Travel & Tourism and the TESOL certificate, no previous teaching experience).

Take advantage of being an American, because if you go back to America after 5 or 10 years, your friends will have made exactly the same amount of money through investments as you did trading in your hours in Vietnam. This is what I learned after I returned to Canada from Taiwan. So much money was lost from not investing in stocks and real estate. Ten years in Taiwan: saved $120k. Five years in Canada while contributing to stocks: saved $500k. Of course, if you can make investments in Vietnam, if you do have citizenship, go for it

Agree. Pay should be based on skill not skin color. Some non-Vietnamese, or non- Viet kieu have very strong accents with no educational skill background.

Many of us are conditioned to follow a conventional life path: attend college, secure a well-paying job, buy a house, get married, and start a family. However, for the younger generation, owning a house, getting married, and having children are increasingly seen as commitments they may not wish to pursue.

So easy to move to Vietnam as a Viet Kieu… Everybody is like OMG THIS!!! OMG THAT!!! Forget it about it! It’s not that hard!!! These Viet Kieus with varying degrees of fluency can all speak Vietnamese. If you speak Vietnamese that alone is a H. U. G. E. advantage. The difficult part is the business landscape. Everybody wants to be an entrepreneur and an international business person… even Viet Kieus have lost big amounts of money in Vietnam. I am curious because I hear two versions: 1- Viet Kieus are seen as local Vietnamese and accepted as local Vietnamese. 2- Viet Kieus are not accepted as real Vietnanese and are also seen as foreigners.
If your Vietnamese, you could just reclaim your Vietnamese Citizenship and retire there no need to return. If you have money, then medicine and medical care are a lot cheaper. The treatment I got at FV was always great and cheap comparatively even though FV is probably the most expensive hospital in Vietnam.

Good luck moving to VIET NAM. There are lots to things in VIET NĂM you will experience that will build your character. 1. Very bad air pollution. 2. Food poisoning is the norm. 3. The water is polluted 4. Traffic is a nightmare. 5. Healthcare is very bad. Just go to any hospital and look for yourself. 6. When it rains, flooding everywhere and the water from the sewer smells very bad. 7 the noise pollution is very loud. There are more things, but you must experience them for yourself. Do not let these bad things STOP you from moving to VIET NAM. Best of luck.
So your place is heaven like the US? -The US homeless is endemic and everywhere. They camped and crapped everywhere. -Gun and mass shooting is the norm. -Legalized corruption is called campaign donation by special interest groups. -You got taxxed the crap in all possible way. -At the end of the day. you're still a yellow fella in white dominated corporate world. -The US is a declining hegemony. Your life will worsen due to worsening inflation. -And last but not least, you're being bombarded with propaganda every day in the US and are likely being brainwashed. Good luck living in the US. How you going to retire in Vietnam? Does Vietnam has retirement pensions/ social security from the governments when you reach your retirement age? What about nursing home? You must be lucky that you do not need to support your parents at all. Half of me is happy that you are happy and get to do what you want. The other half is wondering what other support systems are you not talking about? Are your parents of the few Vietnamese familes that are doing better than average.

Have you filed patent for the cordless mic?
Great story Chris. Resonated w me. If u near Saigon we should meet up sometime. Best wishes to u and urs!
So easy to move to Vietnam as a Viet Kieu…
Everybody is like OMG THIS!!!
I am curious because I hear two versions:
1- Viet Kieus are seen as local Vietnamese and accepted as local Vietnamese.
2- Viet Kieus are not accepted as real Vietnanese and are also seen as foreigners.
All Expats will have to come back home.
Those that do not have retirement money in place will have a Rude Awkening .
Yes, they need to generate some kind of a pension or 401 K for their future and work in the US long enough to have enough points for Medicare Social Security if they don’t have a pension.
As some have say, "Expats are Losers back home".
Only people that can be Expats are Retierees with a nest egg or Talents with marketable business value host city needed, not hourly workers or the long shot Influencers.
@@curiositytalk The “system” don’t walk off the path. You might get lost…. Or you might just find something better.
Exactly what we as a couple talked about.. as fun and amusing as it is for the young ones to explore and see the world and have hustles after hustles to earn money, if they have no retirement plans then it will be a story of, should have, could have, would have.

Most economists see the SE Asia area to be the next biggest economic hub. It makes sense to move there now for the entrepreneur.

Plan to retire and live in Vietnam/Thailand/Laos for couple years and budget around $5K a month, is it enough to live comfortably?
You can live like a king with 5K monthly
U can't be serious? $5k is what people make in yr in southeast Asia.

Dude .. San Bernardino is belonging to San Bernardino county .. NOT LA (Los Angeles)
I live in San Jose, but when I talked to people outside the US I told them I live in SF Bay Area so they know where SF is the same for this dude.
He said San Fernando Valley - Glendale, Burbank, North Hollywood, Encino) in the 818 area code by the 5 & 170 freeway, not San Bernardino . You know, the area where the term Valley Girl was originated from back in the 80s.
@@skysailing4355 He's speaking English for the interview, he's speaking to the people in the State, not outside. San Jose and SF Bay Area are very much the same or equivalence of living characteristics ... San Bernardino vs LA are totally different ... San Bernardino ranked top 10 worse county/city in US.... not sure have you ever been in San Bernardino? .. super ghettos place .. If anyone can't afford a house in San Bernardino ... They most likely don't afford to buy a house anywhere else ...

Yes, I think this is the husband of Amanda.

Tattoo in Vietnam is a lot of cheaper. I want move there to get another layer of tattoo. Wait for me please
No promises 🤧
you don't know how good the quality of ink is. you're injecting stuff you don't know into your body.
You know i and a lot of people look down on people with tattoos right? You might want to hold out on that, most people with tattoos are prison inmates, they make less than 50k a year, on and on, sure there are some that will make more but most will make less for sure, i dont give people job if they got tattoos, the homeless that come to me beg me for money i look at them first, and if i see them with tattoos, u know the answer right?

Good luck moving to VIET NAM.
There are lots to things in VIET NĂM you will experience that will build your character.
1. Very bad air pollution.
2. Food poisoning is the norm.
3. The water is polluted

You must be lucky that you do not need to support your parents at all. Half of me is happy that you are happy and get to do what you want. The other half is wondering what other support systems are you not talking about? Are your parents of the few Vietnamese familes that are doing better than average.
What if we both are and chose not to talk about it?
Lesson: Chase your dreams in far flung places when your parents are still relatively young and healthy. Having money or not, they will probably need to closer at old age.
